UFC 2009: Undisupted Gets Midnight Launch At GameStop

While it's certainly true that the sport known as Ultimate Fighting has become far more popular in recent years, has it become big enough to warrant a midnight launch for the latest video game based on the octagon?

Apparently, it has. According to Gaming Front, GameStop has announced that it will begin selling UFC 2009: Undisputed at 12:00 a.m. on May 19, and there is an incentive for showing up at that time tonight. Along with the game, you'll receive special unlock codes for Ryan Bader and Efrain Excudero; if you don't go to the midnight launch event, you'll have to wait 90 days. Both characters will be made playable via downloadable content at that time. But if you don't feel like going to GameStop, you can always stop over at Best Buy, which will give you a free UFC DVD, a $10 Best Buy gift card, and a $10 voucher for a UFC purchase on Pay-Per-View. Not bad! Of course, we have to remind you that not all GameStops participate in these midnight launches, so we strongly suggest calling your local store before making any late-night plans. We know for a fact that Madden NFL 10 will most certainly get the same treatment (it does every year), but we're a little surprised to see midnight launch madness for Undisputed. Not to take anything away from the game - it has great potential - but we just didn't expect there to be so many ardent fans awaiting UFC's release.

But hey, it's good press and good exposure. This is supposed to be the best UFC-based title yet, and if you want a shot at it, why not pick it up early? You're not doing anything at midnight tonight, right?

I hope it doesn't have that kind of repetition in the game. If it's a true MMA game, it should have more than just punching and kicking.

There is a lot to do in the demo so I don't really think it is that repetitive. There are a ton of submissions you can do as well as knockouts.

That is weird that Gamestop is having a midnight launch for UFC: Undisputed. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually kind of excited to play this game and have it at the top of my Gamefly queue right now, but Gamestop didn't even have a midnight launch for Killzone 2 (at least at my local NYC location) and that was unequivocally a more anticipated title. Anyway, I'm hoping for the best from this brawler and definitely looking forward to Fight Night Round 4.

i wonder what makes them give any one game a midnight launch? is it how anticipated it is? halo wars got a midnight launch and i don't think that should have gotten one. it's an RTS has any other ones gotten a midnight launch? so really good games in the past have not gotten anything.(can't think of any right now but i think you know the ones)

That's a good question.. how does GameStop determine which games get midnight launches? Maybe the publishers pay GameStop as a way of advertising? I have no idea.
