It's Sony's E3 To Lose
We're not stepping onto a soapbox to confirm any rumors or even to add more weight to said rumors. We're merely making an observation: at this point, it really seems like Sony should absolutely dominate E3 2009.
Of course, we specifically keep an eye on Sony-related rumors and news for the upcoming show, but as we're gamers first and foremost, we're interested in all major occurrences at E3. Therefore, we've been looking towards Microsoft and Nintendo to see what they may have planned; what kind of bombshells they may be planning to drop. ...for whatever reason - and trust us, we've looked - we really can't seem to find much. While on the flip side, we're currently examining a whole horde of PlayStation-oriented rumors, many of which would be downright gigantic if they came true in a few weeks time. A PlayStation 3 price cut alone might trump anything the competition brings to the table, but there's also the possibility of a redesigned PS3 and a new PSP (the PSP Go! is a much talked-about name now), along with potentially immense software announcements. We're still waiting to see Team ICO's project, and there's a good chance Hideo Kojima is going to show off whatever he's working on. And let's not forget about the very high probability of a new Twisted Metal and the admittedly slim chance we'll hear about Kingdom Hearts 3.
Really, at this point, it's Sony's show to lose. The only way they come up short behind the competition is if all of the previously mentioned items fail to appear at the show. Besides, you have to give the edge to Sony heading into the show to begin with; we've already seen Killzone 2 this year and the rest of 2009 has several other huge exclusives (inFamous, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, MAG, Heavy Rain, etc.). Normally, we don't like to say "so-and so 'won' E3," but let's face it: this is a competition, and it always has been. We should at least own up to facts, as unflattering as they may be. And at this point, Sony is absolutely in the driver's seat...let's just hope they don't drive off a cliff.

here comes xbox 720 :O
i hope ms actually puts some effort into this system...
but an announcement of a 8th gen console so close to the start of 7gen seems like a pre-emptive strike aimed at ending the war they started and are losing at. because think about it... 8gen introduction will put sony on high alert, forcing them to compete (if the new xbox happens to be superior to the ps3) and forcing the end of 7gen war pre-mature...
sure the decade lifespan rule still stands... but support may be drafted away from the ps3 to focus on the playstation 4. which i think would be sad, because the ps3 has so much potential, and dev's might not feel a need 2 push last gen software.. but i could be wrong

SCEA has got to put on a show, a grand one, where they're supported big time by SCEE and SCEJ.
Sometimes SCEJ likes to hold off so that they can have things to unveil at TGS....
So yes, I hope we see Team ICO's new game. I can almost smell Gran Turismo 5 shocking the hell out of E3
Sony will punch the competition madly! MADLY I TELL YOU!

Kojima's new project will be unveiled, but something tells me it will head to 360 for sure. i've been reading all over the net that he is going to continue teasing all the way up until Microsoft's press announcement.
seriously hoping to see some RPGs for PS3. valkyria has been holding me over but i need more.
FF7 REMAKE ANYONE!? (J/K i can only dream)
SONY better have something truly Epic that we haven't heard of before. the ball is in their court, what they do with it is up to them.
they have been lagging behind this entire generation and to be honest it's tiring to see them play catch up.
here's to what will (hopefully be a truly Epic E3/SONY Comeback) and if not, well we'll see how much longer i stick with supporting them

im sure they will be able to shave it down.
either way, it's microsoft, they are a software company 1st, their hardware is shit, so it'll just break anyway. where as sony is vice versa (with the exception of the crazy Lineup coming)
i mean SONY already has promised it to be their biggest E3 Ever so i am just gonna sit back and wait for the news to come rolling in
im sure they have something that no one is expecting, im not even gonna speculate on anything they may have lined up.
C'mon SONY we the Fans are waiting for ya

No, Sony doesn't OWN Blu-Ray (alone, at least)...they kinda developed it w/ Pioneer and a consortium of them and several other companies got together to finalize the spec. So yeah, they get a royalty cut, but are not the sole royalty collector. HD-DVD was kind of an off-shoot when Toshiba and others decided BD was too expensive and wanted a cheaper option...M$ was one of the companies that joined Toshiba in the 'revolt.'

HD-DVD was Toshiba's baby the whole way, they owned it completely, with the exception of those parts that were purely DVD. Sony doesn't, and never has, owned BluRay - any more than Pioneer has. The BluRay consortium owns BluRay and is made up from all the CE companies with the exception of Toshiba. Toshiba were invited several times, but wanted to impose their own constraints on BluRay, the other consortium members declined to agree with Toshiba's demands.
Microsoft partnered with Toshiba to develop the software for HD-DVD, and NEC did some of the chip work and other technology.
People always criticize Sony and bitch about them owning BluRay when the simple truth of the matter is that Sony never has owned BluRay, and BluRay is very far from being a proprietary Sony technology. Unlike HD-DVD which is almost the definition of proprietary, especially when you consider that there was only ever one tier one manufacturer of HD-DVD - Toshiba themselves. The fact that Sony got unfairly and wrongly criticized over the supposedly proprietary BluRay (that Sony apparently 'own' and forced down everyone's throats)was one of the key indicators of media bias. It sometimes seems that the tech media in the US has signed a deal with Microsoft and no longer report fact. Instead they appear to report distortion and FUD at the behest of Microsoft.
Microsoft may wish that they'd been a little more open to BluRay way back, because there's no way they can produce a BluRay drive for the 360 without it being a huge climb-down. However there really have no incentive to do so. No 360 game could ever be done on BluRay simply because there are already 20-odd million working 360s without BluRay. It would make no sense for any publisher to put a 360 game on a BluRay. So BluRay for the 360 is limited to movies, in which case folks should go out and buy a stand alone BluRay player or for a better bang for their buck, a PS3.
BluRay was a stroke of genius, and a brave decision, it will pay off long term for Sony - Just as the PS3 will pay off big time in the long run.

First sentence from wikipedia: Blu-ray Disc (also known as Blu-ray or BD) is an optical disc storage medium designed by Sony to supersede the standard DVD format.
more down the page:
Sony started two projects applying the new diodes: UDO (Ultra Density Optical) and DVR Blue (together with Pioneer), a format of rewritable discs which would eventually become Blu-ray Disc (more specifically, BD-RE).[8] The core technologies of the formats are essentially similar.
clearly sony has some ownership over bluray, or at the very least, played the most important role in the invention of the bluray disk..

Have a look at the list of consortium members, check the ownership on the BluRay rights, and have a look at Pioneer's technology portfolio.
Sony starts a lot of blue-sky (no pun intended) technology projects. Wikipedia is both right and wrong.
If you want to start dueling with quotes try this one;
"Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson)."
...that's from the BDA. Too biased a source? OK, try this;
"Sony started two projects applying the new diodes: UDO (Ultra Density Optical) and DVR Blue (together with Pioneer), a format of rewritable discs which would eventually become Blu-ray Disc (more specifically, BD-RE).[8] The core technologies of the formats are essentially similar."
Did you note the bit about Pioneer? Which is precisely what I said is it not?
Alright "On February 19, 2002, the project was officially announced as Blu-ray,[11][12] and the Blu-ray Disc Founders was founded by the nine initial members."
That's Feb 2002, when was the first BluRay player launched? Oh, yes, June 2006, more than four years of intensive product and technology development later.
Even then the original BluRay players - including the PS3 were at the absolute bleeding edge. The Blue laser diodes were getting very low yields in production and cost over $100 a piece. Had Microsoft not jumped the gun with the 360, the difficulties in development of the technology should have kept BluRay from the market until 2007 when diode manufacturing began to normalize.
Oh, sure Sony has some key patents on parts of BluRay, so does Pioneer, and so do a few others. But that is not the same as owning BluRay.
So, please let's not get into the Sony owns BluRay argument, or anything else along those lines. I've been through just about every variation of the discussion and argument on forums all over the Net, and I really don't feel like rehashing it all more than a year after the death of HD-DVD.

I think for Sony to win...they have to announce 2-3 new IPs, release dates for games like MAG, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2, WKC, Demon's Souls, etc; and maybe something like firmware expansions or new hardware.
They do that and that'll crush Nintendo and surpass M$.

While I would love Sony to dominate this year and completely put Microsoft to shame, I'm not gonna count my chickens before they hatch. If they announced a European video store that would launch there and then (similar to last years E3(?) with USA), and firmware update with cross-game chat/invites & for it to be mandatory for devs to include in-game personal music (to silence the complainers), that would be great.
They also need to announce something (like Microsoft did last year with FFXIII) that no-one will see coming and for it to affect ALL PS3 owners not just one or two continents. I have both consoles and apart from Alan Wake (if its coming to 360) I can't really think of any other big "exclusive" coming out for the 360 that I want. PS3 wise there's numerous (Unchartered 2, inFamous, Heavy Rain, Fat Princess, God Of War 3).
Here's hoping that Sony are going to put on a good show :)

PS3 Exclusives
God of War 3
Uncharted 2
Gran Turismo 5
Heavy Rain
Infamous
ICO 3
FF Versus XIII
Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time
Rockstar's unannounced IP
Possible price cut
Possible new PS3 hardware
Possible PS3 remote (Wii ripoff)
360 Esclusives
Halo ODST (an expansion... sigh)
Alan Wake (a lousy Bourne ripoff)
Mass Effect 2 (the only good thing that's also on PC, getting that version)
Motion Camera (PS2 did it first, no one will care)
Tally:
11 good PS3 exclusives
2 good 360 exclusives
Okay, so looking at the stats, PS3 will still be on top even if M$ port MGS4, half the price of a 360 and abolish all RRoD problems out of present and future 360s.
AND 360 would have to steal 6 PS3 exclusives just to play catchup. Good luck to them!!

Nintendo I think could have something neat but like people say its only for "children and soccer moms" Oh wait if another zelda comes out i guess all the guys I know love zelda what would they be called. Honestly i do take offense to the "soccer mom" comment due to thats not a demographic it's woman and younger audiences thank you very much.

I would like to see;
1] Release dates for the top exclusives mentioned above (maybe more information on games having the ability to be played in true 3D - as shown in the GT5 3D demo earlier this year)
2] World Wide Video Download Store (Europeans will be happy)
3] Further enhancements to PS3 functionality through better Firmware updates - like updated 3D music visualisers, updates to PS Life; and a better idea of what HOME will morph into in the future
4] PS3 Price Cut announcement would be earth shuttering!!!
Not concerned about;
1] Backward compatibility being brought back
2] The new look PS3 does not look appealing, so not caring much about a PS3 slim
3] Don't care about the Wii mote ripoff

I'm putting my money on Sony and PS3 this year. Too much momentum going for them, and a price drop would be epic even if they don't need it (which arguably they don't).

I couldn`t agree more. They should stopp stealing and throw money at developers and make games "timed exlusives...man, that`s annoyning! Instead of steeling and thoss money at developers, they could make some games themselfs.
And yeah. I`m looking forward to what Sony has to show at E3. Just give me a GRAN TURISM date this year, and I`ll be VERY happy :P
I will most likely logg on to Home when E3 starts. Home is getting better and better now :)

Microsoft is really destroying this generation for me. And here's why:
1. Their first party developers are practically nonexistent, so they try shove Halo and their 5hr "rpg" series down our throats (Fable)
2. They pay off 3rd party developers to make exclusives for them, timed exclusivity and even demos!
3. Developers purposely rush out unfinished games and call it "DLC."
4. The 360's limited media storage (DVD) forces 3rd party developers to dumb everything down to make both platforms "equal"
5. Developers are not taking advantage of blu ray. Why should I pay for DLC? They have 50gbs of space to work with, why should I have to pay for something that should have been in the disc to begin with?
6. They keep stealing all my RPGs. We all know that rpgs don't usually fare well on the 360 but yet Microsoft goes through hoops an hurdles, cockblocks Sony and keeps the rpgs off our hands.
7. Due to Microsoft's monopolistic, greedy, and unethical business practices I have been forced to boycott several developers that I used to faithfully support. Which are; Namco, Capcom, and Square Enix
I might just give up gaming for a while thanks to MIcrosoft, I don't see them going away anytime soon =(

Namco should get some love again, they are supporting the PSPo well, and they have already produced Eternal Sonata on PS3 with enhancements and now Tales is coming our way too, again with enhancements over and above the original version. CapCom is moving in the PS3s direction and have already noted that the PS3 will account for more unit sales of Capcom products in the coming year than either 360 or Wii. Some publishers are getting the message and changing their ways. Plus those exclusivity deals are reaching the end of their life, and there is no real business justification to renew the deal or continue the practice. SquEnix is hamstrung by their far more recent deal with Bill. It's their own fault though.

I think Kojima is working on Snatcher, hence the S at the teaser site, not MGS5.
And yeah, most likely Kojima`s next game will be for PS3 and Xbox360, since Kojima has been saying that he wants to attract to western gamers.

Not sure about Nintendo at all, they already shipped the updated DS, and I don;t believe that the Wii is due for a refresh yet. The've kind of exhausted the alternate control scheme genre, unless they have a new wearable controller. But somehow I don't see Nintendo going down the line of wearable controllers with force feedback. That said, Nintendo has been quiet for a long time as well. Still I don;t see what they have that they can crow about, unless there are a pile of Mario/Zelda/Metroid games we don't know about.
It's definitely Sony's E3 to loose, but the longer this year goes on, the more it feels like Sony will play it's hand how it wishes, and everyone else can deal with it.

Also, the past few E3's, Microsoft has largely based their shows on stolen exclusives (GTA, FF13). What will they do next year? If MGS goes multiplatform, there won't be anything left to steal!
