Huge Unofficial Reveal: Project Trico Screenshots, HD Trailer!

Ho-ly...GOD. We always knew we'd be enthusiastic when we finally saw Team ICO's new PlayStation 3 exclusive project, but we could never have guessed just how excited we'd be based on the first batch of screenshots and a high-definition trailer.

Well, thanks to PlayStation Lifestyle, the game called Project Trico has rocketed to the top of our most anticipated list. It's possible that God of War III and Final Fantasy XIII might still be a little ahead of it, but the fact that Trico is instantly in our new Top 5 should tell you something. First, go ahead and view the screenshots, which are impressive enough in their own right. But it's only a taste; the true appeal lies in the teaser trailer, which is nearly four minutes in length and makes us drool. Designer Fumito Ueda hinted that this new game would be a little closer to ICO than Shadow of the Colossus, but fans of the latter will quickly notice one particular element of SotC in this early look at Trico. The scary part? The source says this is from an "early build," and if that's the case, what the hell with the final product look like?! Jeebus! We're envisioning a game like ICO, with puzzles and platforming aspects that are related to your colossal (pun intended) friend clearly seen in the video. We didn't really think something so giant could be cute, but...

This may be a little anti-climactic if you were expecting the official unveiling at E3, which may still happen. But who's really going to complain after viewing this media? Project Trico will...be...excellent. By the way, just in case this is all one big giant hoax, and because we don't have an official press release in our inbox, we can't really call this verified "truth" just yet.

now i know i havnt played either ICO or sotc.

but i reaaaaaaaally dont understand what the commotion about this trico is.

i just watched the trailer, and ALL the hype around the BIG unveiling of this game, im dissapointed.

that big thing looks lame.
i hope it gets better then that, or i wont bother checkin it out.

You need to play ICO or at least SotC to be able to understand what all the fuss is about. Those games are something else, totally off the chain and judging from this trailer, Trico project is aiming to blend those past games. AWESOME, really AWESOME! cant be more excited.

If it is anything like the Nico Trailer, You may want to hold your breath on that. SotC turned out to look levels better than its "Nico" trailer.

I'm Sure this is from a early build as well. This game will be beautiful, there is no doubt.

The first game was Ico, the project name for the second game was Nico ("Ni" in japanese is the number 2) and the project title for the third game is Trico ("tri" a preffix for the number 3).

Its just a placeholder during development and not a trick-o. Name will hopefully be released at e3.

This game could have the shittiest looking characters of this generation for all I care. As long as it makes me feel like SotC did, I will be 100% satisfied. (I missed out on Ico, but I'm going to try my damnedest to get my hands on it this summer.)

I'm a little confused why after all this wait they would release a video that is supposedly a year or longer old. I'm sure the final product will be amazing but the graphics looked very outdated. I'm buying this game on day one regardless. ICO and SOTC offer some of the best gameplay ever.

My guess, if I may venture one, is that either A: they didn't want to release this footage, it just leaked and an internet publication got hold of it, or B: They have gameplay footage or a trailer that will blow this one away. They're saving the new stuff for E3, and the one we just saw is specifically meant to build up hype and anticipation.

A trailer two weeks before E3 will definitely build hype. It's actually a very good thing for the game, intentional or not. We've been getting rumors and speculation for the past month regarding hardware and software on all three consoles.... Then BAM! An honest-to-goodness trailer, no beating around the bush. Just giving their fans the goods.

That trailer made me a little teary-eyed. I've been waiting for this game for so long and what I just saw looked amazing. The emotional relationship-element from ICO combined with the incredible level-designs from SotC? It cannot go wrong! I'm also a sucker for giant cute beasts, if the creature dies in this game I'm going to cry for days, lol.

Seriously, the way that thing ran out of the tunnel and had to slide to a stop reminded me of my dog, he can't get good traction on the hardwood and slides everywhere. It looks like one of those videogame characters that would be easy to get attached to. Don't kill the little guy, Team Ico!

Exactly, it reminded me of some type of pet, and the relationship between the boy and the beast seemed so real and loving, haha. It's ridiculous how I can be so sappy about a character in a videogame, but I guess that's why I love Team ICO :)

I haven't watched it yet, I watched like 20 seconds of that youtube trailer from the link above and couldn't stand it anymore lol It looks terrible and damn I hate youtube. I'll check gamersyde to see if there is a trailer up on there. Wanna make sure that I watch this in hd the way it was meant to.

After watching it again i felt kinda sad :( you see how the monster gets stabbed by a ton of arrows and how it seemed weak afterward, like it's going to die soon :( i think I'm going to cry while playing this game, it was such an emotional video, incredible..

Wow, I don't know what it is, but you feel something special when you watch that trailer.

That might not even resemble the gameplay and could just be cut scenes, but it looks/feels so different from everything else out there.

The people that don't get what the fuss is all about are the same people that can't appreciate something like Flower, and want in your face action all the time, and have no sensitivity for creativity.

As much as I love shooting and killing things, we need more games like this.

1st off, Ben...how can this not etch out FFXIII or GoW3?! this looks an incredible amount better than anything ive ever seen!

well, WKC has been knocked off my number 1 most wanted spot.

That trailer is the 1st this gen to bring tears to my eyes.

True - there is not much of the gameplay shown, but Team ICO are two for two with there games. The fact that fans are so excited over the trailer is a testament to how there games have resonated with fans.

The game is virtually guaranteed to be an original, moving, engaging experience, which is rare in a sea of CODs and Guitar Heroes.

@Beamboom I find it funny you would comment trying to question peoples excitement if you have no interest in some "cut-scene"? If you played ICO or Sotc on the PS2 you would know. Just about every informed PS3 owner and follower of PSXExtreme has been waiting for an announcement for the next Team ICO game. My guess is you don't own a PS3!

Fair enough. Theirs been a lot of haters out since this story broke. I couldn't tell if you were being honest or blowing smoke. Sorry,my bad. If you want a good idea how good this game could turn out you should check out Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2. ICO was good to, but SotC was a little more epic in my opinion. Then you can find out first hand why people are so excited.

SOTC is one of my favorite games, but I have never played ICO. I just located a copy less than 3 miles from work at a gamestop for $20. They open at 10 so I have a little over an hour to wait to confirm they have it in house and pick it up. Is that a good price? If this game is anything like SOTC, I need no reply...

I'm really intrigued by this game / developer now, people seem to really like it. It reminds me of the atmosphere in FFX, a very emotional experience. Can these games be compared to FF?

Also on the whole is this cgi or cutscene thing, the old SoTC game and I think Ico, the cutscenes were their scenes, just like MGS is, so if they follow suit with what they've always done, then this isn't cgi it's actual in-game graphics..

a really nice feature to have would be the growth of your companion. Its obviously a large gryphon-type animal, but you can tell from the underdeveloped wings its fairly young.

I would love it if throughout the game it grows up, gets tougher, bigger, and starts to fly. just the development of the animal opens up an enormous array of possibilities, and i would actually be a little disappointed if team ICO didn't take advantage of that

For all of you out there who doubt Team Ico, try and play at least one of their games, after you're a virgin no longer, you will understand why everyone else is so fired up.
About the graphics, they always go for atmosphere, art style, emotional connection and spot on controls. That said, if its a year old it might look even better than this spectacular trailer.

Long time PsxExtreme reader, first time poster. I felt this game was worth the praise to actually join a sight and leave a comment...face it, other sight have just been horrible lately with comments. Anyway, Project Trico is the one gaming project I have been waiting for. I felt my haert stop for a second when I read the heading of this article. Ico and SotC are my two favorite games of all time. I think the most appropriate words at this moment are: OMG OMG OMG!

Have you ever played a Team Ico game before? This is a 1 /12 old trailer, not even the final build.
If you played Ico or SOTC you would know better then worry about the camera...

But what's up with making a cartoon kid & that cat/fox/octapus beaked/twig winged/opposum tailed looking thingie.

If that's supposed to be a Griffin, I just don't get how they could be so mistaken, cause here's what Griffin's ARE supposed to look like..
