FFXIII Won't Make It This Fiscal Year?

It won't come as good news to role-playing fans, but at this rate, Square-Enix has a ways to go to re-earn a lot of lost respect, anyway.

According to FinalFantasyUnion, it seems the veteran RPG publisher isn't even willing to outright confirm Final Fantasy XIII for release this fiscal year. In a recent meeting with the Japanese press, Square-Enix received questions concerning both FFXIII amd Dragon Quest IX, and when asked if FFXIII would definitely release "within this fiscal year," the answer given was:

"God knows. ... Is the truth (laughs). I'll try!"

...that isn't funny. But then again, perhaps we're just reading too much into a simple, lighthearted statement that may not mean anything. The one-hour demo that just released with the Blu-Ray edition of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" said FFXIII would launch in Japan in "Winter 2009," and that's still the official word on the matter. So take heart. But really, remarks like this only make us think that another delay may be looming around the corner, and that would really suck for North American gamers, who still have to wait through the localization process.

Oh well, let's just be optimistic and stick with the previously revealed "Winter 2009" thing.

Seriously, as you say, the longer it drags on the less interested I become. I'm getting the feeling that Square Enix is in the process of laying a giant turd. Hopefully the ever longer timescale means someone has realized that and is trying desperately clean up the mess prior to release.

Think about it. If this game was a giant turd waiting to be dropped, why would PS3 sells shoot up to #1 in Japan. Its not because the 1 hour demo sux.

I'm pretty sure it was after. And even if it wasn't and sales started to rise B4 FF13 demo came out...SO WHAT??? U never seen some1 buy a system B4 the game they want to play comes out??

2.5 months straight #1...what came out? FF13 demo. Give credit where its due.

To be honest... When the people that are in charge of the game, and everything it is to be start saying illogical and just plain stupid things that have been coming out of SE in the past year.

Is it really so hard to believe people start to look away and lose respect. After all this time in development, When asked what they project it to be finished and released... They say "God only knows."... That really does not install confidence as a buyer.

True, on a technical point of view, the HD graphics in 2006 wow everyone, but though those were just mediocre compared with what's coming out this year. Unless they constantly improve upon the graphics on FF, when FFXIII comes out in 2011, it'll just be 2008 standard game.

MGS4 was an amazing game, but if you release it in 2011, your reaction would be like "that's cool" instead of a "OMG!!" in 2008. Same goes for FFXIII. The longer they wait, the harder it is for that game to set the bar higher. Everyone would've moved on and it won't have THAT impact.

This was one of the titles that I thought I just had to have when I bought my PS3 in 2007. It even influenced the purchase, but so
many great games are coming that I wouldn't miss this if it never shows up. I would still play it though, if it gets it here soon.

No matter the length, after having played the demo myself, this will no matter what always be a first-day purchase for me, it was that good. Also I think I know why it's taking so long, you know how everyone is saying the 360 is gonna be replaced by a new console in a couple years. Well then wtf are they even putting FF13 on there it it'll only be like a year before a new console, I think maybe they're putting FF13 on the xbox 720(w/e) instead and if not, then that means the crappy 360 will indeed be around much longer then we anticipate.....hmm

I can see that happening cuz now xbox really don't have games...perhaps they are preparing to release the 720 in 2011 with the new Halo, Gears of War 3 ,Alan Wait and FFXIII .

M$ needs a new strategy for the 360. Instead of buying timed exclusives and exclusive DLC, they should really invest in first party studios. That way they can actually offer exclusive games and new IP's, instead there strategy is just smoke and mirrors. I think they're actually short changing there own fans with there policy.

Well I'll always get Final Fantasy but they sure like to piss off the fans. Lets do the FFXIII rundown now shall we:

Action: Multiplat announcement flies in the face of months of "Exclusively on PS3" claim.

Result: Fans rage, boycott, and reach their limit breaks. 360 owners gloat.

Action: SE announces that the FFXIII release on PS3 will be held back until the port is complete, which will be done after the game is boxed and ready to go. 360 owners laugh.

Result: Fans rage more, boycott, and reach their second level limit breaks.

Action: SE accounces there will be no delay because the 360 port will be made alongside the PS3 version, making an oxymoronic statement because this doubles the work load anyway.

Result: Even more fans rage, boycott, and reach 3rd level limit breaks. 360 owners don't care.

Action: Idiot makes moronic statement that it might not even make this fiscal year

Result: *facepalm*

I'm sorry can I please compare Hideo Kojima with the developers of FFXIII right now?

Hideo Kojima apologized that MGS 4 didn't make it in the end of 2007 and said he was "embarrassed" when this guy is just LAUGHING LIKE THERE'S NO PROBLEM AT ALL. Oh give it another 10 years...don't worry - we really won't care at all.

did anyone know about this but,

microsoft paid square enix to release final fantasy 13 on ps3 and 360 on the same day in north america even though the ps3 version will be complete first

but they agreed that final fantasy 13 would be exclusive in japan for ps3

because thats what MS has always done. they dont win by making better products, or talking up their own products. they win by paying people off and paying developers to withhold content from their competitors. they distort the market place. I blame MS for playing dirty and unethical and i blame Square along with every other dev thats taken MS dirty money.

The Wii is actually a good platform for DragonQuest. Usually DragonQuest titles arent very demanding games graphically. i was actually excited to get a real DragonQuest game on the Wii considering that last one(DragonQuest Swords) blew chunks.

Normally if this was any other generation. Going with a console that had the numbers the Wii has would be a good move. But this is the Wii, and this is DQ. It will undoubtedly sell well in Japan. But in other places, where DQ is no where near as popular, on a system that is notorious for third party games selling poorly.

The vast majority of people that own Wii's are not the DQ playing type.

If there was a bet which would be out first... FFXIII or DNF... I'd go with DNF!

After playing Final Fantasy XI for 5 years, it's easy to watch how slowly and foolishly they do things. Granted, it's an MMO vs a console game, but both are software creations of their own developers. Who knows what complications they will run into with the 360, minus the obvious disc space issues.

Personally, I'm just hoping that whatever century FFXIII comes out in, that it's stable and works... That it doesn't require 10,000 updates to make it work as intended.

Oh boy here we go. Square Enix is notorious for delays. If they are already hinting at the delay of the release in Japan, that means we are not going to see it for quite some time.

Everyone complains so much, yet we all know that we will buy it no matter what in the end! However, I'm way more interested in Final fantasy versus 13. FFV13 looks way cooler and attrative than ff13 will ever be. Plus its PS3 exclusive. SE sure draws lots of critism but everyone got to admit they sure do hell knows how to make great games. This is comming from a Ninty and ps fan. Xshit lag 360 can go to hell for all I care at least they are not getting ffv13!!! I don't have anything against M$ except their Xbox and unethical\unmoral business tactics stealing exclusives is what I call it.

I'm glad to see a gamemaker take their time and not rush their game out the door. With all of the sweet PS3 games coming out to keep me busy...I can wait
