Zombie Apocalypse Detailed For PSN

Zombies are enjoying a definite resurgence in the video game world these days, thanks mostly to a few highly entertaining downloadable titles. Resident Evil 5 helps, of course, but the zombie is now a big star on the PSN.

You may have recently enjoyed the likes of Burn Zombie Burn! and if so, we've got good news: another zombie-scorcher of sorts is on the way next month, and it's called Zombie Apocalypse. It has been officially revealed and detailed over at the PlayStation Blog, and as you can see, there's plenty to be excited about. Here's one important part of the post by Nihilistic designer John Slavin:

"Zombie Apocalypse is pure and gory wish fulfillment. We wanted to strip off the woes of increasingly complex modern mega-games, and retreat back into the world of dank arcades and late-night movie rentals that was our childhood in the 80’s and 90’s. This was not a game in search of a hook, beyond perhaps one to skewer a zombie on. Our goal was to produce a pure arcade shooter, rooted in dual-stick classics such as Robotron: 2084 and Smash TV. We knew it had to be pick-up-and-play, gory party-game fun, but still deep enough and tense enough to stand among its forbearers. We knew multiplayer was a key feature in a game of this type, so we pushed hard to get four-player online co-op integrated from the start. With core values in place, we set out to fill that savage coffer with all the classic zombie lore we loved."

You'll be able to choose from four "unlikely heroes" and the arsenal is gonna be impressive. You will always have a chainsaw "strapped to your back," for example, and your default weapon is the M-16 that absolutely never runs out of ammo. HA! You've also got the option of blowing the walking undead to kingdom come with C4, and you can find other weapons as well, including the chaingun, dual SMGs, shotgun, and the ever-popular flamethrower. Light 'em up! Finally, with 55 levels spread across 7 unique environments, the player will get plenty of bang for his buck. We'll fill you in on the full release details (date and price) when they become available but in the meantime...well, just prepare your fingers for more zombie slayin'.

This looks interesting, but in some ways looks like a rip off of Left 4 Dead... I'm not complaining, I love Left 4 Dead and would love to have something like it on the PS3, but it doesn't seem very original to me.

left 4 dead doesn't have a flame thrower or a chainsaw and this isn't first person just because zombies and 4 characters r in a game doesn't mean its a rip off of left 4 dead

Yea Left 4 Dead was the first thing that came to mind especially because of the four characters to play. But in a way I think i'll like this one better. To me, L4D is getting sort of boring again with only 3 weps in survival, so hopefully this will just be a really fun game. I'll probably end up buying it.
