Warner Prepping Lord Of The Rings: Aragorn's Quest

Okay, so now Warner Bros. Interactive is in control of the "Lord of the Rings" franchise, and they've revealed their first game based on the legendary fantasy series.

According to ShackNews, an official E3 list showing off debut titles has displayed Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest, which ought to pique your interest if you were a fan of the books and movies (and really, who isn't?). However, before you go envisioning epic, bloody battles from the viewpoint of Strider, you should know that this game is described as "the first Lord of the Rings videogame created specifically for kids and their families." So instead of fairly complex strategy and intricate battle mechanics, we'll get "accessible gameplay set in a friendly, colorful rendition of Middle Earth." The player will still be able to take part in a variety of combat, including both sword fighting and archery, but we doubt you'll be chopping the heads off orcs. Now, we don't mind making games for kids and families and what have you, but - and forgive us for saying so - what part of the battle-ravaged Middle Earth is "family-friendly?" The movies weren't for kids and neither were the books...why make a game based on more adult content for a younger audience? Yes, I know, expand the demographic and all that, but it still seems like a strange decision.

Warner hasn't announced the targeted platforms just yet but if Aragorn's Quest is coming to any of the PlayStation systems, we'll let you know.

ugh, they can never do a LOTR game right. Return of the King for PS2 was the only "good" LOTR game. I'm still a huge fan, and I read all the books and even collected the figurines, lol. But seriously... the PC did a nice game in "Battle for Middle-Earth" in which it was sort of like Starcraft, you guys should check it out. I think LOTR concept would be a phenomenal action RPG if done right, there's so much more than what the movies present that could be made into a great one, and "Third Age" for ps2 doesn't count...

LotR is never over. I've read the books twice and watched the movies hundreds of times. They are all classics, both in literature and in film. Plus, there is a reason why LotR Online is the second most played MMO.

They needs to do another game my precious. They needs to make a game about my precious, isn't that right my precious? My precious is so precious. My precious says that the Bagginses should be hunted down and Elveses are scrawny cowards. They should make a game about me that 's right isn't it my precious. Gollum, yes, my precious, a game aboutses me.

Precious, precious....a game about the hero of the ring....my precious. No more Tolkien my precious, he's a bad man. He writeses too much. Too much descriptionses my precious, too many wordses. It makes my head huuuuuuurt my precious, it does, yes. Yes, my precious it does.

My precious doesn't like it when my head does hurt. No more elveses or hobbitses. No more short ones with beardses, my precious hates them so.

Gollum.

My precious says a game about new things and new people. Gollum.

No more swordses, no more fighting. My precious wants a game about catching fishes, and eatsing them. That's it isn't it my precious.

Precious? Where is my precious? Where is my precious!? It's that Baggins again! Don't like hobbitses. Kill Baggins! Precious! where are you my precious?

Oh, here you are, I was sitting on you! Dirty Hobbitses, trying to steal my precious! kill Hosbitses....

</gollum>

Whatever happened to the remake of the Hobbit?

What, no love for Gollum? ;-)

<spoof mode>
EA announces "Gollum's Precious" a new free roaming adventure game that draws together narrative features from The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion with the humor Monty Python.

A story penned by non other than JJ Abrams, and directed by King Kong's Peter Jackson. "Gollum's Precious" raises dungeon crawling adventure to new heights as everyone's favorite magically mutated, ne'er do well searches for his precious.

High Octane action with the game's innovative "blind man's bluff" control scheme that uses the PS3's Sixaxis controller in ways never seen before. Multiple game modes including, "feeling around in the darkness", "Grasping for my precious" and of course "Co-op cave fishing". Who could forget Gollum's Fish song? "Gollum's Precious" reproduces it in game as a mood enhancing sound track while you and a friend spend fruitless hours fishing for cave fish.

Finally, uncover the secrets of Smeagol mode. Ah, but to do that you have to....well, that would be telling wouldn't it?

"Gollum's Precious" coming in Winter 2150...or not at all.

</spoof>

I would really like to see a LotR game done right where its dark and more true to the books. I agree that The Return of the King was good but it could have been so much better and with the PS3's hardware they really could bring the scale of the movies to the consol but no one has come close to that yet imo. I probably won't even rent this if its "kid friendly".

LotR 3 was one of my favorite games for PS2. It was epic! I think I'll go buy it second hand and play it again lol. This doesn't seem as good as that was.

I'm going punch EA in the face. Nobody (seriously, NOBODY) is asking for Strider's Adventures in Happyland.

And here I thought I was going to read about a LotR game that plays like GoW. What do I get? Family oriented? Whaaaat?? If anything screams "chopping heads off" it's an Aragorn game. They finally got Wolverine right... when will they get LotR right?

No kid friendly Middle Earth excursions for me. And honestly why do this? Kids only care about what's happening right now, and the films were big a long time ago. They probably haven't read the books, and the only conceivable reason for doing this would be to release it alongside the two new films which probably haven't even started shooting yet.

You know, they're crazy that way. Adult oriented GTAIV releases with HUGE sales numbers. Fallout 3 releases with HUGE sales numbers. Add the adult oriented Halos and Gears sales numbers and you're looking at a serious market there. Do they bring justice to LotR? No. Let's aim for the kiddy demographic. Why? Why do that? I'm not going to play it either. I've got kids and there's no way in hell I'd buy it for them. Kiddy oriented or not.

Only kids I've met on Ps3 Network are foul mouth teens. The idea is laughable but whatever. I just wish they would improve LOTR Conquest from a good game to a great one with improved 1080p graphics faster servers leveling & new character skills more environments & game types custom soundtracks(that music is so bad) & all free dlc with those types of improvements it would've gone from a must rent for 1 month to a must buy for me.

Perhaps they will release it with the upcoming Hobbit movie. That is definitly are more kid friendly story, have to say a game around argorn, probably not so much.
