Warner Prepping Lord Of The Rings: Aragorn's Quest
Okay, so now Warner Bros. Interactive is in control of the "Lord of the Rings" franchise, and they've revealed their first game based on the legendary fantasy series.
According to ShackNews, an official E3 list showing off debut titles has displayed Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest, which ought to pique your interest if you were a fan of the books and movies (and really, who isn't?). However, before you go envisioning epic, bloody battles from the viewpoint of Strider, you should know that this game is described as "the first Lord of the Rings videogame created specifically for kids and their families." So instead of fairly complex strategy and intricate battle mechanics, we'll get "accessible gameplay set in a friendly, colorful rendition of Middle Earth." The player will still be able to take part in a variety of combat, including both sword fighting and archery, but we doubt you'll be chopping the heads off orcs. Now, we don't mind making games for kids and families and what have you, but - and forgive us for saying so - what part of the battle-ravaged Middle Earth is "family-friendly?" The movies weren't for kids and neither were the books...why make a game based on more adult content for a younger audience? Yes, I know, expand the demographic and all that, but it still seems like a strange decision.
Warner hasn't announced the targeted platforms just yet but if Aragorn's Quest is coming to any of the PlayStation systems, we'll let you know.

<spoof mode>
EA announces "Gollum's Precious" a new free roaming adventure game that draws together narrative features from The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion with the humor Monty Python.
A story penned by non other than JJ Abrams, and directed by King Kong's Peter Jackson. "Gollum's Precious" raises dungeon crawling adventure to new heights as everyone's favorite magically mutated, ne'er do well searches for his precious.
High Octane action with the game's innovative "blind man's bluff" control scheme that uses the PS3's Sixaxis controller in ways never seen before. Multiple game modes including, "feeling around in the darkness", "Grasping for my precious" and of course "Co-op cave fishing". Who could forget Gollum's Fish song? "Gollum's Precious" reproduces it in game as a mood enhancing sound track while you and a friend spend fruitless hours fishing for cave fish.
Finally, uncover the secrets of Smeagol mode. Ah, but to do that you have to....well, that would be telling wouldn't it?
"Gollum's Precious" coming in Winter 2150...or not at all.
