Nomura Mostly Done With FFXIII, New Trailer At E3
In the latest Final Fantasy XIII update, we get a hint that despite some discouraging rumors, the game may be nearing the end of its development cycle.
In an interview with Dengeki, Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that he is no longer involved with the hotly anticipated RPG. Basically, he will only participate in the remaining voice work and advertising, and that's about it. This could indicate that the team is past the crucial phases of development and Nomura is free to move on to Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which has apparently been on the back burner while they completed FFXIII. Also included in the interview is proof that all new media for the latter title will be on display next week at E3, along with something else (perhaps a currently unannounced project). Of course, Versus is too far off to be shown at E3 so it's better to wait and hold out hope for an appearance at next year's show. As for Nomura, who usually has a critical role in most any major FF release, it seems he's pretty much done with FFXIII and once again, we hope that Square-Enix will hit their previously estimated Winter 2009 release date for Japan.
That new trailer is bound to have a big impact next week, though, and provided it's available directly thereafter, we'll get it to you ASAP.

The problem is that Nomura can't take a piss without some asshat blogging about how that effects FFXIII's release date. This is then made worse by the interconnectedness and complete lack of fact checking that are typical in the community.
Basically, site A will make some totally speculative comment without anything to back it up. Site B then sees this and repeats it as if it were fact. Then site C sees that and all hell breaks loose. Yet at no point in this process was S-E actually involved in any way...
I know saying this will upset some people, but frankly in this case PSX Extreme is part of the problem. They're rarely site A, but they've been B or C plenty of times.

Do you not see the implicit contradiction there?

What's that? It's Square Enix's PR department.
So, which reports are we to believe the ones from a week or two ago that indicated all was not well? The ones that have SquEnix people using phrases like "God only knows"? Of do we read this new report and take it at face value as this article does?
This is why people are begging to cease caring. The crack addled chimps with typewriters are confusing us all again.
So, do we cling to hope and the words of this report? Or maintain out cynicism based on earlier reports? Do we care any more?
