Famitsu Confirms New PlayStation 3 RPG From Koei

There was a time when we at PSXE would complain that so few RPGs were available on the PlayStation 3. And while we can still complain to some extent considering the current selection, we're suddenly very excited about the near future.

As is typically the case, the role-playing titles are the last to get into full swing during any generation. But in addition to Final Fantasy XIII (which admittedly won't release in North America until next year), we've also seen recent announcements for the likes of Resonance of Fate, Demon's Souls (freshly confirmed for the US), White Knight Chronicles, Last Rebellion and Cross Edge. This lineup will make any RPG owner happy, and as it turns out, we might be able to add yet another title to the list: Koei's Trinity Zill O'll Zero, which has popped up in the latest edition of Famitsu. According to PS3Center, Zill O'll first saw the light of day way back in the original PlayStation days, and was later remade for the PS2 and ported over to the PSP. It's a more mature title with darker overtones and while this new unveiling sounds appealing, this exclusive PS3 RPG may indeed remain in Japan. It's hard to say, though, and we'll be looking for it at E3 next week.

Early on, it appeared that the Xbox 360 would be the new king of the RPGs in this new generation, but that sentiment is dying out quickly: the PS3 RPGs are coming...a good number of 'em.

Interesting, I wonder what they have cooking up... Keep my eye out on this one! Suspect it will be another JRPG specific title, right?

I tell you this much, the Xbox360 won't have much on the PS3 this E3 if this continues at such a pace.

Q!

How about a sequel to Bladestorm while they're at it? Still one of my favorite PS3 games...

It really, really was, wasn't it?

Never played anything like it, before or since. Just a few very minor improvements and it could be a GREAT franchise.

They should make a new or remake the original LEGEND OF LEGAIA rpg. The PS1 original was in my opinion an overlooked game that had a great story and combat mode.

In any event, more rpgs for PS3 please :-P

Well, that wasn't Koei (it was Sony), but nevertheless, I LOVE the Legaia games. Legaia 2 on the PS2 was great, too.

The original had a sexy babe :3
I like the looks of the original so might give that a shot.

Hoping it's a good rpg, Koei isn't known for super great rpgs. But hey the more rpgs the better.

Gundam is owned by Bandai-Namco. They'd have to do that.

What ever happened to that Ni-Oh game that Koei was making for the PS3? That was looking pretty badass when the PS3 was first announced and now nobody knows about it.

Yeah...what happened to that
It was very intriguing(really like Japan's history of the "samurai era"). Though it kinda looked like it was set in ancient China, whose history I really like too.

Anyway they probably canceled it, sadly.

Yup, Ni-Oh was cancelled.

But you can still see some of the art & video from before they canned it, right here....

This is great news!
I knew the day would come when I would no longer be disappointed with the lack of RPG's on the PS3. E3 09 just keeps getting better.
Still praying for another Legend of Dragoon.
