EA's Moore: E3 Needs To "Regain Its Strut And Swagger"

Those who were lucky enough to be present at certain E3 shows back in the late '90s will call them the "glory days" of the expo. Unfortunately, subsequent E3s didn't quite live up to expectations, despite the fact that we all have high hopes for this year's show.

One guy who wants E3 to return to its former state of glory is EA boss Peter Moore, who, in a recent interview with MCVUK, stated that E3 2009 should present some definite "strut and swagger." In other words, he wants the expo to "return to its roots" and give all the attendants some memories that will last until next year's show. Said Moore:

"If there was ever a time when our industry needs to look confident and optimistic, it is now. The return of the E3 Expo to its roots – of providing a focal point for our products and a strong communication platform for the health and vibrancy of our industry – is welcomed. I am truly looking forward to this year’s conference and hope we are able to achieve certain things with the show.

The first is to ensure that we embrace the games industry’s loyal consumers in more meaningful ways at the event – and not shut them out. We also need to demonstrate as a global industry how video games are at the absolute forefront of connected entertainment. Finally, we need to regain the industry’s strut and swagger – something that the E3 Expo once so wonderfully portrayed."

Well, it's going to be tough to "embrace the loyal consumers" when most of them aren't invited, but we understand what he means. And we certainly agree with his assessment that video games "are at the absolute forefront of connected entertainment." Right now, there's a very good chance that E3 will rebound this year with the aid of some big announcements; hopefully, at least some of the pre-E3 rumors we've heard will come true. This is one show that probably shouldn't die...it's a symbol, and we always need positive symbols.

The last E3 I went to was in '96 and I had a lot of fun there. Lots of games, lots of women and I ended up with many bags o' crap.

I think E3 is going to be fine. He needs to worry more about EA and bring them back to their glory days. They've been really disappointing this generation.

My thoughts exactly, if anyone needs to get its "swagger" back, its EA.

its bogus the public arent invited. booo.. they'd get a lot more publicity if it was a weekend event where everyone could go to. They would get millions to attend. I wouldn't mind paying an entrance fee either.

LOL, Peter Moore is precisely the character to talk about swagger and strut. He's a showman by nature. I was very glad when he left MS to join EA, I'd hoped he would have a big impact on EA -= I still hope for that. At Microsoft he often seemed to be swimming against a tide. Watching him work with Microsoft was kinda like watching Bill Gates trying to be funny with Seinfeld. That said he was with MS for a long time so obviously it worked pretty well for him.

Still it's funny to hear of him calling for strut and swagger and then see a picture of him looking like some kind of diabolical imp in that red leather chair. I hope he brings that strut and swagger with him, because too many game companies are run by suits.

3 of my buddies on the PSN were invited.. they all in the top 5 for trophies in the US..All expenses paid too. I guess having 40 platinums and over 2700 trophies has its perks
