Duke Nukem Forever Was Never Coming To The PS3?

Although you may not remember, 3D Realms once said Duke Nukem Forever would definitely come to "consoles," and most of us just assumed that included the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But new evidence says the now-defunct project may never have been intended for Sony's machine.

According to SKOAR!, and in looking at Jay Brushwood's linkedin's profile, it seems DNF was to be revealed at this year's E3 before the game's demise. Furthermore, it was being developed "for the PC and Xbox 360," with no mention of the PlayStation 3 anywhere. This may be justifiable as the team may have finally shifted into "real" design mode when the PS3 was in the early stages of its lifespan; a time when many developers weren't interested in taking a chance on the struggling system. And yet, this revelation causes several new questions to arise: if another studio does pick it up, will they be able to make it for the PS3? Will Microsoft attempt to snag it as an exclusive for the 360? How far along were they in terms of development; would the PS3 version have to be a port by this time? Or might they still be able to design both versions simultaneously to some extent? Well, we may never get the answers to such questions, even though 3D Realms has remained open and alive. They still want to retain the "Duke" name but at this point, nobody really knows what's going to happen. Another question now is, do we care?

For now, though, DNF remains exactly that: D.N.F. "Did. Not. Finish."

I love the DNF saga! it's like a soap opera for gamers.I just think this has all been a giant plot;the delay and the suppose shutdown of the company could all be intentional hype for the game so at E3 they arise and show amazing finished gameplay DNF and make everyone say whoaaaaa.

Wow, you really need to see the world and get a little more perspective on things.

Honestly, no huge loss for me. DNF would've struggled against the likes of Halo and Modern Warfare 2. Unless it revolutionised something, but from the supposed leaked videos, it just looked like another shooter. Just with more swearing and titty shaking. And if that floats your boat.... "see the world and get a little more perspective on things"

I still remember when this was just a PC game that was going to use the Quake II engine...

I never really thought it was going to come out for the PS3. Of course, it's been a long time since I thought it was going to come out at all...

even if it did come out now on all consoles the hype would kill it. There is no way it can live up to it, and 3D Realms knows this. Having said that i don't think the legend of DNF will ever go away, it'll come up again in every gaming generation, the vision of what could be

So I see that they are gimping the game by not developing it on the best system available. What they will do is test the upper limits of a soon-to-be-replaced console.

But anyway, nobody cares. I seriously doubt it's any better than something like Haze or Timeshift.

Well if it wasnt intended for ps3, probly at the time they thought they wouldnt make money from a ps3 launch, now they might cos they might make money, its gonna just be a port and it's not worthy of my money and it might just make my ps3 vomit.

It's taken them twelve years and they still haven't got it finished, how many years do you think it would have taken them if they had tried to make a port for the PS3 too? We would have seen it just in time for the launch of the PS 9..lol
