ESRB Listing Hints At Final Fantasy VII US PSN Release

If you're a veteran gamer and Final Fantasy VII isn't in your collection, you may be in danger of having your gaming license revoked. But you can avoid all this if you just download it from the PSN.

We had heard whispers of the game heading to digital download land and now, an ESRB listing has all but confirmed it: according to a variety of sources, including Kotaku, One Last Continue, and 1Up, the FFVII listing has been located. It's right there for you to see - just follow the link - and it clearly indicates that the role-playing classic should become available for play on either the PS3 or PSP some time soon. It's already on the Japanese Store and when North American fans learned of it, they all began to clamor for Cloud and Co. We figured it wouldn't be long before we'd get it and it appears we were right; however, we don't yet have a release date, and it may or may not show up at E3 this week. We'd like to think FFVII will be on the US Store some time early this month, but we hate to guesstimate on stuff like this. Let's just say that the ESRB isn't exactly in the habit of rating 12-year-old games a second time just for fun...it's not an official confirmation, but it's darn close.

So anyway, if you haven't already played it (and if so, shame on you), you will want to pony up the measly few bucks and download it when it becomes available. Oh yes, you will.

I already own it on PS1 discs, but this would be good when i get the new PSP so i can download this to play on it if thats possible.

Wow how b.a. is this?!...one of the greatest PS titles to ever grace the earth and its finally coming to the PSN!! Oh wait, this should've happened about 2 or 3 years ago when they took away BC. Now I have too many great games to play. Very Nice Timing

Shame on me, I've never played this. I may however purchase it if it'll arrive on the EU PSN Store, just to see what all the fuzz is about.

This would be such good news. You know, although it's a 12 year old game from the PS1, if this appears on PSN and therefore on PSP/PS3, I can see a few people buying one or other in order to play it. Whether it counts ass a PS3 exclusive or not, it's certainly a PS3/PSP game that won't be seen on the 360.

Time to do a happy dance....and finish Star Ocean 2 on my PSP.

Whoohoo!! i hope its the same versions as the Japanese only in english. the Japanese versions is supposed to have additional cut scenese that werent present in the original 1995 release.

The one released on PSN in Japan was the International version with Japanese language wasn't it? I would assume that this will be the International version with English.

If it's 10usd like Resident Evil is then I'm not getting it. PSX games should be 5.99 and that's it.

I've looked online, and I can't find the disc version for less then a few hundred dollars, so this is great news. Even if they sell it for $20, it's cheaper than you'll be able to find it anywhere else.

In the article it say's "PS3 or PSP", why does it say that when it's a PSN Classics download that is compatible with both systems. I'm just saying that can confuse some of the readers.

Also as I've said in a past article, FF VII in the JPSN store is 1,500 yen which equals $14.95 US. If anything the price might come out to be $14.99 to 20 which if you think about it isn't that bad compared to finding the set online like I did for $56 (thanks ebay while smiling) and not being able to take it on the go.

The international was based on the US version with additional scenes, yes. The problem that I see with us westerners getting the international version is that there never was an english iteration made. Now I would be happy to be proven wrong but I don't see this happening unless SE made a western version recently for this special occasion of it arriving on the USPSN

What about the greatest hits version? That released later. Isn't that Greatest hits version kind of a best of all worlds conglomerate of FFVII?

Good news cause i can't find the discs on for sale anywhere except eBay and those prices are nuts (but i did drop close to $300 on the entire RE collection)

also @Highlander:
don't worry at this hitting Xbox, they don't like RPGs over there, requires to much thought and patience.

Oh, I'm not worried, the likelihood of Sony allowing a PS1 emulator and gme to be sold on XBL is very, very, very small, really small, awfully small, so small as to be non-existent.

Seriously, without a bunch of cash, great royalty rights, a DRM upgrade and some real crawling from Microsoft, FFVII via PS1 emulation on XBL is not something anyone has to even consider happening.

That said, if it could be done, you have to wonder whether Sony would make a small mint selling PS1 games to Xbox360 customers?

The GH version is nothing more than a repackaging of the original release. The reason why I can say this with confidence is because on my 7th bday in 1997 I had recieved a original copy which after years of owning was stolen and now I currently own a GH copy which is compatible with my game save and the GH still has all those translation errors that made the game so fun to read.

I just realized that I got FF 7 on my 7th bday in sep 27 1997. lol Wierd.

Never thought I would buy anything from the psn store thought about it a few times always ended up not getting anything especially if its more cash for DLC which should have been on the disk to start with.

Anyways was looking on psn today and wt! Final fantasy VII for download! Got my cc straight out £7.99 now i can play it on my ps3 or psp :D happy days again

£2.99 more than I would have wanted to pay as I think no old psone game should be more than £5 but I could'nt resist :D
