No GT5 In 2009, Arkham Asylum PS3 DLC To Be Free
Sony's E3 press conference is tomorrow but to tide you over until then, we've got a few new updates for you.
As reported by Variety's The Cut Scene, Gran Turismo 5 really won't be released this year, contrary to the high hopes of racing aficionados. There's also the mention that God of War III has "slipped" to 2010, but that's definitely not accurate. The last we heard, the game was set for a March 2010 release, with only the scant possibility that it may launch in January. Any talk about it coming out in 2009 is strictly based on speculation and wishful thinking. The blog also states that Microsoft will have a big musical-oriented surprise at their conference today, and Joystiq has confirmed that the upcoming exclusive PS3 DLC for Batman: Arkham Asylum - where you can play as The Joker - will be free. Just as a reminder, the game was initially scheduled to release later this month but has now been delayed until August 25. We have several great titles to keep us occupied until then, though. For instance, you can have a ton of fun with the highly addictive inFamous; it's one of 2009's must-plays.
We're counting the hours to Sony's conference tomorrow - 11 a.m. PST, 2 p.m. EST - and you can be sure that we'll bring you the news as it happens.

Whoopti-doo...
[No offense to Microsoft, but in all honesty, I can say that a Singstar version with 20 queen tracks for me to sing along with, which includes the music videos of the tracks, is about 100 times more attractive than a Beatles air-guitar game. So, in that spirit, I ask, was this really your big surprise? Really? I mean, Really!?]
Now Tony Hawk is showing us the ropes on a Skate controller....yay.
Next up, Modern Warfare 2 - not really my cup of tea, so yay, I think.
Two map packs for XBL, no indication of exclusivity - yet...
Oh, now they have some SquEnix t...folks on to talk about FFXIII. Oh, they're so excited to be showing it running on a 360 - let's hope the GPU doesn't implode onstage....I guess MS will go on and on about this since they were first to show the game at this year's E3 ...blah..blah..blah...

That's the stellar - exclusive - line up?
Now they're talking about piping SkyTV through XBL in the UK. I guess they needed something to challenge PlayTV there. If it doesn't have a cost advantage, I don't see many people being willing to tie up their Internet connection with a live TV feed on a video Game console with all the reliability of an old Yugo or Lada.
Gosh, mind blowing stuff there from Microsoft. I guess we'd better look out for the sting at the end of the presentation eh?
Uh-oh, here it comes, Kojima just took the stage. MGS on 360 incoming!
Metal Gear Rising - on 360 - in development now.
Supposedly something completely new in Metal Geat. Kojima says "But, I didn't say anything about Solid Snake"... Konami, when is your press conference?
Looks like 360 owners will finally get a Metal Gear game, just not MGS4, and not for a while.
Oh, now it's motion controllers, no it sounds like it's a motion tracking system through a camera. Wait, doesn't PSEye already do this...?

If I ever have time in my day job for a second day job, I'll have to do some classes to learn how to write properly. Then maybe I might be able to lay some professional claim to writing about games but for now I'll settle for amateur.
I've written articles for several tech and gaming news sites over the years, but apart from one particular stint I've always been an occasional contributor and regular reader.

To me the tone was set with the Beatles appearance. Only two of the original 5 are still alive (sounds familiar to some Xbox 360 owners eh?) and they're just bringing the same old music - remastered. Just like the rest of the line up. It's ll been seen before, including the motion capturing camera.

The only 'surprise' is a Konami/Kojima MGS game on the 360. But considering that MGS4 was supposed to be the be all and end all for MGS, all I can say is.....so what. But, are you really saying that this one game combined with the rest of MS's presentation is stronger than just the confirmed line up from Sony et al? Kinda soon to declare a winner when Sony is still warming up in the bull pen.

I guess I'm actually in the position of feeling that Microsoft really missed an opportunity here. to my eye the game lineup really isn't that good, and apart from an interesting applet to go with the motion tracking camera, everything else really felt like secondary applications, not core stuff.
There was only one 'surprise' in the game line up, and it was really to be expected and not really a big shocker in the end, apart from that I really find than on reflection I'm trying really hard, but failing to see Emperor Bill's new clothes, in fact, Bill is looking decidedly naked. Ew!

This generation hasn't really felt like a "next" generatiojn until i just witnessed a woman talking and interacting directly to a simulated life form.
Imagine what Fallout 3 would have been like without the crappy text... talking directly to characters who react to your voice and the way you speak. The possibilites are endless, and i hope Sony has an answer to this.

A lot of the times we get a bunch of talk about things that are supposed to revolutionize and never really leave the ground. As cool as the Wii-mote may be for some people (not me) I think it has way underperformed in games. It's a novelty, but it's never really been done right to where you feel it's really interactive.

I would happily trade Home in its entirety and pay $5/month for stuff like the radio and Netflix, sky, twitter, facebook, party chat. That stuff is amazing and for what it costs to be a gold member an absolute f'n steal. I used to hate on it like all the other PS3 fans, but I simply can't feel anything but completely overwhelmed with what MS brought to the table today.
WOW, I am leaving now to pick up a 360.

Microsoft bringing a radio station to the Box, something that PSP did AGES ago (albeit Internet radio), but PS3 never got it???. With some of the stuff on show 2nite, you gotta wonder wtf Sony is doing.
And Project Natal, fair enough its motion capture, but i found it really impressive. I just hope that Sony don't come onto the stage 2morrow and announce a ps3-wiimote type controller, I don't think people will be as impressed.

Did you make this same approving noise when Sony included Google searching from the XMB directly? Or a menu item to initiate a google search based on the game you were currently selecting?
Adding a front end for Facebook or Twitter really is nothing particularly new to me. Actually, if Sony simply added the ability to place Internet bookmarks in the XMB along side the Browser Icon so I could bookmark Twitter, Facebook, etc... right there in the XMB, I would consider that it was 99% functionaly equivalent to what Microsoft has done. In that light, I find it hard to be head over heels impressed by something that is essentially a convenience for console owners who don't have access to a real browser.

Ok, fair enough, when these were introduced I did find them slightly pointless :)
What I'm trying to say (and apologies if it's not coming out right) is that Microsoft seem to know what people what and give it to them.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love Sony's conference to wipe the floor with the 360 tomorrow. Like I've said, game-wise there was nothing mentioned that was (imo) excellent. Splinter Cell looked good as did Alan Wake. I just thought the features after the games were a nice touch.

I'll agree that they are nice additions and examples of adding functionality that the consumer may indeed like. I'd love for Sony to do more of what they started with Internet radio on the PSP and Google searching on the PS3. Sounds like we probably agree. My apologies for being so reactionary today.

All I can honestly say is I was sweating through that whole presentation, and it seems like unless Sony has some amazing new features on PSN to unveil at E3 or sometime soon, Live is gonna attract more gamers (casual and hardcore) to the 360. As amazing as the PS3 exclusives are and how they run on PSN, Sony has their work cut out to compete with Live.
Forza 3 looked pretty cool, but looked more and more like an Arcade racer then a racing simulator in that presentation. Looks a lot like the PGR series. I still feel GT5 is gonna win in that area. GT5 looks way more sim like than what I saw with Forza 3.
Alan Wake looked pretty cool as well.
Well I'm excited to see Sony's conference tomorrow. I still feel they have the better exclusive game line up, but where they need to also focus on is PSN and offer amazing features that Live has and will have with all those amazing announcements. They better announce Voice Messaging, In game voice chat, and Game invites on the fly for a starter tomorrow.
As much as I love my PS3, it seems like Microsoft is pulling away from Sony in the area of their online services and likely so as a subscription based service, Microsoft can afford to put all this candy into Xbox Live. With the more powerful hardware Sony has in the PS3, just makes you wonder what Sony could do if more money was poured into the PSN possibly by adding a subscription fee. For services like Microsoft offers, I'd be happy to fork over 50 beans for all that.
Good luck Sony to you tomorrow, am eagerly awaiting you're show. Microsoft has definately raised the bar in some areas. As for exclusive games content, Sony steals the show.

Alan Wait - action/shooter
Halo ODST - expansion pack, action/fps
Halo Reach - Honestly it's getting a bit like Mario now, action...
Left 4 Dead Again - action, zombies, fps
Forza 3 - car racing sim
Splinter Cell - Stealth, action, shooter
Crackdown 2, action shooter
Joyride 2, Social gaming version of car-jacking?
Shadow Complex, 2D/3D action
That's it. Apart from MGS which we know little to nothing about, that was it for Xbox exclusives. Bringing SkyTV to Xbox has no impact outside of Europe and really feels like a response to PlayTV. Integration with facebook was their only option since they won't let you run a browser on the Xbox.
Perhaps I'm being overly cynical, but I really found nothing too surprising except Kojima actually being on Stage for MS. With the Money MS throws around and the size of their install base it would be nuts if Konami didn't try to do an MGS game on the Xbox.

PSP - the upcoming Soul Calibur is exclusive to PSP, as is LBP and many others. Sure we know about them, but we knew about most of the 360 line up as well.
PS2, it's still there and still selling games, not glitzy perhaps, but solid, and solid is profitable.
PS3, they have a lot to show. Home has been really building, and if we're really honest XBL has *nothing* to touch it. Sony is working on an enhanced motion control scheme, but already has SixAxis and PSEye with motion tracking. Exclusive blockbuster games galore will be announced/presented. And of course there will be the multi-platform games.
Really, it's very early to try to declare MS a winner here and say that Sony has to respond. Especially considering how weak Microsoft's presentation actually was. Incidentally, was anyone else expecting a new HD Zune and Zune/360 integration? Didn't see it, did you?

There are three (or is it 4) Sony published mini-games on PSN right now that use full body motion capture exclusively. Sony brought the peripheral and games and no one else did - did you support the concept by purchasing a PSEye and any or all of those mini-games? I did. In a way they're like Flower or Linger in the Shadows in that they are essentially interactive art, or images. However they are fun, and relaxing, and if you're drunk, they can be a little mind blowing....LOL.
Sorry, I just don't see this as revolutionary on Microsoft's part. It's a good idea, but not a new one.

I think because how they presented the new features to Xbox live it got a lot of PS3 owners all worked up. Guys you had Twitter, access to movies and tv shows(oh by the way you can keep if you want) since last E3 and you had motion with the PS3 eye.
If Sony has a great showing tomorrow the same people going "oh dear god the sky is falling" after the Microsoft presentation will have their chest puffed out.

PS3 owners are still waiting for cross-game chat and Microsoft keep piling in more and more features.
The Sky partnership gives Europe a Netflix equivalent finally, plus live Sports and although I don't use Twitter at all or Facebook much, I can imagine millions of people getting ALOT of use out of this.
To everyone saying to use the browser for Facebook, why would I want to use a clumsy browser when I could have it integrated into my OS?
Metal Gear seemed inevitable and the camera will only really impress me when I see it implemented into real games not just mini games, although nobody will convince me the PSEye is anywhere near that advanced.
I know this is a Playstation fan site but some people on here (Highlander) really need to give credit where it's due. Nobody expected anything from Microsoft and they presented a pretty strong conference, let's hope Sony can do the same or better tomorrow!

I'm not saying Microsoft didn't have a good show but come on all they had as terms of exclusives another Halo game, Forza 3, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell, Crackdown 2, Metal Gear game that may or may not connections to the main story, One exclusive track from "Rockband: Beatles" and maybe exclusive maps for "Modern war 2" mixed in with features you can get off the PSN network and browser.
I'm willingly to bet once the buzz of E3 dies down Microsoft is going to back off on what "Project Natal" can do.

XBL just offers more of a sense of community in their dashboard than PSN.
Sony as I stated earlier, better start bringing out some of these features including Voice Messaging, In game voice chat (the text chat last update blows chunks), and on the fly game inviting to compete on a more level keel with Live.

However, I have to say, if I see one more person use the following argument, I think I shall actually scream aloud.
"I think Sony really needs to up the ante on PSN because quite frankly it is embarrassing compared to Xbox Live.
PS3 owners are still waiting for cross-game chat and Microsoft keep piling in more and more features."
Guess what? The news is in, and the reviews have been done. Feature for feature, PSN and XBL are pretty much a wash, with the exception of Home on PSN for which Xbox Live has nothing comparable, and Cross Game chat, for which Sony/PSN has a half-way horrible solution.
See the thing is that Cross game chat seems bloody pointless in any game where the other players are gonna line you up in their sights and blow you to kingdom come. If you must talk to another friend while playing a video game, pick up a telephone. Want more than one friend? Make it a conference call. Honestly Cross game chat's supposed importance has been inflated to ludicrous proportions. It's a peripheral feature at best and certainly not a core function that creates a meaningful difference between XBL and PSN. It's one tick box out of many, that is all. So please, let's not peddle the myth that because PSN lacks Cross game voice chat (in the way that you want it) that PSN is somehow "embarrassing compared to XBL". That kind of statement is non-sense.

Plus with PSN's god aweful way of hooking up with friends on some online titles and having to text message a bud on which room you're in so he can find you is dumb, irratating, and a waste of time.
So yes Live is better for the community experience and if you don't own a 360 and haven't experienced the awesomeness of getting around to communicate and hook up with your buds, you don't have much of a clue.

However that being said the 360, for me at least, doesn't have the amount of triple A titles that I would want to play. As for all the other bells and whistles on Xbl, I could care less, that's what I have a PC for.
As for Project Natal, meh...show me what it's able to do five years down the road then I might be interested.
I just can't get behind a company that left it's first console high and dry just to get the jump on the competition. I mean really...
Sorry for the rant, just had to speak my piece.

That Natal thing sounds retarded a hit for the Halo fans.
How can I steer a car with body motion? it just doesn't feel right to do so if I'm taking a tight corner.
Look the games announced are underwhelming Halo I didn't really care about it.
Even Alan Wake which is basically the new Halo/Gears which is very unappealing to me.
Forza 3 will be alright the last game wasn't great but it's worth trying.
I was quite shocked with MGS: Rising seriously Raiden ?? that's a brilliant exclusive for the 360.
Overall it was disappointing wasn't that much original first party games that doesn't involve guns & war

That is why even if Sony shows some really good games tomorrow, if it doesn't have something that makes you say WOW, then MS wins.
If I (a loyal Sony customer) leave E3 with the thought of a freakin virtual boy who I can interact with as the stand out, then MS wins.

With respect to the 'virtual boy' from Microsoft...How sad does one have to be to want to spend time with one's virtual boy? Play a game, watch a video, listen to some music, surf some frakin' porn for crying out loud, something, anything but a new super-di-duper version of Microsoft Bob.

I also am pretty sure that Milo thing was completely scripted and we will probably never see it again. What they showed was AI that is way more advanced then that anyone has ever seen before. I just don't buy that it can recognize human expressions and voice as easily and flawlessly as they say it can.
I know I'm never going to play a game that completely uses the Natal. What will the lighting have to be to read your movements? what happens if someone says something during a game and Natal interprets it wrong and shuts off the 360? What if someone walks in front of the camera while your playing? I just don't see it working the way they showed it and promised it will. I'm not trying to rag on it just to rag on it, I'm just a realist.
The only real thing that has me excited was the Metal Gear announcement and that's not exclusive.

And when it comes down to the main point, gaming is the central point on all these consoles. And so when it comes down to hardware and software, Sony really does and will win the battle in the end.
Sony is known for triple A titles and this years lineup is a major kick in the nuts for Microsoft.
Microsofts defense is they really have deep pockets and wanna buy every major exclusive Sony has to bury them. Unfortunately for Sony tho with Kojima Productions now on Microsofts platform and Square Enix as well, everyone must admit that those two exclusives are HUGE.
Plus it makes you wonder for next E3 which exclusive Microsoft will steal again. Money speaks and when it comes to money, no company is loyal. Sony better buy some of these developer companies, cause if they don't Microsoft will.

i was expecting some damn good announcements but what was shown the usuall hype and never deliver
this is no different from there previous shows,
every year there show isnt spectacular but exceptible
i wanted to see a sh** load of games but we got more halo a second crackdown and left 4 dead
forza can never compete with gran turismo
and alan wake is obviously a look-a-like of heavy rain
basically nothing we didnt know about
the only thing shocking was metal gear on 360,
i think kojima will do what square enix did
everyone needs the extra bucks in this generation
honestly i can say it was a good show but, lets be serious it shouldnt take much to top it

Seriously they should be more innovative, all they are doing is just taking an old franchise and just paying Few million bucks and making it exclusive, timed-exclusive, or just multi-platform. Man but that did disappoint me when Kojima walked up and tapped that dude on the shoulder...Why Kojima why...
he just turned on all the MGS fans that bought the PS3 and the MGS4. WHY FU**ING RELEASE TO A CONSOLE WHERE THERE IS NO INSTALL BASE OF THAT FRANCHISE...I am not buying a 360 just to get that game, that is just stupid.
I thought Kojima had some honour but i guess when it comes to M$ money no one can stand it i guess...
P.S. Looking forward to what PS3 has tomorrow, I hope they don't waste a whole show on how great the PSP Go! is, seriously they better have something that would blow the MS conference out of the water...

And they are gonna waste some time on the PS2 as well. Showing all the WWE, Madden and other games that real gamers don't care about on the PS2 (cause anyone who really cares about games plays them on a PS3 or 360).
Then they're gonna show good games for the PS3, but I really don't see Sony blowing us away. Everyone said just WAIT for Sony's conference last year, being sure that Sony would do something to counter FF13, and then after, we were like... THAT'S IT?! All they did was show a video of MAG that didn't show gameplay.

Since the news that this new MGS game isn't going to be an exclusive for the 360 what did Microsoft win? I guess they want their fanboys to say we got Metal Gear Solid too so ha ha.

Third, this spin off is not a 360 exclusive, so who really cares?
About the rest of the MS pressconference, Project Natal looked interesting if in case it works as well as it looked on the presentation, which i highly doubt. I'm sure Sony will present something similar tomorrow actually, something that probably will be even cooler, I'm smelling head tracking coming!!

Sony isn't stupid to not know what they have to do to compete. They have won every previous generation hands down and continue to do well with the PS2 and PSP. Think about those businesses as well. ChuChing. And on top of that they put out quality hardware. Hell i've never had to replace any of my systems. I'm on my 4th 360. What a joke. Wouldn't be suprised if Natal lasts a year and chokes.
That said lets not forget about tomorrow and the kick ass games Sony will show. And maybe, just maybe you might turn your tune after seeing their conference. So enough claiming doom and gloom for Sony please.

The conference was enjoyable and showed off some good games, and had good low-blow suprises. That's exactly what's gonna win E3.

GT5 = already has a huge demo in Prologue
GOW3 = Got revealed last year and we have seen gameplay
Uncharted 2 - The beta is just around the corner
Heavy Rain - The new footage came out last week
Ratchet - We've already seen it this generation
MAG - All the previews came out a week ago.
But who knows. Maybe Sony has a new game that will blow us away. And maybe Trico will look 100X better than the year-old trailer we saw.
Sony has a chance, but it does need something big. Or a lot of smaller things that add up to a great experience.

Has the world heard about team ico's project? Heavy rain might be known now, but that is a new IP never before played. Last year another new IP came out called LBP.
You see other than Alan Wake and Natal Microsoft had no new IP. They just buy it and thats it. They love to steal from Sony and you need to understand that. Enough said.

Also, Stickemup: you really do seem to be searching for ways to be negative in regards to Sony. Every last one of us knows it's all about software, and it doesn't matter if the announcements are "surprising." Just because we already know about the likes of GoWIII, Uncharted 2, etc., doesn't mean it automatically fails in comparison to Microsoft's surprises. Take the two lineups at face value. Compare as such. ...you can't honestly say the PS3 exclusives are playing second fiddle to MS's, can you? Honestly?
I don't mind questioning. I really don't. But what you're doing is borderline...borderline looking for a fight, and borderline complaining.

Trust me guys, I want Sony to win E3 as much as you.
But sadly if Sony doesn't have something new that's shocking, the masses will say that MS won E3. Just look at everyone on G4. And I'm not just talking about Sessler and Megan. Even the people they interview.

G4TV - ah yes, Microsoft could have freeze-dried an elephant turd, polished it up, engrave a Halo on it and that crowd would still consider it a triumph in the gaming world.
