Metal Gear Solid: Rising Announced For PS3, Xbox 360
Okay, so most of you already know about it already, but it certainly deserves a story. Hell, it's super crazy huge news!
Unveiled at Microsoft's E3 press conference, Hideo Kojima's new game is - wait for it - wait a little longer... Okay, here it is: Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Although it was initially unveiled at Microsoft's conference, it most certainly is coming to both the PlayStation 3 and 360, so all you PS3 fans needn't go run into a cave and hide from all the 360 loyalists who have been pining for a MGS exclusive. But, they are going to get the MGS franchise as many expected; in this new generation, there's almost no such thing as exclusivity amongst third-party developers. The cost of creating games is just too high, and with a combined user base of over 50 million for both consoles in question, what business guru is gonna say, "meh, we don't need half of 'em." Of course, the PS3 side will claim that something like Rising won't be as amazing as it could've been had Konami and Kojima simply stuck with Sony's more capable machine. But hey, c'mon...look who we're talking about. The game will rule, plain and simple.
As for the game itself, it will star Raiden as the main character; Mr. Snake won't be around, which makes sense, considering his departure in last year's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Arnold says you can expect a straight-up action title along the lines of Devil May Cry, with little to no stealth elements. They're calling it "Lightning Bolt Action" rather than "Stealth Espionage Action," so that's a good indication right there. So anywho, we'll certainly place this on our "must see more of!" radar and whenever new information and details arise, we'll tell ya all about it.

This is why Raiden is not needed
The series might just go downhill from here
Hopefully it's just a forgotten game in the franchise and MGS6 comes back to greatness
At least they're not getting Kojima's masterpiece(MGS4)
I consider this new MGS a spinoff, just like GTA: Vice City Stories

I personally think that they encouraged Konami to pursue multi-platform development, whether it be through a slush fund or some other means when they knew Konami's eyes were already wandering. I think that was evidenced by MGO not being tightly bound to the PlayStation Network, by using PSN IDs, the wallet, and doing DLC via the PS Store. Now, with the latest "expansion" MGO can indeed use the PS wallet, but it's still not tightly bound to any of the normal PSN facilities. Like I mentioned in an earlier comment on this story, that makes me believe that they were exploring MGO for the 360 but either abandoned or put it on the back burner for the next MGS game (MGS:Rising as it turns out).

Anyway, I can't wait to play as Raiden. I really wanted to be able to use him with the MGS4 engine though, not in some DMC type of game.
And before anyone says it, I refuse to play MGO. The whole Konami ID thing is terrible and I do not want to buy an expansion just to play as Raiden every once in a blue moon when it picks me to play as him.

I cannot wait to play Uncharted 2, GOW3, and whatever TRICO ends up being. I'm also a huge Ratchet fan. The new Ratchet looks better (visually) than the last, I didn't even know that was possible.

"i think the solid has to do with the 3D-ness of the series"
That's exactly why it was called Metal Gear Solid. Because of the 3D graphics. Snake had nothing to do with it. If that were the case it would've been called that in the NES days as well.

this is dumb, the 360 couldn't even handle MGS4 so what makes you think that this game isn't going to suck balls?
unless this game turns out amazing then i'm staying far away from it... after all, metal gear to me is all about stealth...

IF the PS3 is also getting MGS:Rising (I'm not assuming it will, but I'm not assuming that the PS3 won't get another MGS title altogether either), I would expect that they'll do primary development on the PS3 and scale back the graphics quality, engine complexity, and AI for the 360 version. Not so much as a port, but as something fine tuned for each platform.
On the other hand, maybe they'll just do a similar but unrelated game for the PS3...

Now I know that there haven't been any announcements of that for the 360, and who knows what's being cooked up with MGS:Rising, but I think it's likely that MGO will be updated for MGS:Rising, and we'll see multi-platform, network independent fps combat before all is said and done.

Its also possible that the MGS4 engine is versatile enough to take a total shift of paradigm into "lightning bolt action", in which case both MGS:R and MGO are running on the MGS4 engine.
and again, its possible that a modified MGO designed for use on the MGS:R engine will ship with the game.
so there, three possibilities. =D

Anyway...you guys gotta admit there was some style when Kojima walked on.
I love how that bi*** named Tom just kept asking the audience "OMG what is the game you've always wanted on our console?"
"!" *with sound effect*
Kojima-san walks on stage smiling.
That made me lol. I'm just glad they didn't announce MGS 4 for the Xbox 360. If it's just a new MGS...I'm cool with it.
If he announces MGS 4 for the 360...Kojima is contradicting himself to the fullest after all his complains with Blu Ray not having enough space for him and all.

Hey go get the Elite. You know you are gonna have to buy that one if you want a hard drive and 2 free games. It's only 400 dollars and if you want wireless you will have to spend 100 dollars making it a 500 dollar investment. And that is not including the 50 you gotta drop for Live.
And then all I hear from Ben and everyone else complaining that the PS3 needs a price cut. Lol's 400 bucks for the PS3 is a steal for what you get. No price cut needed nor should even be considered. 80% of the 360 consumers are buying the Elite bundles and you don't hear them complaining about the 400 dollar price tag.

I doubt it will be an exclusive to the 360 thou, cause then his game is only a western game as Japan doesn't really have 360.... the consumers there doesn't support it.... On the other hand will they all of a sudden start buying the Xbox in order to play it if it is an exclusive? Especially if MS drop the price of the Xbox again? ......mmmmm..... Makes me wonder.....
Anyway like I said I like Kojima and I respect him for what he has done over the years. And if for some reason this is an exclusive to the Xbox then fine. I'm not going to hate him and promise to never by his stuff again that is just typical fanboy bullsh*t.... But I'm not going to run out and by a Xbox either....
MS has been quite for far too long and I knew they had some stuff up their sleeve... I bet they have some more nasty surprises for us...
BUT the one thing that is going to P**** me off and get under my skin is the ripple effect that's about to follow on every other Forum, blog and pro 360 sites about how we (the PS3) are screwed and how the PS£ is dead and this and that and this and that.... THAT is what bothers me.... Sad that this is all they need to get all fired up again.
Anyway I will be looking forward to Kojima's next PS3 project..... Until then I'll get G.O.W 3,Uncharted 2, GT5, R&C: Crack in Time...etc etc .... Oh and I'd like to find out what Epic's new PS3 exclusive will be as well... So the 360 fanboy's should celebrate too hard for too long.....
Sorry for the long post but I had a lot to say...

This generation is just so unpredictable, and i don't like it lolz, i want the old PS2 days back now...
It's really sad to see the best selling game on the PS3 go multi-platform, one of their last 3rd party exclusive gone, now Sony has nothing to lose, and i really hope they crush them this E3.

Who gives a flying f*ck if any lil fan-girls want to try bashing us????
It just means they don't have enough good games on their own system to keep their petty lil self-absorbed minds satisfied for more than 2 minutes without the help of gulping down double-fisted handfuls of Ritalin medications.
The shame for them is that they can't comprehend that we'll all be way too busy playing all our exclusives, from 2009 thru 2012, to even think about giving a damn about whateven they may think!

I'm not saying anyone's lying about any of this, but if your going to post an article like this, you need to give a source or tell us how this information came about, not just "Arnold said so"
Like that other guy said,
"I'm just curious how you came upon the knowledge that this is a Multi-Plat game. When it was revealed at the Microsoft presser, it was revealed in the EXCLUSIVE to 360 portion. I hope it is coming to the PS3, but I was under the impression that it was a 360 exclusive. If this is true, Microsoft's Presser grade comes down just a bit in my eyes."

In my eyes MGS4 is now the last in the series and this is a new thing entirely. If I wanted a fast paced hack n slash then I'd play Ninja Gaiden or DMC - not MGS.
If Kojima isn't involved either we won't see the level of perfectionism that we saw with previous MGS titles - correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Koj say he wasn't happy with the level of quality in MGS4? Who else in this industry has that sort of drive and level of perfectionism to actually say that; what is in my eyes the best game of this generation so far, is substandard and could be improved?
To me MGS is over - this is a new series entirely.
MGS hasn't gone multiplatform - MGS died in childbirth.

When watching the press conference M$ said everything after FF13 is now on the exclusive list and MGS Raiden was in that area of the conference? just a little confused thats all.
It would be cool if it was Multi-platform but we'll see the sony conference is today, getting excited, first i'm going to watch Nintendo kinda curious what they have up their sleeves ;) I also agree with Nick42 i believe this to be a whole new series as well.

I've written this before and I'll write it again, Sony's greatest asset is its second- and first-part developers. This is a long way away from when Sony's internal developers were a joke in the early days of the PSX.
What Sony needs to do is buy up the remaining second-party developers like Insomniac and Sucker Punch before M$ft lures them over to the green side by throwing truckloads of, well, greenbacks at them. If this happens, that should be all Sony fan's worst nightmare.
As for MG going to the 360, you know this is the last thing Kojima wants to do, especially with all the shots he has taken at M$ft in his games; but like a good employee, he does what his bosses at Konami tell him to do.
Unfortunately, this also means this new MG game will NOT be as amazing as it could have been as a PS3 exclusive. I'm sure it will be good, just not as amazing as it could've been.
Anyway, take solace in the fact that MGS4 isn't being ported to the 360. I, however, would have loved to see them try and do it and either butcher it or put it on 20-plus DVDs.

The interesting thing is that both Insomniac and Sucker Punch are in a similar situation as Naughty Dog was, but they haven't been acquired Sony. I dont think it'll be much longer until one or both of these guys gets absorbed by Sony, and I'd be willing to put good money on the fact that something to the effect that they're "in talks" will come out soon. maybe even at e3
