E3 2009: "Play, Create, Share" Brings Us ModNation Racers
LittleBigPlanet definitely kicked off something new and as Jack Tretton just said, "Create, Play, Share," wasn't just a tagline...it was the start of a whole new genre.
And then, they unveiled ModNation Racers. Basically, take the creative, innovative idea behind LBP and transport it to a completely customizable cart racing game. You can design your racer from the ground up and we assume you can also design your carts as well, but that's only the beginning. Yep, you can even create your own track and get this, you're gonna "create by playing." We're currently watching a track development video where you drive around with a character and in the character's path, a track is being laid down. Basically, wherever you go, the game will create the racetrack behind you and it's something we've really never seen before. They're working on creating a track in under five minutes and it's not just about the road; there are environmental attributes and elements as well, which gives the game some definite flavor. The team says they need the PlayStation 3 for a game like this, and for those of you who love creation and customization, this one sounds awesome. Oh, and you can also refine your new track by entering a different mode where you can add in some other objects, like forests and water and the like.
ModNation Racers is another step in the "Play, Create, Share" genre that began with LBP. You really gotta see this video (which we'll try to get you soon), where we see trees and houses - whatever the guys selected in the menu - springing up behind the cursor. It's pretty damn impressive and it's set for a 2010 release.
