Metal Gear Solid PSN Release Information Announced
"Snake? Snaaaaaake!" Sorry, we just had to do it.
The world has gone MGS-crazy since E3, what with the announcements of Metal Gear Solid: Rising for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP. But it doesn't end there.
Not only have we already told you that last year's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will hit the Greatest Hits list with the agreeable price of $29.99, but we've heard that the original MGS will come to the PlayStation Store in digital download form. Well, according to Kotaku, Konami has issued a price and date for it: June 18 and $9.99. Now, you may notice that this is a good $5 more than most other PS1 games available on the Store (which you can play on either the PS3 or PSP, if you needed reminding). We've also heard that Final Fantasy VII will retail for that same price as well, so we're starting to wonder if this indicates a permanent upward shift in the price of these downloadable PS1 classics. We'd like to think they cost what they do simply because they are what they are...the best of the best of that generation. And this is probably the case, but with Sony's continued stance that the Network will never have any fees, they may need new ways of producing bigger profit.
Well, anyway, the information is worth having. Metal Gear Solid is a masterful gem from a time long past, and most will agree that it's definitely worth a measly ten bucks.

Oh well, I will still rekindle some great memories with this game. Both MGS and FFVII came out while I was in the Army and both were so amazing at that time. I was stationed in Hungary for 10 months between 97 and 98 and I played though FFVII while living in a tent! LOL!! My how times have changed.

I am unfamiliar with playing ps1 games on my psp. Is there a decent way to make the game utilize mor of my psp screen? The closes I could find was using the full screen setting, but this turned the game into stretchovision. On the normal setting it is like watching something at 720 native on a 1080 monitor.

You can alter the way the screen is handled when playing a PS1 game on the pSP.
Simply press the 'Home' button and change the screen options in the menu that comes up. 'Screen Mode' is under 'Other Settings' in that 'Home' menu. Choose Full screen, it more or less fills the complete screen. You can also choose zoom, but I fins you lose a little off the top and bottom of the screen, if you can stand the slight stretch on the aspect ratio, "full screen" works best.

MGS2 for me was a huge dissappointment for some reason. I had such high hopes for it and was fairly let down. It seemed like presentation became more important than gameplay and I didn't like that about it. MGS3 totally lost me and I couldn't get past the beginning of the game. MGS4 however is great and feels like the gameplay is back on track. I have only played the first act of 4 and I think it is time to get back into it again. :)

Never had a chance to finish the "master piece" when I had my PS1, its amazing how all this years later, I get to play it on my PSP or PS3...
Do you know if the saves can be transferred between the PSP and PS3?
Sorry to bug you with the question but, you seem to be one of the most knowledgeable guy in here, besides Ben of course LOL

Just in case, I made a second PS1 memory card and copied all my saves to it. Then from the backup card I made, I resumed with the file copy and convert.
I was able to load up FFVII on my PSP right where I left off on the PS3.

I don't like Zelda whatsoever. Link annoys me.
I bought FF7 on the PSN, and sadly it just looked too horrible to play. I need to get me a bigger memory card for my PSP. I hate that it doesn't fill the screen up though!

I have SotN from the store, and is OK on my HDTV, but I do not want to buy the digital version if the actual disk looks better.

I've been playing through FF VII on the PS3 and it doesn't look that bad at all on an HD TV. There are options on the XMB to display the game in full screen and with "smoothing". The backgrounds and cut scenes have held up rather well.

I only own an 80GB with no B/C due to unfortunate circumstances. Although i do have MGS on disc, obviously it's unplayable on my part.
