Why Sony's E3 Conference Took Home The Crown This Year
Yeah, yeah, we're PSX Extreme so of course we say Sony won. You say that, I instantly retort with a simple, "shut it." I'll tell you flat out who I thought won, as I've done in many years past when Sony clearly didn't win, but I think it was painfully obvious this year.
Look, here's the deal: content is all that matters in this industry. Without the content, which means we're talking about software, all you have are three really big paperweights. Granted, many more factors have come into play in the new generation, as systems like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are fully functional and massively capable multimedia devices. But at the end of the day, we own our systems so we can play the games we love, and as I've said many times before, Sony's software lineup greatly outstrips Microsoft's. Yes, one can claim that with the announcement of a Metal Gear Solid for the 360 and Project Natal, that alone might top Sony's conference in terms of a "wow" factor. But what are we really talking about here? The PS3 is getting Rising, too, and let's not forget that the PSP is also getting Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Furthermore, Sony's motion tech was every bit as impressive as Microsoft's in my eyes, and I'm not the type of guy that puts much stock in motion sensing.
The PSP Go! wasn't a huge announcement in my eyes, but it was big, and the exclusive lineup that continually pleasured our senses during Sony's conference was unmatched. I want Alan Wake as much as anyone and I buy every Halo they make (provided it's not a strategy game), but those presentations of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Final Fantasy XIV, MAG, The Last Guardian, and God of War III were incredible. And they didn't even go all out; we know that Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time and Gran Turismo 5 are also on the list, and all are guaranteed winners. Even besides the PSP Go!, the new software for Sony's handheld - Peace Walker, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, etc. - was mighty impressive, and lest we forget, Microsoft doesn't have a portable unit. Getting back to the PS3, I almost rolled my eyes when I heard the name, "ModNation Racers," but after I saw the presentation and remembered what LittleBigPlanet brought to the table, I was immediately intrigued.
When all is said and done, we gamers look down the road and ask, "what will I be playing?" If I have to examine all three conferences and ask that question, the answer is a whole lot more fun to answer when I think about the PS3 and PSP, as opposed to the 360 or Wii. The latter...well, I guess they just don't bother with software for that system, anymore. They never really have after the first year, if people didn't notice. But anyway, even if FFXIV doesn't end up being exclusive, that was a surprise, and the rest of the software kept me excited throughout. This year, Sony wins. That's it. No debate. It was a big change from E3 2007, you know?

All PS fans point to God Of War, GT5, Uncharted and Heavy Rain but what E3 left is that all of them, except one, are being pushed to 2010, whereas Microsoft unveiled a strong lineup for this year and the next.
This should give us a lesson and it's that the more one sings early victory each year (which Sony fans do systematically EVERY year) the bigger the crow plate is when Big shows prove one wrong.
Lets face it, Microsof took it with them and I hope the "OMGZ SONY WILL PWN T3H WROLD" comments don't start all over again in 2010.
Edit: To the article writter: I would bet money right now on that you would be writting how ridiculous MS motion controller was if Sony and MS switched sides and MS had to show up a Wiimote-like controller after Sony's Natal with depth sensor, multiarray microphone, camera, custom processor and software. Come on, Natal sweeps the floor with any other motion sense offering right now it's not even funny.

As I wrote as reply to another article; I don't believe Natal can track horizontal/vertical alignments like the Archery demo from Sony's motion controller.
This is the reason why I personally believe Sony's controller is better than Natal.
Your arguments about the camera and microphone are also moot, since the PS Eye already does all of that.
There's nothing about the software that Sony could not achieve if they partnered up with someone like MS did.

All motion sensor controllers are for the casual gamers... we, the people who love gaming, to comment on gaming sites and finding gaming info, won't be using this controllers, at least for the next couple of years when those turn to be the standard.

Or worse, what about the neutral position? Palm with fingers facing up..?
No, precision and the more advanced physics require gyroscopes, and this is where Natal fails and Sony's motion controllers with the PS Eye succeeds.
Besides, the PS Eye itself was never supposed to have depth sensors. That's what the motion controllers are for.
Natal simply incorporates depth sensor into the camera (lol @ someone walking in front of you while playing?), whereas Sony don't want to sacrifice precision for "wow factor".

The only thing good for Natel is party games. Have fun jumping up and down in front of your screen in your living room. Natel just doesn't have the precision to use in games like Oblivion, which every PS fan thought of when Sony showed the tech demo of the guy in armor holding a shield and sword. With Sony's motion you can sit down and still play games in a 3d space. That the difference between the 2. With Sony you are using motion controllers to control whats on screen, with Natel you have to use your whole body. One thing MS fans don't like to do is to stand up and move after eating 10 pizza's.
Which of the 2 will be more acurate and have more precision in a Tiger Woods game?
So MS fanboy, I hope you look forward to all those Wii type party games to come to your 360. This isn't MS trying to create a whole new genre or having an advancement on gameplay very much like Sony is. This is MS hoping to do what the Wii does and compete with them in that market, which they'll get their ass kicked in.

Agent is a guaranteed smash coming from Rockstar and anyone who says they don't want GOWIII has problems. The GT5 vid made Forza look cartoony, and on and on and on... Even MS loving G4 had to admit the Sony booth was the jumpin-est.

It was like they were taking notes at the Microsoft presser and just hit them back at each point. From Natal to their own motion controller, "Splinter Cell" to "Agent", Forza 3 to both GT5 and GT mobile, Metal Gear Rising to a true Metal Gear sequel only for the PSP and in my opinion that "Assassin's Creed 2" demo blew the "Rockband: Beatles" demo out of the water.
The only people I feel bad for was Nintendo fans DS gets all the love and the Wii get leftovers.

Slightly off-topic, but I gotta ask: did anyone else find the appearance of the (remaining) Beatles and their widows at MS's press conference a bit useless? Sure, they brought some "star-power" to the show in terms of presentation, but they didn't really add anything at all - if Paul McCartney actually performed or something, then it would have been different.

Yup, I noticed that too.
And besides that..... Ringo couldn't wait to do a 20 yard dash to leave.
And Paul just looked totally bewildered with everything.
Such a shame, that is just Not the way I wanted to remember any of the Beatles!
And I could care less that Yoko was even there at all.
To me, she will always be nothing more than an un-talented screaming banshee that married a Beatle & rode his coatails into 15 minutes of fame. In fact, the only thing she ever did that impressed me was with the naked album cover.

who else was laughing like crazy when that girl with the lisp went up and talked about facebook and twitter on x360?!?!
i'm sorry if that's rude, i mean, i think the facebook concept is cool and all... but i couldn't help but laugh every time she said facebook. lol. or other select words in her speech.
its definitely worth watching again if you missed it the first time (although unlikely).
i also liked how sony didn't feel the need to bring a load of "celebs" or whatever on stage. i prefer to hear a little bit about the game first.. i didn't like how MS just "skipped the talking" and played videos back to back. Alan Wake was definitely the best game coming out of MS's conference. that game looked sweet.
and that guy in ms's conference that introduced natal looked like one sly SOB. he was the guy that said, "we finally have snake on the xbox," and then kojima looked at him like "WTF are you talking about man?!" haha. i just couldn't find myself to trust anything that guy was saying. he seemed like a real snake-in-the-grass type of guy...
anywaaayyy.....
sony's conference felt more professional and the speakers were more.... inviting? idk. i like how he realized everyone was cheering at hannah montana. haha.

Infact ms was so desperate for a lineup they announced left 4 dead 2 not a year after the first, which started a petition among angry gamers.
As for the ps eye, we will have the eye pet long before project natal and sony's wands, and I feel sony's wand are much more logical
at this stage and they could always improve on the eye later if needed.

Sony showed up with games galore. So many that they just couldn't fit them all in. The PSP boasts a more impressive game line up than the 360, and the new model is all download, no UMD - if I had a dollar for every time someone said "If only Sony would drop UMD...." I'd be able to retire. PS3 continues to grow it's line up of exclusive titles and unique titles. Titles range to all genre, and then the bombshells start to drop. MGS Rising isn't exclusive, there's be a new MGS game on PSP, and FFXIV is exclusive (on consoles) to PS3. God of War III impresses and Uncharted is literally off the charts. Sony really set the pace by showing game after game. Unlike Microsoft, they didn't waste time and have celebrity cameo's to use yet more time, they let the games speak, and showed things live. Then their motion control displayed a precision and control clearly lacking in Microsoft's demo, and Showed everything working now, not tomorrow. All this and still no date for GT, no Heavy Rain, no Ratchet, no PS3 slim, no price cut, no....well there were lots of things we already know/knew about and Sony had so much to show, that they had to leave lots out. Sony is all about games and using the games to drive console purchases. It's not about controlling the living room it's about offering the best content, and letting the consumer decide what happens in their living room.
Finally Nintendo showed a very poor line up of coming titles and seemed content to talk about Wii Fit Plus and the new sensor accessory. The new sensor accessory looks like a pulse/O2 finger meter as you will see in many medical establishments. Considering the lack luster delivery, the muted colors and the almost medical nature of their new accessory and the health focus of Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus, it seems as though Nintendo no longer wants to do games, but rather wants to do something in medicine or health. Perhaps a merger with Homemedics? Either way, and all joking aside, Nintendo really showed very little at E3, and had little of anything to talk about. Like Sony, no sign of a price cut, despite a clear slowing of sales of the wonder-console. Where do Nintendo go next? What are their aims? What's their strategy? Unlike Microsoft and Sony, it's hard to really get a handle on this with Nintendo.
In the end, Microsoft seems to have showed drastically fewer games, and fewer major games than at previous E3 shows, their emphasis seems to have been more on other services and accessories.
Sony brought games, games and more games. They obviously believe that games are what sell game consoles, and so they're delivering games. I believe this is a very powerful tactic because it puts control into the hands of the consumer buying the games.
Nintendo appears to have lost their way utterly. It's almost like they didn't expect to sell so many Wii, and don't quite know what to do now.
I do think Sony had the stronger presentation this year. More games, better range of games and genre. Games for hand held and home console. At the end of the day, being a gamer is about games, so there's really no other measure that you can use to determine who 'won' - games.

wut i find stupid, is when halo 2 and gears of war were the main system exclusives for the xbox, they were also on pc, and every xbot said they are exclusive to xbox, bcuz sony's ps3 doesn't have em, dispite the fact that it's on more then 1 platform. but when we get one like that, they are quick to snap back by saying "Quit calling it exclusive!! whether you like it or not, its on 2 platforms, hence not an exclusive, SO STOP!!!" <<(Actual Youtube Comment BTW)
the same kinda stuff happened between ps2 and xbox and then ps3 and 360:
ps2:came 1 yr earlier
ps2:had mostly 2 pilot exclusives (gta3,GOW)
xbox:blamed its failure on the 1 yr difference...
Xbox:mocked the fact that the system (at the time) had only 2 pilot exclusives..
Ps3:Came one year late
Ps3:had a lack of games.
360:Laughed in sony's face that they came 1 yr late.
360: still to this day, only has 2 pilot exclusives.. (halo3, GOW2) and defend them to the end of the world..
see the Hippocracy??

Because in my opinion whoever gets more people excited and talking is who won.
And the stuff about Natal and Milo being fake, isn't true. A lot of sites took Milo for a spin.
I'm sure it will be more than 3 years before we see a full game using the technology.
If Sony would have shown footage of Agent, it would have won it hands-down. But now MS fanboys have some arguments about Natal winning it for MS.

Microsofts Natal was so off in it's motion sensing on stage when that developer speaking (drug addict looking dude) moved his body around and the MicroWii Avatar took a crap fit all over the screen. "This is what the bottom of my shoe looks like," and the Avatar's arms and legs went flopping all over the place. I cried laughing at that. How embarrasing.
Then that girl playing that dodgeball game looked like she had a gerbil up her butt. LMAO. OMG a drunk person doesn't even look that funny.
Then with that Party Paint demo could you imagine how stupid that would be to have you're buddy or girlfriend (could be kinda kinky in a way with you're girlfriend) with their face in your butt to make the other half of the elephant. In the end that painting looked like something a 2 yr old would make.
Sony's version of a spray paint can demo with their motion controllers actually was amazing compared to 360's Party Paint. (MS actually are starting to sound like Wii now in their software names). That Natal won't be able to play sword or fighting games where you have to be precise with aiming or anything with guns or swords or stuff as their is no buttons like Sony's controllers will have to fire your guns and stuff. What are you gonna have to say, "Shoot, shoot, shoot", every time you wanna fire a gun. I just see quite a few areas where it will be limited.
At the end when that dorky looking Don Mattrick came on stage and announced the non Metal Gear game announcement and had Hideo Kojima tap him on the shoulder must of been embarrasing for the Father of MGS to have to play that part. Bet Hideo just cringed having to be out there. Too bad Rising is no original MGS game that we as Playstation fans enjoyed. He's even giving his youngters the tasks of making the game. It won't be his brilliance behind it. Glad Hideo's roots and passions are with the Playstation brand. Well I guess Microsoft threw him a cool million to do that skit like they did for the Beatles and Spielberg and stuff.
Microsoft were trying to be so Hollywood like, they really didn't focus on what E3 was about. Amazing Games/Tech. By filling in all those gaps with celebrities and freak shows, they really proved that they had not much to show and that is the conclusion I came to with MS's show.
Nintendo was dry as the desert that is all I can say. Mario Galaxy 2 and that Metroid were all they had.
Sony on the other hand won hands down with so much amazing exclusives on top of exclusives that time kept them from showing them all. If it wasn't due to time restraints, they probably could of gone on for hours more. Sony won hands down. No need to say anymore.

Anyone who denies that Sony's conference had the best showing would need their eyes checked.
Now, I won't knock off Microsoft because their conference was better than last years. But 'Project Natal'? I'm not feeling that and I have a bad feeling it's going to flop. But they did have something for the 360 fans either way.
The only thing that interested me from Nintendo was the new Super Mario Bros. game. I hope it's good because I'm going to pick up a Wii eventually.

simply because well 1 they spent the first hour on sales how many pieces of DLC has been downloaded that crap, i seriously could not care less so stop wasting my time.
2 they spent to much time on the psp go it was nice to see them suporting the psp for a change with some good games but they took 1 hour to anounce how many games seriously get on with it.
3 it dident start well for me i started watching it in home and paul would get 10 words out than the video would have to buffer i put up with it for 10 minutes than lost it.
seriously whats the point of providing something if it does not work.
and lastly nothing they showed suprised me GOW3 and U2 look absolutly out of this world but nothing sony showed suprised me.
but ms suprised me with alan wake and splinter cell i realy was not excited for that game but after that demo im realy excited for it.
and to top it off no GT5 release date WTF?
no uncharted release date no R&CACIT release date no heavy rain release date dissapointing.

You mentioned about 6 games, and two of those are restricted shooters... Are you really looking forward to those? Anyway, Zelda might not even come out in 2010. And Mario Galaxy 2 looked exactly the same as the first, it's hard to get excited over a game that looks exactly like it's last. Look at Uncharted 2 and how much bigger and better it looks. I didn't see that with Mario Galaxy at all, if you told me it was footage from the first, I would believe you.
Back to the 6 games though, that's counting third party! Sony has more games than that from just first and second party, if you included third party, it would be about 20 or more "good" looking games.

Not bashing any consoles, but the PS3 has 345 games coming out THIS YEAR ALONE, 35 of them exclusive to it. And a extremely accurate 1 to 1 tracking motion senser Sonymote coming this spring
Plus not to metion all the tons of new releases coming out for the 2 PSP's too
(OK, I did mention it, LOL).
That certainly betters both of MS's & WII's offerings combined!
How can you not think so too??????

Oh, is that f*cking so???
Then I guess you must think I'm one of those casual gamers you so speak of too, just be cause I intend on getting that Sonymote!!!!!!!
But I find it quite a bit odd though, because I don't remember any one of you "so called predictors of the future", taking the time & effort to knock on my door with all your lead #2 pencils & any check-off motion sensor surveys in your f*cking hands!!!!
I had.......
Tandy computer w/games
Intellevision w/games
Colecovision w/games
Atari 2600(wood grained) w/games
I own now......
SNES
Atari Jaguar 45 cartridge games
Atari Jaguar 64 bit CD adapter 9 Disc Games
Panasonic 3DO 45 games
Sega Genesis 140 games
Nintendo 64 78 games
Sega Saturn 75 games
Sega Dreamcast 48 games
Nintendo GameCube (with the GameBoy player attachment). 24 games assortment for both
MS Xbox 177 games
Sony Playstation 536 games
Sony PS2(fattie model) 140 games
Sony PS3(just got a 60 GB model) 22 games
Let's see now, that make "17 SYSTEMS" that I've owned & played so far!!!!!!!
And I'm also getting a used Wii & 360 in the near future, just for some of their exclusives.
So am I one still of those casual gamers that you few seem to know so much about??????

M$ conference was dull and boring. Natal is not going to hack it at all, they are not focusing on their target market at all cause i know people with a 360 and they even said thats something they would never use. Milo my one friend said is nothing that he would even look for or have it's just to scary. He says he likes to look at his tv not have his tv look at him.
Nintendo disappointed me I was hoping for more info on a new Zelda but I wasn't really expecting much to begin with. I am looking forward to the Kingdom hearts game for DS though.

A certain site on the Interw3eb has decided that the on-stage presentation was fake - no surprise, it's a scripted presentation. However a large number of gaming journalists apparently tried our the tech and claimed it works more or less as on stage. Along with all that, there is a very persistent thread of thought that Milo is being controlled by someone off stage - something along the lines of "Do not pay attention to the man behind the curtain..."
I wonder just how much of what was shown and claimed on stage is 100% accurate and real, and how much is wishful thinking?

When I saw Milo, One thing came through my mind.. smoke and mirrors.
Milo was an example of AI, it doesn't matter how you interact with the AI, it's just trying to demonstrate AI. It had to be completely and utterly staged, it was a PR stunt designed to fool the audience, smoke and mirrors. If they actually had Milo working to anywhere near the levels they would have you believe, it would be in research papers everywhere, it would be a near enough break through.
Not to get fanboyish on this subject but look at the eyepet demo.. At one stage they draw a diagram of a plane the plane is picked up, the pet draws the plane inside of the screen and then the plane bits pop out into 3d and the boy-actor picks up the controller and flies the pet around the room (look on psn the demo is there)..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPENA1Bpm68 this is another demo of eyepet.
Considering MS already knew Sony had this coming, they had to come up with something more spectacular.. Instead of a pet they came out with a little boy.
Most of the reviews I have read about Milo, they point to it being broken. There is elements that look interesting, like facial recognition but they ask it questions it just nods, it ignores the questions and outputs something else completely much like a GIGO (garbage in garbage out) algorthim.
There is other stuff as well mentioned by some reviewers, like the fact that the developer in the background was inputting the persons name into the system and seemed to be inputting more information into Milo.
This will either be a very set scripted environment, or will never be complete..
For example to match the colours of a shirt.. It will have to have an index of every colour. It will have to go through its register of colours and then pick out something that matches what your wearing, its completely doable, but I dont think they did it. I reckon this has been knocked up quite quickly. The processing power required would be huge btw, what would it do if you stood their butt naked ? what if you take off your jacket ? .. It has to keep track of all of this information and then be able to process and output something sane, or it can just blurt out any old crap..
Next to the speculation about the AI code. Sony has the AIBO, which is an on the market electronic pet. The logic behind the AIBO, would be immense, the AI that something like the AIBO, the coding the algorithms will be far more advanced than this PR stunt just displayed. Hey and you can interact physically with it, which again shows where the idea of the eyepet comes from.. I wouldnt be surprised if Sony could integrate some logic so that if you have an Aiibo the eyepet and the aiibo did some crazy stuff together. This is all doable, but it costs a huge amount of money in a recession.
As for Project Natal, I know what site you are talking about. Some one else pointed a link to it some where else. The water reflection, is nothing more than aqua vita on the PS3 currently, if they couldnt pull that off without faking it, it tells you just how far they have to go.
The live elements they showed such as the tracking.. They mention stuff about skeletal tracking, the ability to track 16 points of motion on the body, great stuff. In practice the avatar was flailing about like the guy had no skeletal structure at all.
I reckon Milo was demoed because Natal is very far from closure. It was designed to amaze the audience and detract from Natal itself.
In all of the back room interviews, the interviewers have said categorically that the Natal looked very different, the sensors seem to be in different locations, others have pointed to it being housed in a rough black wood box etc etc.. I bet that thing they showed on stage was a complete fake as well.
The menu navigation was very cool though, Sony should do something like that for the ps3 that would be cool (the ps3 eye should be easily able to pull it off)..
The PS3 motion controller may have looked like a glowing dildo (does it have rumble support ? lol), but the thing was smooth true 1-1 tracking and you could tell incredibly accurate as attested to by writing on a wall rather than throwing buckets of paint.. I saw the Wii conference and the archery impressed me, the basketball impressed me, the motion plus tracking seemed to be very good. I saw the Sony demo, especially at the end when the demonstrator goes behind his back and gets an arrow and then starts firing the arrows and that just blew me away. Up to that point the motion plus was a dead cert purchase, after that forget it..
Sony took a dump on Nintendo and Microsoft tried to pull a fast one and it has pulled a fast one. News sites like the BBC fell for it hook line and sinker. The Gaurdian newspaper again fell for it hook line and sinker. The major news sources all believed the hype. Anyone that analysed the videos afterwards like us, would know that most of it was smoke and mirrors.
The BBC reported about all of the stars and about how impressive Project Natal Looked. Put the PS3 controller down compared to the Natal.
The MS Natal basically "stole the show" as far as big media/News companies are concerned, because they believe what they are fed and dont bother looking any further. Its a shame, but that's what Marketing is all about.

For those out there who think this Natal is the next wave, I tell you what. You go play with your little boy. I'll be throwing ninja stars at monsters on my PS3.

Even though there were a few bugs with sony's motion controller, I respect them for actually bringing out a live demo that was infinitely more believable than the video for Natal.
Microsoft did announce some good games, but most of them were multiplat. They acted like Modern Warfare and Rising were exclusives that they made.
I really think Ben is right here. Sony just had a whole lot more games. Plain and simple
P.S. Do xbots even know that the PSP exists? They cant find anything bad to say about it reguarding Sony's press confrence.

Think about it. They have a near monopoly on the operating system and web browser markets, i.e. you do not need to market those products. And when they did market new products they almost always fail--Zune, Vista, etc.
Now with the Xbox, MS uses similar tactics to push the system--market manipulation. That's why they buy exclusives because MS does not know how to market.
It's apparent in the opening of their conference. MS is trumpeting the Beatles Rock Band game as if it's only available on Xbox, which it isn't. That alone speaks volumes as MS doesn't have much to say about it's lineup for the next 12 months if they are promoting a game that available for every other system out.
I gave MS 7 minutes that I wish I could have back. If the best they can do is start their conference with a multi-plat title, then that tells me there is nothing else to look at.

I think im gonna blow the dust out of my cartridges and slot and play me some Starfox or Donkey Kong..
Off topic:
Both the ps3 and 360 can trace their sources back to the Super Nintendo... and il explain how..
the year was roughly 1991-92, the success of the Super nintendo was major, but the genisis inrtoduced a disk drive for it's console, so Nintendo looked into building one, and got an expert in Compact Disk Tech to help; This expert was Sony.
Close to completion of the unit, sony and nintendo got into a fight, and Sony branched off and released the Playstation, bringing the first of Sony's revolutionary units into existence, and leaving Nintendo in its dust..
years later...... sony actually helped build a processor that was later modified and used in the design of the 360.. a processor that wouldn't have been made, had sony never released a console..
lol i was bored and just wanted to share that :)

Actually Nitendo blindsided Sony right at their show.
Nintendo was supposed to talk up Sony's
involvement in making the new drive for Nintendo, all the way up to the actual announcement.
But once on stage, Nintendo did a complete 180 & shot down Sony & it's new drive instead.
Which left egg on Sony's face,
And the rest is history... It pissed Sony off, & into making the PS1.
And about the 360, one of Sony's many cell developing consortium partners(I forget which company) sold part of it out to MS

Wii: D-
Other than the game Coduit, and a couple others, not much else! No, seriously.
Since Nintendo is turning into a health monitoring company, they need to add add a defilitrator to their line-up too.
That way they can use to zap all their own R&D guys, or I'm afraid the patient Mr. Wii will some need massive transfusions over time.
If not, they need to make this their new slogan for 2010:
"Help, I've fallen, and I can't get up"
Mocrosoft: C+
MS showed about 6 games I'll probably buy when I get an Elite console.
But Project Natal is only PRE-Natal, and is only PRE-sumed to become POST-Natal, if at all.
It might be a little premature to say this, but maybe undergoing a C-Section would help deliver MILO along.
Anyway, MILO just creeps me out me big-time.
But I'm sure pediphiles the world over, will (bum)rush to love him....er.....I mean.....it.
SONY:A+
Sony really brought their A game(s).
Yup...345 of em, with 35 exclusive, in 09
Perfect responding 1.1 tracking Sonymote coming.
New PSP & tons of games for both coming.
100% PS2 Support still being maintained.
Nuff said, right????

I meant Microsoft, not Mocrosoft
BTW, another thing on the PS3.
I believe that Sony's dropping 80% off the price of their development kits is a stroke of genius, and soon we should start seeing more game makers jumping on the PS3 bandwagon.
And we gamers will be reaping the rewards from the fruits of those labors.

Yes there was the automatic 'oh yes' after each trailer had finished when MS showed Halo, FFXIII, Splinter Cell, etc. The reaction from the audience when Tretton said 256 reasons and we all new it was MAG had more of a wow factor. The audience cheered throughout the Uncharted Demo as it was clearly visually better than anything we have seen before, the audience cheered when we saw the level of detail in the city.
The audience was shocked as was I when he announced FFXIV. All you could hear was silence for a second then mumblings amongst each other. WTF was the most said words at that point I imagine.
I think after each showing when the audience left and they looked back at what they saw. At MS they would have thought that there were some good games there and Natel was interesting but most of it was just meh!
Less the said about Nintendo the better.
After Sony I bet the audience left pleased and had a good time as its always interesting to hear what Sony has to say and there's always a laugher or two. They would have left knowing that SOny had the biggest announcement in FFXIV, left seeing the best line-up of games and knowing that the exclusives were bigger and better than what MS had shown.
Its always better to go last as if you have a good showing, it can always make you forget what was shown at the other conferences.

"MS is trumpeting the Beatles Rock Band game as if it's only available on Xbox, which it isn't. That alone speaks volumes as MS doesn't have much to say about it's lineup for the next 12 months"
So you dont think that maybe.. just maybe.. this promotion had something to do with the fact that Rockband 2 launched exclusively on Xbox 360.
You didn't make that connection.. No??
"I tried to watch the MS conference nearly threw up. What most people fail to realize is that MS is horrible at marketing.....And when they did market new products they almost always fail--Zune, Vista, etc.".
This comment is almost embarassing.
Even the most Ardnant of Sony fanboys will admit that MS marketing, rather than their products are what stands out.
Vista currently has 400 million users.
Considering it is a terrible, terrible piece of software I would say that its been a massive success comercially, even more successful than XP.
If you're going to question marketing then question SONY... After all, the last few years from a marketing point of view was a complete and utter shambles.
The Playstation brand has taken a battering considering it was the market leader just a few short years ago.
The Walkman brand went from being an overwhelming market leader to being virtually dead and buried.
The PS3 is the most advanced piece of gaming hardware the world has ever seen.
It was made the market leading brand in gaming.
It lies in third place with little chance of catching its competitors.
That, from a marketing point of view, is a disaster.

natal dose seem neat but it was some what leggy and when the man lifted his foot the avatar spun his around and i still dont know what the bottom of its shoe looks like. that said both are still in development and sonys moved right as there guy did without a second of delay and could logicly be used in any game. but natal uses your body and there are games where characters jump like 10 feet and do all sorts of spins and flips in the air stuff i cant do so the only games that it could do well is gimmicky bulls*it
which means that microsoft is legging behind the compition trying to be the next wii but why? the wii isint that good also it called me fat so im just mad it the wii has a good game here and there and the ps3 will hold me over till zelda but thats off topic
anyway yea the wii sucks xbox sucks ps3 rules all natal will fail

Ae E3 Microsoft were heavily advertising a rockband product.
Microsoft previously had a 6 month exclusivity on a rockband product.
Can you not make that connection??
Coorporate deals are not always about a big cash sum and nothing else.
I'm 100% sure Microsoft footed the bill for creating the promo, and the massive payouts for Ringo and Macca (Had to be at least $1mil each).
For those of us who spend a little more time in the real world and get news from non gaming sites, the reuniting of the remaining beatles (And Yoko) actually made real world headlines.
In every UK paper and every news station this is what made the news.
There was no mention of Final fantasy 14 or Project Natal in the papers the next day. (I looked, and was dissapointed)
This gave the product more exposure than would have been possible through a traditional advertising scheme, and would have gone some way to paying for the 6 month exclusive.
(As a side note, all of the rockband/beatles articles stated that the beatles were reuniting to launch a new xbox 360 game, no mention of ps3 despite the game being multiplat. killer advertising for microsoft)
Also, your point about Walkman only falling off because of "Mp3 distribution" is ridiculous.
Sony were the kings of personal music devices and they just didn't get on the mp3 bandwagon quick enough. And when they did the ipods killer marketing had already blown them out of the water.
They focused more on the minidisc format which had a very short life.
Everyone here agrees sony products are fantastic, and above the competition in most areas.
Everyone here will also agree though, That Sony's marketing and pricing sucks. And thats why playstation has fallen behind.

1. ur opinion of a RB business tie in is valid but a little off should we make that the reason sony showed AC2... their once exclusive deal which vanished due to xbox 360 popularity, can you see how rediculous that sounds?
2. sony marketing is bad but in abad economy worldwide and a "failure" of a system to sell over 10 million consoles a year is succesful no matter how u slice it. remember sony is usually the leader at some point in most medium of entertainment distribution but have a history of not progressing unless pushed, and god bless microsoft for knocking them off a cliff and see games evovled on a connective scale. ipod did the same with walkman since it was like sony expected cd's to live forever as did ninty with cartridges. I truly think no matter how ps3 advertises their price is the hinder but it's not over priced, a game console that's so powerful that originally sony had a linux OS to make ps3 a home cpu as well. ps3 is like a clearance priced alienware all this was said or marketed before the console hit stores. but no matter it seems to you sony can't survive as the underdog... but mark my words as E3 showed games talk and when the all cried out price cut comes all nay sayers will be buying

Then that's not too shabby of a failure I'd say!!!!
And in the end, the PS3 will take the same sales track as the PS1 did, starting slow & building momentum until it's sitting on the top of the consoles charts.
And in the same exact way that the PS2 did!
And in the same exact way that the PS3 will!
The glorious history of Sony's innovative consoles will "ALWAYS" continue to repeat itself, over & over & over, again & again, and again!!!
