Gran Turismo PSP Not Affecting GT5 Development Cycle

While it was clear that Sony wanted to put the emphasis on the new Gran Turismo PSP at their E3 press conference, don't think for a second that it will interrupt the design cycle of Gran Turismo 5.

According to Softpedia, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has clearly stated "that the teams working on the games are not influencing each other...the schedule for the main title will not be affected in any way by the development and release of the game for the PSP Go!." He did say that the team handling the portable version of GT certainly gained plenty of valuable experience, especially concerning the difficulty of making a game like GT look fantastic on such a small unit as the PSP Go!. As for Microsoft's recently announced Forza 3, Yamauchi doesn't believe it's a threat to GT5 simply because the two games are targeting different markets, and he also doesn't believe that the onslaught of arcade racers with power-ups and whatnot will cause fans of simulators to disappear. Well, perhaps Microsoft should take some notes: this is the proper way to go about addressing a competitor; you don't sling mud for no reason, and let's not forget that in this particular situation, it's Yamauchi who has all the right in the world to make such comments.

Anyway, we're none too happy with Microsoft's recent boasting, and you can read all about in a couple articles you will find on the main page...they're tough to miss.

I hope they release GT:PSP and GT5 at the same time. They are supposed to be able to interact with each other so why not?

That would be awesome to start a race series on the PS3 and do races 1 and 2 at home and then do races 3 and 4 on lunch break at work, How cool would that be.

As long as you can unlock cars from one system to the other, please release both this fall Polyphony.

From a completely business perspective, it'll be tough to release GT PSP and GT5 at the same time. While they are designed to interact with each other to some extent, they risk stealing each others' thunder. And given the fact that most people nowadays don't do their research, most will just dismiss the PSP version as a hackneyed version of it's big brother on the PS3. Certainly not good, at least to me. Besides, didn't it say that the PSP game will unlock some stuff on the PS3 game? So why not just play the PSP game first then unlock everything later once Gran Turismo 5 comes out on the PS3? Just a thought. What do you think?

I believe that in a round a bout way that it does have an affect, because Polyphony has already said they could release GT5 whenever they wanted, and I believe they are holding back, at least partly, so they can release GT psp along with psp go because right now psp go and GT psp are their main focus. Not the ps3!

I'll be honest with everyone, I haven't play GT very much. I do know (based on my experiences with GT4) that it's really good. I'll give the PSP one a try, and if I like it, then GT5 is on my list. Along with keeping GT PSP too lol

GT5 & Forza 3 may have differences, but I still think GT5 will DESTROY Forza 3, no matter how different the two games are.
