Prototype PS3 Install Causing Issues, Patch Incoming

If you're lovin' inFamous - and really, aren't we all? - you should probably consider purchasing Prototype, which once again gives us the chance to play as a bad-ass modern-day superhero.

But if you buy the PlayStation 3 version, you may run into a small problem. You have to install a portion of the game and some users have encountered a glitch where the system tells you there is "insufficient hard drive space," even when there's plenty of room. The good news is that Activision has already recognized the issue and they plan to release a patch to the PSN "shortly." In the meantime, Team Prototype has provided us with a quick fix-it technique that should allow you to install the promising action title. You just need to change the available space on your hard drive by 700MB; if you don't want to click the link, here are the ways you can go about doing this:

Installing or uninstalling another PS3 game that allows hard drive installation.
Downloading game demos.
Removing downloadable content.
Adding / removing MP3's or movies from the hard drive.

They add that you "may need to try a combination of any of the above suggestions" before Prototype manages to install to your PS3, but hopefully, it won't prove too problematic. We've been hearing some good things about the game thus far - GamePro gave it a 4.5 out of 5 and IGN gave it a 7.5 out of 10 - so we hope the team will get that patch up on the PSN soon.

yay im the 1st. this game looks mediocre. wannabe inFAMOUS??? When i went to preorder inFAMOUS the Gamestop tool told me to get this one too but get it on 360. I said no thanks. I suppose it could be good, but i just dont trust multiplatform games these days. Especially from devs unknown to me. if this install glitch is any idication why.

The game looks badass at the very least. You have to admit that turning your arm into a giant sword-thingy is awesome. I want it to be good, but I don't know yet. My friend is buying it today, so I'll go watch him.

This never would have happened on the PS1/2... I uber pissed at the PS3, it doesnt even read PS1/2 or DVDs now, all its good for now is bashing someone over the head with.

I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic there or not, but... Maybe the problem would never happen on a PS1/2 because there were no game installs on those systems (with very rare exception). Furthermore, if you got your PS3 at the right time, you WOULD be able to play PS1, PS2, CD, DVD, Data Disks, PS3, and Blu-Ray, all of which make this a very satisfying system to own. Lastly, it seems to me that this kind of problem lies with the software moreso that the hardware. They should have made sure there were no problems like this to begin with. but, either way, there is a fix in the works so all is well.

But hey, if you want to go bash people over the head with your PS3, go ahead. You can always blame it on violent video games later!

Yes, You did understand at all, i know PS1/2 games dont have installs..... I was pointing out the fact that we would get s*** like this on PS1/2 games.

I did get a 60GB PS3, first it stopped playing Blu-rays/PS3 games and now it cant play PS1/2 and DVDs.... and i refuse to pay £150 just to get a replacemtn which cant play PS2 games.

I got prototype yesterday evening. I had the install problem when I got home and quickly called activision. I think it was the first time in history that an automated voice recording helped me fix the problem. All you have to do is delete the initial install file in your game data folder and retry. It's only a setup file of a few KB, not the actual game install (as it will not go that far) I was about to become uber pissed. As far as a wannabe infamous, this game was in development before infamous was so you can throw that argument in the trash. Don't judge something until you give it a try. I tried the infamous demo and did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Prototype seems to be right up my alley though. It gives you a taste of alot of your powers before it strips you of them Metroid style. Lemme just say that when you can do a people's elbow to a tank, all things are good. The game is very smooth, the story is very interesting, and it's quite possibly one of the goriest games that I've seen yet. So I don't wanna be hearing any crap, k?

I got the game yesterday and I'm sorry it is not as smooth as you would like others to believe. Don't get me wrong this is a good game but there a a couple of issues I have found with it. One thing is when you are on the ground everything looks great but up top is when everything is less impressive. Just little things like that but you did say this game was in development before Infamous.

Who cares if its been in development longer than infammous? Doesnt make it a better game. Ask 360 owners if Too Human was the best game they ever played

So far i am enjoying the game but not as much as infamous due to story, graphics and gameplay amongst other things. I thought some of the buildings in infamous can look a little bland but after playing prototype, things in infamous looks even better.

For it to be in development for a longer period of time, id expect it to look better.

Fun game though but not something id normally buy, if you can rent it or wait for the bargain bin, do so and use the extra money towards something else.

I liked the inFamous demo just enough to buy the game but once I started playing the game it was clear the demo was only a very very very small representation of how the full game plays out. I'm really getting into it. Prototype looks fun but more of a rampage/fast action sort of affair whereas inFamous seems like it may be a bit more cerebral (though not having played prototype yet I can't pass final judgement). But if you even remotely liked the inFamous demo I'd say you'll love the full game (though maybe not of course).

I didn't say that being in development longer made it better. I said that it wasn't a wannabe game. Some wannabe games turn out to be pretty good though. Saints Row 2 is a good example.

Yeah, I can't decide if I want to buy Prototype or not. I mean inFamous was an easy choice because it's PS3 exclusive so I know it will be great.

Speaking of technical issues does anyone here use firefox and having an issue getting logged out when you try to view an article? I constantly have to log in and go to a thread with a 60% chance of having to repeat the process and even sometimes when it says I am logged in I will go to post a comment and I get the error that I must be logged in to post. Anyone else having this issue or is it an isolated incident? Sorry to hijack the article.

All the screenshots & vids that I've seen so far make Prototype look like it's a winner, including his morphing abilities becoming the person he consumes, or the monster he can also become.
Anyway, here's to hoping it's a good game.

BTW, it seems GameStop paid some bucks to the Prototype people, cause in the videos,a GS store's is inside the game, & Alex makes one of his leaps off their wall.
And in another area, a graffiti wall is spray-painted with GS's motto "Power to the Gamers" too.

X-Play just gave PROTOTYPE a 4 out of 5 today, so at least they (usually considered anti-PS3 by many) think INFAMOUS is better (5 out of 5).

-Return Prototype to the retailer you purchased it from
-Buy Infamous

Just get over it, Infamous is a better game to some of us. I have played both and Infamous is a lot smoother and so far the story telling IMO is told in a better manner.

Also, reviews are based on everything not just gameplay which is why Infamous so far received better reviews than Prototype.

A friend of mine just finished playing the inFamous demo and it's a pretty good game. I'll have to check Prototype tho. It seems like the opinions are everywhere. And that's not a good thing in this gen of gaming.

I got the game. It worked fine. Not only that the gameplay is super crazy awesome. Those of you not getting it because it is not exclusive can miss out.(Yes I played infamous and I love it still)

I bought bolth Infamous and Prototype and although I have played only some of the inFamous demo I'm well on my way through Prototype. I gotta say they are bolth awesome. Prototype is far more fast paced and hack n slashy though. They bolth play very differently. Prototype is a brawler and Infamous is a shooter. Infamous requires more thinking in the fighting as well as the locomotion. You can't jump a hundred feet into the air or run up walls so you have to look for hand-holds and powerlines to ride. In the fighting if you jump right in you get killed. You gotta be more strategic. In Prototype there is basically no defensive manuevers in the fighting and you just run and smash people. The strategy is more in what form to take when you do it. In my opinion, getting around in prototype is more fun because you just jump and glide from building to building and mastering the jump/glide/mid air dash technique to get going as fast and far as possible is an absolute blast. Gotta play em' bolth, but I figured I'd play prototype first because it is just so damn fun right now.
