Quantum Theory Is A Shooter "That Only Tecmo Can Make"
When people talk about all the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusives, too many forget about Tecmo's Quantum Theory...and it's not something they should forget.
Initially, the comparisons were inevitable: because it's a third-person shooter that apparently utilizes a cover system - like most all titles that fall into this genre - everyone began comparing this PS3 exclusive project to Epic's Gears of War. In fact, over-anxious Sony fans have been wanting to kill Quantum Theory the "Gears" killer, but that may be more inaccurate than they know. According to Gaming Union, Tecmo localization producer Peter Garza addressed the subject at hand:
"Yeah, everybody compares it to Gears of War (laughs). Obviously it's a sci-fi third-person shooter and we have a big guy for a main character. What we're trying to do is make a third-person shooter that only Tecmo can make. We know action games. We have Ninja Gaiden, so we're trying to incorporate some of that action game feel into third-person shooters."
Man, if they're going to try to somehow incorporate the blinding speed of a Ninja Gaiden into the slower-paced third-person shooter style, we could get something pretty damn special. But as of now, details remain a little thin on the project, and all we know is that Quantum Theory is scheduled to launch some time next year. But we can't wait to uncover more info so we can get a nice close look at this bad boy; we have plenty of faith in Tecmo, so we'll be very interested to see more of this particular exclusive.

Oh Yeah!!!
Karosso, Please reference Gears of war with GeOW initials because it hasn't earned the GOW initials. Those initials still belong to God of War.

I hope they will release a demo for this. Because this is a genre that a developer can easily screw up and get it completely wrong.

I love Gears 2, in fact its the reason I got a 360 just recently, that and because all my friends could only afford 360s meaning that I have to play 360 in order to play with friends (this is because PS3 is 699 and 360 is 399 in Australia. $300 price difference, not $100! Damn you Australian trade market, unfair ratios and no free import/exports!!!)
Anyhoo, I just want to say that I would enjoy DOA a whole lot more with the PS3 directional pad than with the crappy round plastic piece of crap that Microsoft calls a directional pad. Tecmo does make good games and I wish for a DOA on PS3...
DID YOU HEAR THAT TECMO?!?! A DOA ON PS3 PLEASE!!!!
My point of this statement is that Tecmo's vision is quite different from Epic's, so comparing Quantum to Gears is like comparing Killzone to Modern Warfare 2. They both have very similar structure, ie. 1st person shooter, but deliver on different aspects. Gears is grittier, slower and Westernised, while Quantum will appeal to Japanese and Western audiences with mixed Gears and Ninja Gaiden gameplay elements.
Does anyone here agree with me?
Does anyone think of Quantum as a JPN version of Gears or something different completely?
If it is a Gears clone, I really do hope they put their best into it cos Gears is THE top game for 360, which means it's a franchise up their with Halo and MGS.

Its the directional pad for the 360 controller that I hate. So please, no need for negative replies or fanboy bashing.
Here's my general overview
PS3 - Love it
360 - Very good, but some problems early on
Wii - if it weren't for Mario, no way
PS3 controller - Like, but Sixaxis needs refinement
360 controller - like, except the directional pad, PLEASE RELEASE THAT NEW CONTROLLER SOON MS!!!
Wii controls - innovative, but often unnecessary, eg. Mario Kart

The fact is that the artstyle of Quantum borders on Art Nouveau crossed with some nice revival gothic-something way in advance of anything Epic have tried artisyically with the only worry on this score being that the backgrounds could get depetitive all being inside the same living tower(again a difference to Gears).
There's a chick too! And one that your mate won't have to kill just to shoehorn in some out of place emotion before returning to "gotta kill 'em all!" mode! Some of the moves where you and Feleena interact look like being really slick as well as very quick-another thing Gears doesn't attempt.
They took what Gears already stole from Kill/Switch, a hulking lead and dark imagery and that's about it. Tecmo had to say that Gears was an influence but if people can't see that this game is going to be very different to Gears from the little we've seen than I worry about general perception.
