inFamous: Fastest Selling PS3 IP, In Top 5 For Exclusives

We'll be 100% honest with you, because we're men at PSXE and we can admit when we're wrong: we didn't think inFamous would be the smash success it has turned out to be. But everyone, myself included, has really responded.

According to some numbers by VGChartz and the NPD, as summarized at PS3Center, it turns out that Sucker Punch's excellent new IP has made a huge impact on the sales charts. In its first week of availability, the game managed to sell around 176,000 copies, which easily eclipses that of LittleBigPlanet (110,000) and MotorStorm (107,000). Bear in mind, though, that we're talking about IPs so games with a number in their titles don't count. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, for example, sold over 400,000 copies in its first week, and this year's Killzone 2 (and last year's Resistance 2) topped 300,000. But even so, inFamous has indeed made a tremendous impact and Sony should be satisfied with the early results. Although we can always scream about quality over quantity, sales numbers are the ultimate reward for a designer's hard work, and in this case, it's well deserved. There are a few titles on that list that we believe should've fared better, but have no fear, something like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is recognized everywhere as a class-A game.

But really, I don't wanna write about it any more. I'm on the second island, I've achieved Hero status, and the Warren is 60% complete. More missions to do...more missions...must go...

I didn't try the demo but the game is definitely addicting as Ben says.

The game is a little repetative with side missions but what game isn't? I bought this game based mostly on the hype, which I don't normally do the only one I can think of being GTA IV but unlike the former... this one turned out to be a good buy well worth the money.

If you are unsure definitely rent it... or buy it used at gamestop and return it within 7 days to get credit back to buy another game.

Something about zipping across power lines, hovering through the sky when you're off the power line, doing a thunder drop and then blasting everyone away with grenades just never gets old. I skipped the demo, and besides some of the robotic talking animations, I LOVE the game. If not buying, at least rent.

don't know but I know Prototype is reviewed as a good game that could've been great. The graphics are sub-par. The city design blah. And the "pop-in" is so bad it effects the gameplay.

Sad, really. I really wanted this game to prove my doubts wrong.

I bought infamous, rented prototype and I thought prototype is in some ways half the game infamous is-because prototype only lets you be the evil bastard (more of an anti-hero), while infamous gives you a choice. That is a gross generalization, and maybe partly colored by the fact that I played infamous first, but I thought infamous was more fun. Now, I don't hate prototype, because it is addictive (I played non-stop for 4 hours yesterday-till 5am) - it's definitely worth a look, but the sub-par graphics, learning curve, confusing and weird controller mapping for some combos and the fact that you're actively encouraged to kill innocent bystander to get health and escape the military (I prefer the hero's path in a game :D) make me give it a lower grade than infamous.

inFamous is such a solid IP. I really am impressed with the interaction between the people just walking around and the main charter. I know that Sucker Punch did take the time to refine and touch-up the game 4-5 months ago. I know Arnold (or maybe Ben) pointed that the controls and the visuals needed it when they did the preview. Which did get addressed. I know that sandbox games have small bug/glitches and not the best graphics.

I guess that theres a glitch or sum'en that annoys you to the point that you had to knock the game. What was it? Either that or you're a natural skeptic/pessimist and nic-pick at everything.

You're not talking about the climbing mechanic? And how it seems like Cole sticks to ANYTHING at times, are u?

No no, I'm not that type of person! Believe me when FF comes out I will praise it as if it's my son playing some sport (I don't have a son).

In terms of Infamous several times I got stuck on the corner of buildings and once I fell through the ground. On top of that was the pop in. I know these aren't big issues but when I find out from several sources that Sony rushed the game by a couple months I tend to believe a few of these complaints could have been addressed. They didn't take away from my overall enjoyment of the game but still it is a minor gripe.

Yes, I've also noticed bugs, particularly some clipping issues between characters and environments. Citizens dropping to their knees in despair, but their head goes straight through a railing/wall. Having only played the demo, I have to say that Sucker Punch knocked one outta the park. It's a simply fun romp. It reminds me a little of Crackdown more than anything else and that's a very good thing. If ever there was a game that I think would have done well on the PS3 it's that one.

The other point about Infamous that I wanted to touch upon is that I always applaud new IP's selling well. I like it when gamers try something new instead of the tried-and-true. Especially when the game is as good as Infamous.

In my opinion, the best thing about the PS3 thus far has been Sony's commitment to bringing out new IP's alongside the established franchises. It's something that Microsoft could learn a thing or two about. Halo and Gears are great, but there's precious little else coming from MGS. In the end, it'll bite 'em in the ass.

The PS3 is my favorite console right now, but if you havent played any of the games on Wii yet. Its worth the 250. Especially for Twilight Princess. What the Wii lacks in graphics it makes up for it in the fun factor. Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess are great and the Metroid Prime Trilogy is coming out soon. PS3 is better but the Wii is great too. Better then a 360 at that. ive had my Wii since launch. I used it a lot and it still works great.

I own a PS3 and a Wii. I'm not going to say that the Wii is better than the 360, but there are enough hardcore games on my PS3 that I don't need a 360. It's hard enough to find the time to play all my PS3 games, so I could really care less about the M$ exclusives.

The Wii is just a different experience altogether. Comparing the Wii to the 360 is like comparing apples to buttsex.

But in choosing, i would prefer to own a Wii over a 360. The 360 just doesnt offer anything the PS3 cant. Halo, Halo, Halo and more Halo. No thanks.

97%? You might only need to do the final mission to complete it... or, just wander around in the section that is still under the gangs control.

If you do the last mission and you're still missing something, you can always go back. You can move freely between the 3 islands towards the end of the game.

Why do you all hate AC so much? I got it a few days ago aswell really cheap after seeing the second one at E3. I can see the first getting repetitive, but i like how the fighting works and the free running is pretty good aswell!

if you like Assisans Creed you should like this. There was just too many flaws in AC. Pop in, tearing, frame dips etc. Ubisoft is known for making bug ridden games. AC and inFAMOUS are two different games, but if you want to compare then as "open world" games, inFAMOUS is much better and better made. Theres a little pop in and minor frame rate dips but nothing close to the issues in AC.

I thought it would feel repetitive, but even when you do the same kind of missions it doesn't come off repetitive. They throw so many enemies at you, your to busy to get bored. Also I'm not a huge fan of most sandbox games like GTA, but inFamous feels fresh compared to most. It's good enough that when I think I'm only going to play for an hour it turns into three. I'm a pretty big skeptic when it comes to this format of games
and was pleasantly surprised with inFamous. Hope this helps and nice Bleach avatar by the way.

To be fair to you, I was going to state my dislike for AC and GTA, but I had no idea people were bashing AC so badly in the other comments. Like I said I do not care for most games of this format. I simply found a better way to make my point in a more appropriate way. Since I do like inFamous that should be a strong testament to how good this game is, being the skeptic I am about this type of game.

I left AC out, because Alienange enjoys AC and I found my original comment to be disrespectful to something he enjoys. I love Dynasty Warriors, but the majority of people don't. Does that mean it's wrong for me to like it? Hell no!
If someone enjoys a particular game we should respect their opinion and try to make our points without disrespecting the games they enjoy. No one will want to listen to your opinion when you disrespect theirs, so it ends up rendering your opinions pointless. AC is actually a very well made piece of software no matter which way you slice it.
It's just not my cup of tea.

I thought Uncharted was great. it was possibly the best looking game in 2007. but its not with its own issues. the screen tearing was annoying and some control issues kept it from being a perfect game. Ive been playing the Uncharted 2 beta and these issues seem to have moslty be iron out. the controls is the most noticable improvement. they feel much tighter and responsive.

Not to be critical, but you sure like pointing out the flaws of every game. Personally, I can agree with most of your comments because I have yet to play a game that was not without its flaws. However, I'd much rather focus on what's being done RIGHT than the minor imperfections of every game.

That being said, Uncharted did everything right, and as of right now, is the most enjoyable and rewarding game I have ever played. As far as controls, I disagree and believe them to be incredibly responsive. I'm sure that anyone who has beaten the game on crushing would agree.

No worries. Your absolutly right. No game is without flaws. However, the flaws i found on Uncharted did kind of hurt the experience for me. Screen tearing is a huge pet peave of mine. It gives me a head ache. Strains the eyes. the controls weren't horrible, they just didnt seem to do what i wanted them to do i suppose is a better way to put it. I found it hard to get the character to execute what i intened. When trying to get away from the wall i almost always end up jumping out in the open or taking cover against a wall thats facing the enemy unintentionally then die. Maybe i just suck. lol but in playing Uncharted 2 they seemed to have made them more fluid.

Other then that Uncharted was a fantastic game and Uncharted 2 is sure to be better. I have to say though, The controls for MGS4 have been the best that i have found, and going back and fourth from MGS4 to Uncharted is a bit jarring.

i have noticed that the best games that gamers like nearly always get average reviews from the mainstream mags and sites, why is that?
is it because the reviewer puts his own personal tastes and wishes on the games and scores it badly because it doesnt live up to his high expectations? if so then that is wrong, i think a game should me scored on its playability and fun factor!
i read a review for infamous today in psm3 and it gave it a score of 71 and said the game overall "fun in places, but an uneven fusion of mostly familar ideas"
and even the first paragraph of the review attacks it from the start so to me that seams like the reviewer hates it from the word go and wants every1 else to hate it!!
people like him lose buyers as i for 1 wont be buying that mag again because when i read a review i want an unbiased and fair review, thats why this site is the best for reviews because in the past the reviews have been spot on
"ends rant"

You make a good point. I tend to come back to reviewers whose opinions I share. If your review knocks a game I love, and you don't make a strong argument as to why you hate it, then your opinion is rubbish to me.

This isn't true at ALL. The best-reviewed games are almost always the most popular. Go down the list of the top 100 best reviewed games of all time and see how many you can find that weren't massive sales successes. I'd say you might find 2 or 3.

That's a huge testament to the fact that gamers pay attention to critics, and at the same time, that many of the top critics know what constitutes quality in a game.

u focus too much on screen tearing and gimmicky controls for a guy who loves the wii
good games on the WII ??? again really!!!!!!
zelda is better on the gamecube(i have a gamecube) mario is gayyyyyyy(and not the old definition noooooo)i really belive that mario is a gay mofo who was designed by a gay guy on shrooms(no hate here just my opinon)

i advised that guy to get a 360 cause he was talking about RPG'S and wheather u like it or not the 360 has the best RPG's yet so yeah
360 is better than the wii
and AC is one of the best games ever, little repetitive i'll give u that but can u name a game that isn't????

I wouldn't call prototype crappy, but its very unfocused and unpolished compared to infamous. Plus I get an also-ran feeling from it, because I played infamous first.
I totally agree on the moral choices in infamous- I've never felt such a responsibility to NPC's ever since Mass Effect, and in this case you're responsible for not just a few squadmates, it's an entire city that's counting on you. One time I was trying to apprehend a dustman and I was firing lighting bolts at him and it missed and hit a gas station which promptly blew up and killed a few bystanders - I was so mortified walking past their motionless bodies, and especially with other NPC's gathering around them and then looking at me - never felt so guilty in my life!!
