GameStop White Knight Chronicles Release Date: March 1
While some of you were hoping to sit down and play White Knight Chronicles this year, we have more evidence that it simply won't happen.
During E3, we heard the promising PlayStation 3 exclusive RPG wouldn't release until Q1 2010 and now, GameStop has a new date for the game in their database: March 1, 2010. Now, you may say that's just a placeholder date - and it may be exactly that - but GameStop's launch dates aren't always out of whack. Take God of War III, for example: it has been listed in the retailer's computer as having a March 2010 release date for a looooong time...through all the rumors it might come out this year, through all the rumors that it might release earlier in 2010, that date never wavered. And lo and behold, at the end of that bad-ass gameplay demonstration at E3, it was revealed that GoWIII would indeed launch in March 2010. We don't like GameStop very much (sorry, not big fans), but you have to admit, some early dates they have are surprisingly accurate. And March does coincide with the Q1 2010 estimate given at E3, so we figure you should probably just accept it. Of course, if this is the case, the two games mentioned here would have to go head-to-head, and if so, we feel sorry for WKC.
But really, just get both, people. Just do it. The games are so different in just about every way; you know you'll want the best of both worlds.

They are giving the game a bit of an overhaul for the non-Japan release. It's getting a town builder, and all the extra mission DLC that's been release in Japan will be on the disc for the western release. I also read that they are trying to incorporate voice chat in the game, and apparently it will support cross region play, at least including NA and Europe.
I believe that they are nearly complete with respect to translating the core game, and I would guess that they have to do the translations on the mission DLC now as well, all that will have to be voiced.
It kinda sounds like we'll be seeing an enhanced version of the game ere when it launches. I wouldn't be surprised if they also launch an 'Ultimate Edition' style pack in Japan to incorporate all the improvements on Disc there as well (though I bet where possible t's patched via downloads.
Anyway, It sounds like the delay is due to extensive localization and enhancement.

Wow, no WKC until 2010? (If that's true) That's hard to believe, I thought it woulda been out already but um.. oh well, doesn't look like I'll have a PS3 anytime soon anyways. Mine is blinking red as of this morning. Tried everything I could think of and read a bunch of posts online about the issue. Finally I sent Sony an email and am hoping for something back within a couple days. Have a feeling it's going to cost me too much that I won't be able to afford it :P Had the system for 1 year and about 6 months (80gb model with b/c) stupid thing.
Okay, I'm done... umm... I've been looking forward to WKC for a very long time and It would be nice to play it before the year is over.

It's true you don't get your original system back, but it should be the same model of machine. Right? Even if it is a refurb.
Also, you definitely want to clarify with Sony what to do if you have already replaced your HDD with a larger drive. I'm not 100% sure what they do in those cases.

As for the HDD, I have also installed a larger drive and was told to remove it. Since I still had my old 60GB HDD, I reinstalled hoping to get a new drive with my replacement PS3 (which I did get).
I hope you were able to backup your PS3 game saves to something other than your HDD. Unfortunately you will not be able to retain the data. The PS3 will want to format the drive before allowing you to use it. Best thing to do is to transfer the files to your computer, run the format on the PS3 then copy them back over. It's a pain, but not nearly as much as losing your game saves.
@Highlander
Oh yeah, I made it clear to SCEA that I wanted the 60GB model. It was very important to me. They guaranteed that I would, and I did.

Correct - you are supposed to back get the same model you sent in - it just may or may not be your unit (I haven't gotten mine back yet and I've read conflicting reports about this on the web). The instruction sheet in the box they sent me claimed they were going to repair and return my unit, but we'll see.
As for HDD upgrades - you're supposed to send them the unit with it's original hardware. There's no place on the form for giving the repair depot special instructions.

My PS3 got fried in early march. Here are some tips/info:
-If you didn't back-up your data...its GONE.
-Sony replaces your Original PS3 SKU with a same refurbed SKU. (If u bought a launch PS3, you get a launch PS3).
-Took me about a week to get mine back, after sending it out.
-Also, if you've upgraded your HDD; tell them. U will be instructed to remove and keep it.
-When you get your PS3 back, be prepared to reinstall EVERYTHING: Game Data, PS3 firmware updates, Game updates, Downloadable games, etc.
That's about all I can think of. I lost about 2 months of game data, because that was the last time I did a back-up. Good luck.

I had the launch 60GB and they ruturned a different ps3 but the same SKU refurbished but I did notice that the fan was louder than normal on this one but not unbearable like the 360.
I also lost all my data and I had no way to back it up. Couldnt turn on Ps3, if i tried putting the hard drive into a different ps3 I heard it wouldnt be recognised so didnt bother trying, so back up your data if you can.
And also ring Sony instead of emailing them, its much faster.

I'm thinking that they may bring the slim PS3 model late this year - November/December and launch it with a new price, great fanfare, and of course Gran Turismo. What better game to make a re-launch of PS3 with? That's why I think GT5 on PS3 will hit the streets in 2009, in Japan at least.

How does the game look like a downgrade? It's a brand new game, not a sequel, how is it a downgrade? Good grief you're an impatient person, so impatient that you're essentially saying you won't buy it because they took so long localizing it. Is that really what you're saying? Really? I mean, really?

I'm playing Tales Of Symphonia: DotNW on the Wii to sate my RPG fix. I know Ben and Arnold aren't fans of the Wii but I find it to be a great change of pace.

If there is one disappointment with the current wave of JRPGs such as Cross Edge it's that they haven't taken advantage of the PS3 to render their characters in 3D. Of course, I'm well aware that the 2D sprites of games like Cross Edge are a particular style of game. However I can't help but wish that they'd been rendered more fully.

So in all those interviews in the past few months when the producers of the game said "coming soon" (one guy chuckled a little after saying it) they were really just toying with us. Little did we know that "soon" meant almost a year. I'm used to it taking an average of 4-6 months to localize a game, this was released Christmas last year in Japan, that's a period of 1 year 3 months for a localization.

Well I really couldn't get into Dark Cloud. Weapons breaking, running around to find the right item to repair them before their breaking point is a no go! Rogue Galaxy was awesome but the ending was a little weak. I'd still rather support Level 5 than Square Anus. I can only imagine the awesomeness of sequel to Legend of Dragoon developed by Level 5! *crosses fingers*

I swear, it's like somebody knows and they're intentionally trying to screw me over :/
Oh, and I know I'm part of a small minority on this, but if it comes down to 'White Knight Chronicles' or 'God of War III'...Sorry, Kratos...

By the time this comes out it will look old. I know it's not everything but it already looks about the same as FF12 and high-end as it maybe it's still last-gen. Coincidentally 12 was also the last rpg I've played thanks to this cursed drought.
6 months is bad enough, 15 months is just shameful.
