EA Is "Confident" That SHIFT Will Be Better Than Forza 3
Microsoft and Turn 10 are garnering a lot of attention - and catching a lot of flak - for promoting their upcoming simulation racer, Forza 3, so heavily. We at PSXE already ripped 'em a new one (sorry, but richly deserved) when I called them out and Arnold stepped on heads with his follow-up editorial.
But now, according to HipHopGamer, EA is stepping up and proving to be equally confident in their promotion. As Arnold mentioned in his piece, EA's Need for Speed SHIFT is looking (and feeling) fantastic, and in all honesty, many industry insiders feel it holds more promise than Turn 10's effort. For the most part, EA isn't really into soapbox rants that are blatantly designed to question the quality of the competition's titles, but this statement was probably warranted:
"I’m very confident we have a better game than them to be honest. Talking to the press, looking at the nominations, that’s clear. So, I’m glad that they’re confident but I’m as confident as they are."
Apparently, these words were spoken by an EA representative in regards to SHIFT vs. Forza, and it's yet another testament to the fact that Turn 10 may want to quiet down and simply focus on the job at hand. It's not like we want any game to fail - especially when it falls into one of our favorite genres - but at this point, we wouldn't mind if Need for Speed: SHIFT really did put Forza 3 in its place. I mean, we all know that Gran Turismo 5 will do the job, but this would just happen earlier.

It's nice to see NFS, taking a look at a new slice of the racing genre. But, given the turnaround time in NFS games (they're usually pretty quick about their sequels...you know?) I can't imagine that they'd have nearly as much factory/certified car information as what PD's been doing for the past 3 or 4 years.
Not that I would object to it, I just don't think it'll be as detailed. But, still, as I said, glad too see their taking an interest AND putting pressure on Turn 10. Always healthy to have some competition!!!! (But still, GT5 is what I'm waiting for!).
Btw, what's this GTR2 game? Now that I've got a PC that can handle such things, I may just take a look at that.

Hope Shift is better. It looks amazing and is said to be a full Sim based game, whereas I feel Forza 3 will be 50% sim with 50% arcade added to it just like FM2. If that's the case FM3 will fail.

That's rubbish, you can't talk yourself up as the best driving simulator and still have those sorts of things. If they try to make it more accessible while still giving a realistic experience to the car nuts then they'll end up having something that doesn't appeal to either group.

Does M$ have an inferiority complex? For awhile now their bark has been allot louder than their bite. Meanwhile Sony just lets their impressive lineup of exclusive games do all the talking...

Forza still looks cartoony as Bugs Bunny.
And the Forza 3 will still have... wait for it:
Bar/graph indicators showing the car's Speed, Handling and maybe Acceleration etc.
That's a pretty stupid thing to do for a 'simulator'. I mean, seriously?
And in all seriousness I still play Gran Turismmo 4 and I believe it still kicks Forza 2's ass!!!
My neighbour has Forza 2 on Xbox 360.
NOTE: I'm not sure my Forza 3 info is correct, can anyone confirm it?
Sorry if I got the wrong details ;)

Who knows whether GT6 will come out on PS3 or will be spearheaded for PS4? It is quite likely just as the PS3 came out 6 years after PS2, PS4 may follow that same pattern.
Knowing that 360 is gonna throw another console at the masses in probably another 2 yrs time, makes sense for Sony to ship PS4 shortly after. After all the PS2 is still doing well and coming close to the 10 yr lifecycle as promised. PS3 will have it's 10 yr plan as well while the PS4 is out.
IF Polyphony Digital spent 5 years on GT5 (receiving their PS3 development kits a few years before the PS3 shipped), it makes sense that work in a couple of years time or less could start on GT6 for PS4.
That's why I love GT and PD so much more than any Forza game. They put out a near perfect product by taking there time. Turn 10 takes a measly 2 years and say they have the best product that is gonna own everybody. What a joke.
Notice all the PS3 quality exclusives are more than 2 yr projects where as all the big game franchises for 360 take no more than 2 yrs to develop (I.E. Gears 2, Forza 3, Halo ODST, etc)? Think Alan Wake is the longest developed title and it doesn't look any better than any stellar PS3 exclusive.

Hey Ben and/or Arnold. Can you guys give your opinion on this:
Do you think the physics for Forza 3 will better than GT5 and SHIFT?
And what do you think the physics for Forza 2 compare (to something like GT5:P)?
I see a lot of people commenting on YouTube and other sites saying that GT is just pretty graphics and Forza has the better racing sim physics.

In all honesty, I would like to see NFS return to it's routes with arcade racers. The best games they ever made were the Hot Pursuits and Most Wanted. I'd like to see them again.

as far as GT5 goes. well that's on a class of it own no question there. I'd say let's wait for the games to come out & speak for themselves.
