2K Prepping New Multiplatform FPS IP
When a rumor breaks concerning a particular title, it's easier to deal with. But when a rumor come around pertaining to a game that hasn't been announced and currently doesn't have a title (as far as the media knows), things get infinitely trickier.
According to SKOAR!, 2K Games is currently working on a brand new IP for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. And apparently, "there is sufficient reason to believe" that it's being created by 2K Boston, the same team responsible for the excellent Bioshock. As shown by their current work calendar, they're preparing an unannounced FPS, and here's one of the position listings:
The Backend Multiplayer Engineer
"Responsible for delivering a robust, scalable, and responsive multiplayer gameplay code and backend services for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms."
We have no idea what the game could be, but as it's an IP, it really can't have anything to do with Bioshock. We also find it interesting that so many developers are willing to take on the challenge of producing a top-notch FPS, what with all the ridiculously stiff competition out there. We all remember what happened to Haze; it wasn't even that bad, but because it fell well short of expectations, it failed. 2K is a talented team, but then again, so was Free Radical... Oh well, we wish them all the best, and we really wanna know what this new game is. Stay tuned.

But there are certainly those who want a ton of shooters. Not me, though I own more than I would have bought if there were more AAA games from other genres this generation (available at bargain prices).
I didn't buy the Orange Box or Resistance 1 and 2 or Bioshock because they're shooters, but despite that fact; the same will be true of Killzone 2.

I'm not the least bit interested in COD MW2, MAG, or even BioShock 2. Not that any of them look bad, I just need a break from FPSs.

How about some decent platforming action? Or maybe a decent adventure game? Maybe a good RPG? What about an out and out arcade game? Time for devs to find a new darling genre, fps games are getting to the tired and emotional stage. Time for a change?
What we need is a software house with some patience to develop a good old fashioned RPG, turn based, JRPG style... ;-)
