Double Fine Replaces Dio With Tim Curry For Brutal Legend

Brutal Legend has been in the news often since E3, so we figured you'd require an update.

First, Activision Blizzard has made a claim to the game, as they've sued EA for the rights to Tim Schafer and Double Fine's latest project. In response to this, Schafer had a great reply... Secondly, during the Download Festival in the UK, 440 people came together to celebrate the greatness of Motorhead's metal classic, "Ace of Spades," via the time-honored practice of air guitar. They set the Guinness World Record for the number of people performing virtual simultaneous air-guitar (the previous record was 318, set last year). But the news doesn't end there. Now, as GameSpot reports, Schafer has confirmed that one of the godfathers of metal, Ronnie James Dio, is no longer involved in the production. Initially, he was set to be the voice for the evil Doviculus, but it seems Double Fine has found a better fit in actor Tim Curry. Said Schafer:

"Ronnie James Dio is an amazing singer and truly one of the great figures of Metal, but as the character of Doviculus evolved, we realized that [actor] Tim Curry was a better fit for the part. Anyone who has seen his amazing performance as the Lord of Darkness in the movie Legend knows why we cast him in the role of Doviculus, Emperor of the Tainted Coil."

As much as we love and respect Dio, we have to admit that he isn't an actor, and Curry most certainly is. His resume goes well beyond the cult classic days of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," and he should make for a great addition to the Brutal Legend cast. Hey, Schafer knows what he's doing.

The main reason I became interested in this game was because Jack Black voices the main character. He's perfect, that's all I can say.

They should hopefully have some of Dio's music in the game. Tim Curry I agree is a good actor. Plays some bizarre characters sometimes, but does a good job of it.

Im not usually one to nitpick, but Im pretty sure the "devil horns" sign is a Pagan symbol, (a few hundred years older than Dio).

I think this is a good move. Tim Curry is the man. He's played the devil in Legend, an evil alien in clown form in It, and the evil hotel manager in Home Alone 2! What's not to love?!

Yes it was Scary Movie 2. But other than Rocky Horror and Legend, I remember him mostly for playing Wadsworth in Clue, and the best Long John Silver ever in Muppet Treasure Island. Was interesting in Lexx too now that I think about it lol.

I hope Dio is still voice casting some part of this. I heard Rob Halford has a role in this game somewhere also.

I had my doubts on this game but the more metal gods they get involved makes me want to give it a go......sounding like fun now!

I love the Rocky Horror Picture Show, I think it's gonna be awesome to hear Tim Curry's voice as one of the characters.

Such a proud Englishman right now. The rest of the world must bow before our mass air-guitaring superiority!

Dio being in the game might have made me take a closer look beyond the sellout Jack Black.

Similar thing with the movie Year One: I might see it, but only because my cousin is a stand-in for JB.

As much as dio is a metal god it's hard to complain when you get tim curry. Legend is trippy thanks in large part to him, and he was one of the few ever to appear in lexx that can actually act.
Still I wish they cut rob halford instead, priest is highly overrated imo, almost as much as iron maiden. My top pick for an additional metalhead cameo, the more the merrier, is Rob Zombie, even if his newer stuff blows.
