No Face-Button Punching For Fight Night, Might Come As DLC
This is an interesting topic of conversation, primarily because it seems to split the gaming crowd directly down the middle.
As some of you know, several sports games make full use of the analog control on the Dual Shock 3 (and on past Sony controllers). They basically ignore the face buttons and focus on the analog sticks for any important maneuvers; take Tiger Woods PGA Tour, for example, where you swing by pulling back and pushing forward on the analog. Personally, I've always hated this mechanic, as I've never found it to be as pinpoint accurate as simply pressing a button at the correct time (ala Hot Shots Golf). The analogs simply aren't as perfectly accurate and in my mind, it doesn't make anything "more realistic." But some people still like it, and this is why EA retains this model for the Fight Night series, and it's going to stay that way for the fourth installment. EA's Brian Hayes addressed this very issue over at IGN's blog; he said:
"No, there is no such option for face button punching in the final version, but we are investigating providing the option via DLC."
He does say they have a "dedicated team" for downloadable content, which must mean they have a significant amount of content planned. From our point of view, we could really use that face-button control scheme; I personally know several people who just won't buy a Fight Night title because of the analog-only setup. But they love boxing, so if the face-button option showed up, they'd probably buy it. Just do it, EA.

I'm glad to hear they're keeping it, and I think it's good that they're considering adding face buttons, too, since more people will play it. But I really did like all the possibilities that came with all the ways you could move the analog sticks.
What don't you like about it? I thought it fit really well in Fight Night. With golf, though, I can see how that would be annoying.

The analog controls make it more fluid easier and realistic instead of just mashing away. I thought the analog was an awesome addition to tiger woods..Anyway people who want to use the buttons are the ones who didn't want or won't take the time to learn the analog controls. I had a friend like that and once he actually took his time to learn he noticed it was easier.

Thats my theory of why they did it even though I never complained about it. I just got better and learned how to beat players like that. If they do bring it back it will just as before. You mash the buttons you don't throw at full strength just as in Round 3. Only thing I have to get used to is the body punching as far as throwing hooks and uppercuts without holding L1 anymore. Different but I like it. Helps you pull of combos better and mix up your punches easier.

You just can't take out a control scheme as a option just because they are some people online that smash the X button all day.

When was the last time a developer said "Hey fans tell us what you want and we'll make it." Almost never. They try to implement or make changes from feedback. There are several games out there that you can't change the control scheme. So I say if you don't like it don't buy it.

The only major drawback I encountered was that it's making me buy another DS3, cause I got so fast & furious with my punching that I ripped the rubber cover right off my R/side stick.
Damn, I think I'll need to start taking a Valium or two before I fight, cause I can't afford to keep buying new controllers every other week.

No, no, no no, I probably couldn't do it on a WII at all
I'm afraid I'd break my TV(not to mention trashing just about every other damn thing too in my living room).
I guess then with a Wii, I'd really have to doing that a "EPIC FLAIL-URE" on my part. LOL
