Metal Gear Announcement Round-Up

Konami made it plain that we'd get several Metal Gear-related announcements this week, so in case you missed any, we've got the current round-up right here.

First up is the most recent, and perhaps the least surprising (as we had already heard about it several weeks ago). The original PlayStation classic that started it all, Metal Gear Solid, is now available on the PlayStation Store. You can pick it up for the price of $9.99 and, like most of these old games, it's compatible with both the PS3 and PSP. Also, and as reported by Examiner.com, Konami has opened up the Rookie Campaign in Metal Gear Online. For a set period of time, new players who open an MGO account will get the added benefit of 5,000 extra reward points, which you can use towards the purchase of some snazzy new gear and equipment. Rookies will also get a free copy of Codec Pack 1, so that's cool.

To recap, Konami announced the incoming Greatest Hits version of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (yeah, like we didn't see that one coming), and on Wednesday, they lifted the lid on the Shadow Moses MGO map, with the inclusion of Old Snake as a playable character. Now that we're all up-to-date, there's one final announcement to be made, and that should be coming soon...not sure if Konami counts Saturday as part of the week, but to us, it isn't. Anybody have any brilliant ideas as to what this last announcement will be...?

MGS4 getting trophies is the only thing I can think of.

Anyone got other suggestions that are more original and imaginative =D?

Agreed, it seems to be what people want the most, I just wish that it would see if I would have already got the trophie instead of haveing to do the same thing twice, I don't want to have to get that dredded big boss emblem again...ugh

Hmmm This is a toughy they've already announced 2 new MGS games one for multi and other for PSP. then MGS4 is now greatest hits and you can buy the orginal on PSN. I've got nothing the only thing i can think of is either trophies or maybe a beta coming sometime later this year for the MGSRaven game? couldn't tell ya.

Ah! So now those kiddos who couldn't experience MGS1 back in 1998 can get this GEM(masterpiece) from the PSN store.

PS: I want Meryl as a playable MGO character. That would so MAKE me play the online portion of it :3

Ico was the most emotional I have ever felt over a game, though I will admit I cried during Valkyria and FFVII because...well...I cry easily okay!!

And I am playing through FFX now. I haven't gotten to play many PS2 games. The only ones I played were the Metal Gears and God of War. Yeah, I owned a Xbox. *Continues with the shielding*

Hmmm....what could they do?! And I don't want to see any "OMG METAL GEAR SOLID 4 on 360!!!" stuff here since they would have made the so called "big announcement" at MS' press conference.

But probably trophies?

I got nothing but,

how about "Metal Gear Racing Extreme Plus". A game containing all your favourite MG characters in wakky racing carts in a show down to determine who is the greatest speed demon of them all! Each with their own customised carts, snake in a cardboard box, Otacon in a mini rex racer and Naomi standing on the side of the street whoring herself out as usual..... I'd play that :)

hopefully MGS 2 and MGS 3 coming to the PSN Store, they need to start putting PS2 games on there, especially if there not going to give us backwards compatibility, but I would like to play as Iroquis Pliskin, he's the NAVY S.E.A.L. you encounter on the oil rig right before the scene where Raiden meets Vamp for the first time: it's MGS 2. Oh, i'd also like to play as Otacon. We all know him. haha. just a few ideas.

@ midris I totally agree with you, it's the only game series that has ever gotten me emotianally involved in the story and the characters, like when Snake was about to kill himself, i almost cried. In fact, a movie has never done that to me or a book, it's just so well written.

you could easily download an emulator, and besides the PS3 has a better engind than the PS2, shouldn't be a problem.

Considering how well the PS2 sells right now, the chance that Sony will realese a PS2 emulator on the PS3 is pretty much slim!

But your right, it shouldn`t be a problem.

I really don`t need one, since I have the 60 gb verison:)

damn I die so fast on MGO and for some reason I need a lot of ammo to kill just someone...somebody can give some tips so I can enjoy MGO without die on 5 secs?
