Ubisoft: Splinter Cell: Conviction Is "Never" Coming To PS3
For the longest time, many were convinced that at some point during the delay for Splinter Cell: Conviction, Ubisoft would announce the switch from an Xbox 360 exclusive to a multiplatform title that includes the PlayStation 3.
Well, it ain't happening. It seems that Ubisoft has a touch of loyalty towards Microsoft, considering the "link of heart" they established between MS and the Splinter Cell franchise back in 2002 when the original first launched. It was certainly true that these games were better experiences on the more powerful platform of the time, and it seems Ubisoft is rewarding Microsoft for being such good supporters (or something to that effect). Here's the official statement they gave to VG247:
"Splinter Cell Conviction is a true Microsoft exclusive title and there are no plans to have Splinter Cell Conviction on other platforms.
There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities. At that time, Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a 'link of heart' between the franchise and the platform. Some games are like this (think of Final Fantasy for instance).
The second reason behind this choice is purely linked to production. Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even further, because we only have one type of - console - hardware to support."
Does anyone else find it funny that Ubisoft mentioned Final Fantasy? They say that FF has a "link of heart" between the franchise and the Sony PlayStation platform and yet, the next official installment will be on the Xbox 360 as well. So either Square-Enix needs to get with the program and understand this whole "link of heart" thing, or one publisher is taking advantage of millions more potential consumers while one is - against all business advice - putting loyalty ahead of potential. Man, this debate could rage for eons...
But either way, Splinter Cell: Conviction won't be coming to the PS3. ...guess our consolation is knowing MGS4 is, and will remain, a PS3 exclusive. ;)

I'm sure there will be a price cut this year so his comments will be moot.

but it makes no sense... you know how many ppl on ps3 play guitar hero, call of duty, and other Activision games! i bet my bottom dollar that a good number of their market share is made just from the ps3 alone... take that out of the equation, aswell as add this recession into the mix, and no console will have guitar hero or cod...

I fully agree with this. And because of this, it fully supports why SONY continues to crank out such quality titles along with third party titles such as Valkyria Chronicles. All consoles are going to get its exclusives so let's just fact it. So let's just be glad that SONY as a lot of the best quality exclusives because its on that console and that console alone.

A few of the big name games have flaws, but they are usually ambitious and extremely well made, especially those from Ubisoft Montreal.
Beyond Good and Evil
Splinter Cell 1 (2) & 3
GRAW 1 & 2
Prince of Persia 1-4
Rainbow Six
Assassin's Creed
I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch.
p.s. Note that what I said does NOT apply to their Wii games.

Ubisoft is a publicly owned company. Isn't their first responsibility to keep the money flowing?
Ubisoft is withholding a critical piece of information, that M$ has either "incentivised" them with money or threatened them with something else. Nothing makes sense otherwise.

Oh come on...
Are you saying Kojima is allowed to love a console but Ubisoft isn't??
Maybe, just maybe they're telling the truth.

Bad simile, Ubisoft. U fail again just like AC1, Haze, and that hella boring E3 conference. If u wanna make it up to us but also wanna stick to this "link of heart" creed, - take a play outta Rockstar's book - make the existing IP (Splinter Cell) multiplat, and make that new IP (I Am Alive) exclusive to M$.
Jeez Ubi...At least, R* knows how to launch new franchises (Agent) and max revenue for their established ones (GTA). U guys just fail again and again.

If they keep it exclusive to the XBox360 and don't use the same tired Unreal engine, they can create something really special that can push the X360 to the limit. It will never look as good as the best PS3 games but, will surely be better than anything else on that console.

I think MS needs some more exclusives as well so good for them. I might rent it and play it on my friend's Xbox when he goes away for work again...
That way i won't loose out too much.
