Ubisoft: Splinter Cell: Conviction Is "Never" Coming To PS3

For the longest time, many were convinced that at some point during the delay for Splinter Cell: Conviction, Ubisoft would announce the switch from an Xbox 360 exclusive to a multiplatform title that includes the PlayStation 3.

Well, it ain't happening. It seems that Ubisoft has a touch of loyalty towards Microsoft, considering the "link of heart" they established between MS and the Splinter Cell franchise back in 2002 when the original first launched. It was certainly true that these games were better experiences on the more powerful platform of the time, and it seems Ubisoft is rewarding Microsoft for being such good supporters (or something to that effect). Here's the official statement they gave to VG247:

"Splinter Cell Conviction is a true Microsoft exclusive title and there are no plans to have Splinter Cell Conviction on other platforms.

There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities. At that time, Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a 'link of heart' between the franchise and the platform. Some games are like this (think of Final Fantasy for instance).

The second reason behind this choice is purely linked to production. Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even further, because we only have one type of - console - hardware to support."

Does anyone else find it funny that Ubisoft mentioned Final Fantasy? They say that FF has a "link of heart" between the franchise and the Sony PlayStation platform and yet, the next official installment will be on the Xbox 360 as well. So either Square-Enix needs to get with the program and understand this whole "link of heart" thing, or one publisher is taking advantage of millions more potential consumers while one is - against all business advice - putting loyalty ahead of potential. Man, this debate could rage for eons...

But either way, Splinter Cell: Conviction won't be coming to the PS3. ...guess our consolation is knowing MGS4 is, and will remain, a PS3 exclusive. ;)

And before anyone starts bashing on Splinter Cell, bear in mind that I LOVE all these games and Conviction is a Day 1 purchase for me, regardless of the platform. ;)

I'd also like to buy it. 360 should have it, their running out of games, ps3 has enough on their plate,inFamous,KZ,Uncharted2,GoWIII,Heavy Rain,Agent, maybe even L.A Noire.....so yea 360 should have every last piece of SC.

I'm a big Splinter Cell fan. Even though I never liked the direction they've been taking with this one, I'm sad I won't be able to play it. Oh well, now that they fixed the controls of MGS, I guess I can just play MGS4 for my stealth fix.

It's historically been more stealthy than MGS, but the new one is Sandbox style... each level is a sandbox and you can choose if you want to go nuts on some fools or break some necks from the shadows. This is a day 1 purchase from me and I haven't done that in some time. The first three games are on PC and I think there is a collection set if I'm not mistake and maybe even some on Steam... I'm not sure.

Many see that as a bad thing, or scary. But, really, I'm no fan of Guitar hero, and W@W I play on my PC. 3rd party developers have a long ways to go before i'll ever buy one of their games for the PS3 again. They need to prove that they put $60 worth of effort into it. So far, they're sorely lacking.

Yea, just read the comments made by the CEO of Activision. He sounds really arrogant and ignorant for someone who charges $200 for a full instrument set for Guitar Hero. Not to mention, there are so many different version of Guitar Hero releasing in a space of few months, has got me really confused. Starting to think that they are trying to rip consumers off. Why can't they just release them through DLC, not like theres much changes to the game among the different versions

Mr. Kotick is just a blowhard. If he wants to bankrupt his company with "decisions" like that, go on ahead. If he wants to pitch his tent with MS, go on ahead. He won't. He'll look like an idiot if he follows through.

I'm sure there will be a price cut this year so his comments will be moot.

if activision pulls out of the ps3, then that means no modern warfare 2, or any sequels after that one!!! that would really suck, and imo, iw should find a new publisher if this ever happens...

but it makes no sense... you know how many ppl on ps3 play guitar hero, call of duty, and other Activision games! i bet my bottom dollar that a good number of their market share is made just from the ps3 alone... take that out of the equation, aswell as add this recession into the mix, and no console will have guitar hero or cod...

yea, also Capcom said this fiscal year they are expecting to make more money from the PS3 in software sales too. I dont understand this. I thought Sonys attach rate was higher then MS regardless of higher console sales?

well sony are the ones claiming this so...i dont know.

Attach rate is a percentage. The ps3 sells more games per console then the 360, but that dosn't mean that it sells more games total due to the deference in console numbers. And that's what people really care about.

I fully agree with this. And because of this, it fully supports why SONY continues to crank out such quality titles along with third party titles such as Valkyria Chronicles. All consoles are going to get its exclusives so let's just fact it. So let's just be glad that SONY as a lot of the best quality exclusives because its on that console and that console alone.

This has nothing to do with loyalty towards a certain console. It all comes down to who's giving out the most money and the greediness of developers. Loyalty means nothing in the video game business anymore, sadly. I'll always stick with my PS3 and I'll never support Microsoft but the fact of the matter is that Microsoft has a bigger pocket and developers are continuously becoming more and more greedy. These ongoing antics are what will eventually make me stop caring about video games and yes, it sucks.

Ubisoft's games are NOT usually average.

A few of the big name games have flaws, but they are usually ambitious and extremely well made, especially those from Ubisoft Montreal.

Beyond Good and Evil
Splinter Cell 1 (2) & 3
GRAW 1 & 2
Prince of Persia 1-4
Rainbow Six
Assassin's Creed

I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch.

p.s. Note that what I said does NOT apply to their Wii games.

Still Ubisoft is a multiplatform company, if they want one game exclusive, let em, we had MGS4 exclusive, we've had inFamous exclusive, we've even had Resistance exclusive, if third parties want to make exclusive games I say let them, it's there choice. But I think Sony really needs to think about that ;) and start attempting to buy some third-parties, Insomniac and Sucker Punch for instance...

If xbox wasn't funded (as in money pit) by microsoft there would be no "link of heart." xbox would have been loooooooong gone by now.

Imagine it... A one console generation...

Good thing all Xbox exclusives aren't really true exclusives. Copping this on PC just like Bioshock & Mass Effect.

Bad simile, Ubisoft. U fail again just like AC1, Haze, and that hella boring E3 conference. If u wanna make it up to us but also wanna stick to this "link of heart" creed, - take a play outta Rockstar's book - make the existing IP (Splinter Cell) multiplat, and make that new IP (I Am Alive) exclusive to M$.

Jeez Ubi...At least, R* knows how to launch new franchises (Agent) and max revenue for their established ones (GTA). U guys just fail again and again.

They didn't use the word "never" in regards to a PS3 version as you seem to indicate. They only said "no plans", that's not the same thing. "No plans" is used by lots of companies, even Sony, when eventually it does come true.

So the old series on xbox pushed the technical capabilities of the console. Just think what they could have achieved on the black beauty

How is this statement any different from the one made by Sucker Punch about InFamous?
If they keep it exclusive to the XBox360 and don't use the same tired Unreal engine, they can create something really special that can push the X360 to the limit. It will never look as good as the best PS3 games but, will surely be better than anything else on that console.

It's diffrent when it's a 3rd party developer who only makes PS3 games I guess

Well I guess that's pretty fair.... I don't mind. I love Splinter Cell but Double Agent wasn't quite what I expected it to be... Don't think I actually played it all the way through.

I think MS needs some more exclusives as well so good for them. I might rent it and play it on my friend's Xbox when he goes away for work again...

That way i won't loose out too much.

It's exclusive to Microsoft, not exclusive to the Xbox 360...

exactly why does every 360 exclusive have to use the unreal 3 engine.
IF M$ put there money into something better than the 50M for timed ex DLC, and put that money into makeing a new engine i think we could be seeing KZ2 quality graphics.
but 50 bucks says this will never hapen.
