Sony Offers More Motion Sensing Technology Info

Sony really wants developers to step up and deliver some interesting software for their new motion sensing technology. They also have a few new details for us.

According to Kotaku, this new technology, fueled by the new and drastically improved PlayStation Eye, is set to launch next spring, along "with a range of first-party and third-party content." They also say that most "any game," ranging from the most casual to the hardcore, has potential when combined with their promising motion sensing technology. The Eye accessory itself will actually come with a force feedback rumble and as an added bonus, Sony boasts that this controller will "work in tandem with the Eye's built-in microphone array for voice input and voice recognition." The only significant drawback at this point centers on the added power cost of the wand controller, but Sony says that they'll work to minimize the impact on SPU overhead and memory. Finally, there's the distinct possibility of combining the current Dual Shock 3 controller with the wand; there was the example of having the wand act like a sword and the DS act like a shield. That's kinda cool in our eyes, and we certainly remember how impressive the technology was during Sony's E3 press conference. We gotta try that.

We don't yet have an exact launch date and price for this nifty new accessory but we'll give you that info as soon as we get it.

Heavenly Sword with this would be amazing......

Such a great game! Would be really interesting to have this in that game.

Yes ..yes! gimme gimme. I want to hold my controller in my left hand, and the new one in my right as a sword or ...something! That would be really fun, but ...I think it would be perfect for a very high quality Oblivion type game. I can think of plenty of amazing game ideas (if done absolutely right) that I would LOVE to play. *crosses his fingers*

The thing I don't see working with the motion controller (with swords anyways)is that when you swing and hit something in REAL life you get feed back like you sword may bounce off. In video games (is it cool to say vidya games?) you swing and hit something and you sword bounces off but your real arm keeps going. See where I'm going with this? (maybe I have not idea where I'm going but in my head it sounds right)

They could make it vibrate for the feedback. That would be pretty cool and make it a bit realistic. And if someone hits your shield it could vibrate the dualshock like it would in real life. Now that would be really sweet. :)

Well you'd swing your sword and it would stop on the game, but if you wanna keep going with the follow through ..go ahead lol no matter how hard you swipe your sword would be stuck grinding against another sword ...but it would however show that you're pushing with more force ..eh ..eh?? awesome

I thought he used a second wand to act as the shield, not the ds3
but anywayz, i still need to see how this is going to play out with non-casual games before i'm really interested.

Well they did use a second one, but I'm not buying a second one especially since they can just use the regular Dualshock3 as a shield or whatever

You know what, you're right ...since it won't have that colored ball thing, my bad. Second baton it is! Cuz then you'd be able to wield TWO swords :D

I hope they eventually make this technology wearable like a watch or a pair of gloves, and just use the motion of your hands.

Or a whole new 3rd generation Sony motion-sensing wrist-band later on too.

This sounds a lot cooler than I had originally herd. The voice recognition is a plus and it would be crazy if you could play a game using the wand and it rumbles while you are attacking or being attacked.

I would just love to be able to hack and slash in first person, press buttons on the "baton" (is that too gay?) to go through menu's and such as you normally would, or use items and spells.

You could use this in say ...an online version of Oblivion (my favorite example) and then use the microphone to talk back and forth between your partner, or maybe command a pet with your voice while you're swinging away with a weapon, you know? I think I would actually enjoy some really cool "inventive" type PSN games like Flower and such. Even though they are a bit more casual. Just as long as I don't have to get up and jump around :P That's not why 90% (just made that statistic up on the spot) play games...

This may sound odd but id like to see an RTS or an RPG with motion controls. Think about a turn based RPG/Action RPG where there is not command menu and you make simple movements or draw commands to use certain moves. Kinda like a console version of The World Ends With You only taken to a higher level. Ill admit im not big on motion controls but i might be warmin up to the ideal somewhat.

I bought one for PS3 that I used to use with LBP so... that should be the same one you'd use. All the magic would be in the software I think.

The DS3 does have the same motion sensing tech as the Wii's nunchuck...
