Tales Of Vesperia PS3 Gets Horde Of Exclusive Content
Role-playing fans had to wait a year for Eternal Sonata to make its way from the Xbox 360 to the PlayStation 3, and we certainly have to wait again for Tales of Vesperia. But in both cases, the wait is most definitely worth it.
The PS3 version of this solid RPG will feature some exclusive never-before-seen-content, and according to a recent Famitsu article (as found by ScrawlFX), this includes a new playable character, more opportunities to step into the shoes of Flynn, more Artes and skills, and a redone set of voice-overs. Recently, more info has been added: we've got a new Giganto monster, a new dungeon called "Inner Sanctum of the Ester," and oh yes, connectivity news concerning the upcoming Tales of Vs. for the PSP. As it turns out, the latter will be "connectible" with Tales of Vesperia; it will unlock fresh challenges, skits and costumes, so there's plenty of incentive to own both games. Vesperia should release some time later this year for the PS3 and we don't yet have an estimated release date for Tales of Vs., but we're hoping for some information on that soon. RPG fans can finally look forward to a number of great titles that should launch within the next year, and that also features the likes of Resonance of Fate, Last Rebellion, and Final Fantasy XIV.
And that whole connectivity thing certainly promotes ownership of both the PS3 and PSP (or PSP Go when it becomes available). You can probably expect more of this in the future...

Dude, you've never played an RPG with dice, a character sheet and pencil have you? RPGs are not live-action cosplay events, a good old traditional RPG is played with dice, character sheets and your imagination. Instead of dressing up and looking like a fool waving a plastic sword around, you get together around a table and use your minds.
I think this is kind of the divide in turn based vs real time combat in RPG games on consoles. Some people want to be in real time command of their character, some even want to handle things in first person, these are the folks that belong in funky costumes, running around waving toy swords at each other. Others though want to have combat determined by the stats, abilities, equipment choices and attacks selected. These are the folks rolling dice and using their imaginations.
They are two different ways of playing, that appeal to different people, neither is better than the other. I just don't understand why so many game developers think that the folks who liked turn based RPG games are going to evolve into folks that like action based combat in their RPGs. That's not going to happen.

The sequel to it is great too
Should be fun to see how this one turns out.
The Tales series has some really good games. Not EPIC like FFs, but GOOD nonetheless.
Definitely not a series rpg enthusiasts should pass up.
Can't wait to get my screenshots/trailers for this.
Oh yeah! Tales of Legendia was really good too, it had some good comedy going for it.

Let us not forget the last Tales that was ported from 1 console to another.. (Symphonia was originally on GC then ported to PS2, but never made it to america)
And so far Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 2 hasn't made it over either.
Though, I am excited, I probably won't hold my breath or anything waiting

Hate to double the bad news but I can't, for the life of me, see Tales.. coming to the west on PS3 either so the best we can ever hope for is a Chinese/Asian vesion with English subs. It's sales on 360 would suggest that bringin it to the west again is a waste of money.
Havng finished the pair of Persona's on PS2(well on my 60gig)last year I really don';t think anyuthing that's real current gen has been as good. Avery series seems to have gotten worse and the new IP have failed to excite much either-I finally got round to LO and IU on 360 the other week and, tbh, doubt I'll even finish them-I only just managed to get through Disgaea3(PS3) too!
VC apart I really haven't found anything that good this gen and the fact that Persona3 and 4 outshine them on last gen hardware says much. I'm looking forward to DS, mind, but I';m of the opinion that WKC will be no better than the 360 jrpgs this gen.
FF13 isn't going to be the best it could have been now either(no fanboyism it's purely that multis are inferior to exclusives on EITHER platfrom this generation)so I'm waiting for VS to be really wowed(esp as we don't seem to be getting KH3 either!).
I increasingly play jrpgs on the handhelds where games like TWEWY have been ignored among the slew of FF7 spin offs(which have been ok-I really like CC actually)but at least there's some quality there.
I'm going on again, I know, so sorry, but I really think that we haven't been getting the quality we deserve this gen on the Hd consoles let alone the way we PS3 gamers have been starved.

Of all the games that SE has published on 'next Gen' SO4 is probably the most logical candidate for a PS3 version. Consider how many players of SO games there are on the other Sony platform, the one with over 140 million customers. From a business point of view, a PS3 port of SO4 makes far more sense than porting TLR.

RPG sales on the 360 are not indicative of RPG sales in the western markets. PlayStation owners as a group are typically far more likely to purchase RPGs than owners of Xbox and Xbox360 consoles. It was true during the life of the original Xbox, and it's continued to be true today. Sales of RPGs on the PSP and PS2 show that there is an appetite in the west for JRPGs. The 360 does not necessarily represent those gamers. Making a decision on porting an RPG to PS3 in the west based on the dismal Xbox360 RPG sales is simply pointless.
