Modern Warfare 2: Specially Designed Mode For Co-Op
There was a time in this industry when "co-op" automatically meant two players. But things have changed drastically in the world of multiplayer gaming, and now, there really isn't any limitation (just look at the upcoming MAG).
However, Infinity Ward still believes two players is the sweet spot for cooperative-based gameplay. In a VideoGamer interview with the studio's director of communications Robert Bowling, we learn there will be a definite change in the co-op concepts between last year's Call of Duty: World at War and this year's Modern Warfare 2. In Treyarch's effort, we could participate in four-player campaign co-op, but Infinity Ward's new sequel won't feature a campaign co-op mode at all; instead, there's something entirely new: a two-player, specially designed Special Ops mode. It's "designed to be replayed over and over again," and Bowling said they didn't want to pollute the story "by cramming co-op into it." So, they just made a whole new adventure. Special Ops is "all about fun" with a friend and it'll be a completely new experience that is separate from the single-player campaign. And why not four players...? Bowling responds:
"Two player seemed to be the magic number for co-op. That’s when it stayed really fun and intense without becoming a clusterf**k of things. We just found that two-players was the most fun."
Well, that has the tendency to happen when too many people are trying to work together. Of course, we expect great things from the four player co-op in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, but we certainly respect Infinity Ward's way of doing things. A special mode designed for co-op definitely sounds like a plan, and we can't wait to see how it turns out.

I know I know, I just fed a troll, but I couldn't let him/her/shim pollute my bastion of rationale PS chatter.
There are so many places better suited for picking fights, why try in the monastery?

I've never played co-op with more than one person anyway so this seems good to me.
For the people talking about skipping MW2; if you're saying that because your not a fan of the franchise, fair enough. But if your saying that because of what Ben referred to as a "bluff" from Activision's Bobby Kotick said, you should reconsider.
Activison is just the distributor, Infinity Ward is making this game. Would you skip a great movie from Martin Scorsese like Goodfellas because you don't like Warner Bros?
I guess on some level if you did, you'd feel like you made a bold statement or something but I just think you'd be missing out on a great game because some blowhard was talking some jive:)

MW1 was a pretty good game, but MW2 is pushing it just a bit. Never got MW1 simply because I had better games to play, and I doubt I'll get this one too.
If this game gets GoTY (which I don't really care about anyways), its because its an established series that no one wants to admit has lost quite a bit of its shine since #1. I would have to say Uncharted 2 gets GoTY, simply because it will be the better game. Better graphics, better story, better gameplay (IMO anyway), just about better everything.

I have to agree the 2 player co-op is the most logical inclusion; to play missions with a buddy is just great fun and its seems gamers generally would like to see more co-op available in a lot more games... it seems the logical thing to do if the game play mechanic permits it
