Bale Hasn't Been Asked To Do The Metal Gear Solid Movie

Despite Christian Bale's appearance in multiple films before Batman Begins, most everyone will agree the latter was his coming-out party. He went from "American Psycho" to playing bad-asses on a routine basis, so of course, his name was mentioned when we heard about the "Metal Gear Solid" film.

At the time, many believed it feasible that Bale might sign on to play the iconic Snake, and some sources even claimed that it was already a done deal. We haven't seen anything official on the subject just yet, but Bale was asked by MTV Mutliplayer if he was going to do the movie. As it turns out, the star actor says he hasn't even been approached. The interview apparently wasn't very long, as it went like this:

"Has he been approached about Metal Gear Solid? 'No,' he said.

Does he play video games? 'Yes,' he said.

What games does he play? 'That,' he said.

...okay, well, thanks for your time, Mr. Bale. Of course, this doesn't really tell us much, besides the fact that he's likely not in the running to play Snake in the film in question. We're also questioning the fact that he has ever played a MGS title, but then again, what would be his motivation to lie? Well, anyway, everyone seems to have an opinion concerning the proper lead actor for this movie, so what's your opinion? Would Bale be a good fit? Or do you have someone else in mind?

David Hayter on the other hand would be the perfect guy. Meh acting's doable. If he can voice-act, I'm sure he can act(physically)

Again, this guy looks nothing like Snake

I'm sure there are better actors out there

there is actually a clip of hayter dressed up as Big Boss at the Spike VGA's. He's not too bad. A couple acting classes would do the trick I think. He's got the voice and that means lots.

This is a little off topic but do you guys think Snake(Kurt Russel) from ecsape from New York and L.A. had anything to do with snake from MGS? He looked like Snake, talked like Snake and Even acted like Snake from MGS. I wish he wasn't such an old man now lol, He would be PERFECT for an MGS movie. Christan Bale is a Phenominal actor theres no getting around that but he doesn't have that Snake like errr.... Charm lol.

I don't have any evidence to back this up but I remember reading an interview back when MGS first debuted on the PS1 that said Snake Pliskin (escape from NY) was the primary influence for Snake in both appearance and name.

Yes, Kurt Russell from Escape from New York was inspired for the character of Solid Snake, and IMO Kurt Russell would be the perfect Snake because of this.

I disagree, i has a convincing look, but in action films he is so horrifically bland as an actor. Which is a shame becuase he is capable of so much more; proven by American Psycho!

All though Bale's a great actor, and I loved him in the movie "Harsh Times", I think Bale's all wrong for this, especially since he has the same atittude as Anti-Vision's boss.

As for his usual short uppity nose-up-in-the-air snippity one-liners for answers, he could sure could've taken some pointers from the late Henny Youngman.

True, the man doesn't look much like Snake, but he would certainly have the acting abilities to portray the ultimate badass on the big screen. Just trusting him to do a true portrayal is another story...

I think you'd have to find a no-name great- talent actor for Snake. I would prefer that over trying to jam a square peg (big name actor) into a round hole (A complex and fan-loved character).

I don't have anyone in mind, I'd just prefer this path. Metal Gear should NOT be a vehicle for a star.

Look at Superman Returns. No name actor plays an iconic hero and people loved it. They saw the character, not the actor, and that is EXACTLY what a film adaptation of MGS needs!!!

I could see Kurt Russel as Big Boss and then later in the movie franchise find an actor who looks like a young Kurt to play Solid Snake.

Well, I personally can't stand Christian Bale. I don't like his acting at all and I wouldn't even see the MGS movie if he was in it. They need to make it would with David Hayter. Snake will be ruined without the voice.

while there is an onimusha movie already in production, i heard it was based off of a different game in the series.... but kaneshiro is playing samanosuke

Eric Bana would be a very good choice (and not just cos he's Aussie and I'm Aussie too meaning that I only support Aussie actors) but his past film roles have shown that he can tackle many roles very well.

How about Russel Crowe for that matter? He proved he had the physical strength in Gladiator and the likeable brute role was done very well too. He is one of the best actors in terms of displaying small emotions in characters and the setting (one key scene that comes to mind is from State of Play where he's confident and in charge of the situation, but suddenly runs into the enemy and turns into a nervous wreck attempting to compose himself and remain professional and friendly to avoid being sprung)

Any other good actos for the role of Snake come to mind?

Just get Hayter to do it. Have him gain 30lbs and that's it.

Please no Christian Bale. The guy makes a shitty Batman (even though the movies are still great), imo, and his gruffy Batman voice is awful. Plus he's a pompous douche.

i think...Daniel Day Lewis as Liquid.....member him in in Gangs Of New York picture that but he obvs was swearing liquids kinda clothing and with crey hair and a grey tash i dunno i think it might be good. As for snake im not 2 sure lol

Although I do see where your coming from, get Brucie to grow another moustache slap a mullet wig on him and I could see it. But I think kurt has that look more naturally

Hmmmm i remember when it was first announced and Hayter was asked and he wasn't allowed or something. I wanted him to do it but after finding out he couldn't, the idea left me a bit.

I do reckon he should do it, but if bale did it or something i wouldn't mind. And whatever you all say, he isn't a bad actor at all, and he was told to put that voice on as batman, to mask his voice, he didn't just randomly come out with it!

How about the story just remain told through the games? Has anyone considered that? I mean, a story of that kind of epic scale just can't fit into a 2 hour film, it's impossible!!
Maybe if it were a trilogy, then it could be done, but really, is there anything wrong with keeping it in video game form?

I'm sorry, but who CAN'T do solid snakes voice. David Hayter was in the right place at the right time for that gig.

I like the idea of Eric Bana playing Snake. Bana is bad ass and the Hulk wasn't his fault. I think the guy deserves a Comic-Con come back.

how about a MoCap movie like Beowulf, have Hayter's voice on someone else's body. That would be awesome, Beowulf was awesome.

Question is, what story line would they use? would they cram all the best stuff into flashbacks or take some lazy and cheap "Snake the early years, or Snake in highschool" nonsense.

Hugh Jackman? Let him stick with wolfie. He seems to pull that off pretty well.

I think Bale would be good for Snake. Give him a five o'clock shadow and an eye patch and you couldn't tell the difference.

Plus he is a douche!

Snake would be a hard roll to fit, i personally cant picture anyone other than Hayter doing it! It's the voice!

no bale if they choose bale im going to throw my mgs games in the trash (not really) but at least have someone who has played the game if they are going to do a movie

bale is way overrated 2 movies and well he seems very bland as an actor.

David Hayter is the obvious choice to people who played a mgs game

maybe Edward Norton with some muscle and makeup loved him in American history x not the best looking snake but could pass with some work

Actually, Hughe Jackman would be acceptable, I could see it, good choice he kinda has that look about him, lets keep going with people who could look like snake, lets not have another Dragonball Evolution *ugh* I just threw up a bit in my mouth. but like I said, Big Boss should be played by no one else but the ORIGINAL voice of Snake Kurt Russell

Hideo Kojima said he`s would pick Viggo Mortensen as Snake, I think he did anyway. But who knows, it problably won`t be any of those we`ve come up with...

i have no doubt,that vigo would do a great job as snake,(if you dont agree take a look at "A history of violence),and is a better choice than bale..

the main reason i hated terminator salvation was bale is no Connor,then again he's no batman...

my guess is bale would be better suited for dramas...
