New Home Stats: 7 Million Users, Each Spend About 1 Hour
If you haven't yet wandered around PlayStation Home - or you haven't been back since checking it out when it first launched - you're definitely missing out on some cool stuff.
Now, as Sony has already revealed that the number of active PlayStation Network accounts has hit 25 million, we learn that more have also signed up for Home. According to Gamasutra, Sony Europe's director of Home, Peter Edward, confirmed that many new accounts have been opened since E3. In fact, a good half-million new visitors have entered Home in the past three weeks, as it has reached 7 million total; the number announced at Sony's press conference was 6.5 million. As for some additional stats, Edward said that the average Home user spends about an hour within the ever-expanding virtual community (56 minutes, to be exact), and that 80% of the inhabitants are males between the ages of 18 and 35. Edwards did touch upon increased advertising, but for the most part, he wanted to make it clear that "revenue isn't the main driver for Home." Like most of Sony's business practices as they relate to the video game industry, they're in this for the long haul, and instant profit isn't part of the agenda. But the good news is that with 7 million Home accounts out there and 25 million Network accounts, the PSN continues to grow at a rapid rate. FYI, "rapid" = "good."
PlayStation Home is a constant work-in-progress and while that may not sound appealing to the uninitiated, just take a look around and see what has been added in only six months time...it's actually quite impressive.

Home was billed as this virtual, well, home, where you could hang out with your PSN friends and hang out and then play games. Unfortunately it's more difficult to do this in Home than in real life.

And I'd take a lovely area over an über-fast internet connection any day.
