New Home Stats: 7 Million Users, Each Spend About 1 Hour

If you haven't yet wandered around PlayStation Home - or you haven't been back since checking it out when it first launched - you're definitely missing out on some cool stuff.

Now, as Sony has already revealed that the number of active PlayStation Network accounts has hit 25 million, we learn that more have also signed up for Home. According to Gamasutra, Sony Europe's director of Home, Peter Edward, confirmed that many new accounts have been opened since E3. In fact, a good half-million new visitors have entered Home in the past three weeks, as it has reached 7 million total; the number announced at Sony's press conference was 6.5 million. As for some additional stats, Edward said that the average Home user spends about an hour within the ever-expanding virtual community (56 minutes, to be exact), and that 80% of the inhabitants are males between the ages of 18 and 35. Edwards did touch upon increased advertising, but for the most part, he wanted to make it clear that "revenue isn't the main driver for Home." Like most of Sony's business practices as they relate to the video game industry, they're in this for the long haul, and instant profit isn't part of the agenda. But the good news is that with 7 million Home accounts out there and 25 million Network accounts, the PSN continues to grow at a rapid rate.  FYI, "rapid" = "good."

PlayStation Home is a constant work-in-progress and while that may not sound appealing to the uninitiated, just take a look around and see what has been added in only six months time...it's actually quite impressive.

Excuse my ignorance, but does anyone know if this is only a beta testing? and if so, does that mean that another better version of it is about to come out?

Yah, it's still currently in open beta, so god knows when it will be released in its true form...

Some places in the open beta are a mere fraction of what they truely are in the final version lol

Also, I'm proud to be one of those 7 million!

I'm also a bit confused about this. One thing I know (or at least pray to God is true) is that Sony wouldn't release the "next" Home and make us dump all of the stuff we bought so far. I'd guess they'll make the connection faster as well as the load screens. I don't know what else would constitute removing the "beta" on the Home tag.

Technically Home will probably always be a "beta" as it will likely never stop adding spaces meaning it will never be a finished product.

Well regardless of what happens, Home is good, stable and pretty fun. I always look forward to every Thursday, as new content on the store and Home is always abundant, although there have been times where content is dry (but I always manage to find at least one thing lol).

So what if its still in Open Beta? I applaud Sony for that. Most of Google's products are still in a beta, and they've been out for almost a decade.

The more things they make you do the better.

That's what I'm really waiting for

-virtual petts
-virtual villages (where you can live in the same small village as your friends on PSN. So you invite them to live in your village and all and they live there with you)
-etc.

And when you're not with her, she's cheating on you...

By the way, 1 hour out of 24 won't take away from spending time with whomever.

From what you mentioned, sounds like your way to invested in home for just one hour increments at a time...

And to say my girlfriend cheats on me was uncalled for...

As of now, there's really nothing to it. The problem is, there's not really a way to define Home. It's kind of a virtual social networking-type deal, but there are actual games to play. Of course, unlike with a video game on your own console, these are like real-world games, and you have to wait to play them. The game spaces aren't anything to write home about (yet), and game launching from within Home is either nonexistent or extremely spotty--as in, only a very few games support it, and I have yet to come across them.

Home was billed as this virtual, well, home, where you could hang out with your PSN friends and hang out and then play games. Unfortunately it's more difficult to do this in Home than in real life.

Imagine Home had split-screen support, or support for two people, but on one screen. There'd also be indicators or little arrows to show where the other person would go, and both people have to be in the same area, so one person can't be in the mall, but the other at the theatre.

Although that would be really cool if it happened, and everything I said would happen....lol =D

Don't really get home. I'd rather spend time playing a game or watching a tv show/movie then walking around the world of Home. It may one day be worth it but as of right now it's just people standing around doing the same dances and expressions with little or nothing to do. I wish Sony would invest more in game content than a social network.

Home is a good concept, but still does nothing for me. Usually go in there just to download the new "free" items (refuse to pay for virtual clothes), and any new spaces. Once that's done, I quit out of it and continue gaming.

they should sell advertising space for everything then use the money they make for a price cut and they the console wars will be over.

I live out in the Falkland Islands and the best ping off any server I have had so far is 813!

Also internet here is slow and expensive and has low download limits.....

It's a lovely place though!

You should get the satellite internet thing.. I dont know how much it costs, but I think it costs less then what you are paying right now.

That's a great assessment, Master, especially considering he didn't even give the remotest hint as to the actual cost. I've used satellite internet and it's godawful. Painfully slow. That was two years ago, so unless some amazing new improvement's come along, I doubt it's a great solution.

And I'd take a lovely area over an ├╝ber-fast internet connection any day.
