Obsidian's Aliens RPG Is No More
Fans of the movies would've loved to try a role-playing title based on the long-running franchise, but it seems they will no longer have the opportunity.
Obsidian's Aliens RPG was supposed to be one of three Sega projects that would utilize the "Aliens" license; the other two are first-person shooters (Aliens vs. Predator and Aliens: Colonial Marines). However, according to an administrator over at the official Aliens RPG forums, the project is officially dead. The message reads:
"Rumors have circled around a bit regarding the fate of the Aliens role playing game that Obsidian and SEGA had been working on. Unfortunately, it is true that we are no longer working on the game, and we wanted to finally announce that officially to everyone who has been following its development."
Too bad. The game held a tentative release date of TBA 2009 and was going to arrive for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. We can always look forward to Rebellion's Alien vs. Predator, of course, but we've never really had an Aliens RPG. That coulda been way cool. The good news is that this license likely won't disappear from the video game realm any time soon; the possibilities are almost endless, despite the fact that many past titles that have used the license have been mediocre.
