Sony Signed Orders To Insure A July Launch For PS3 Slim?
The rumors of the new PlayStation 3 Slim are beginning to escalate at a rapid pace, and we could stand by the ol' "if there's smoke there's fire" philosophy if we wished to be optimistic...
Yesterday, we learned from a supposedly "reliable source" that Sony was planning to drop the price of the current PS3 and bring a brand new PS3 SKU to market; a model that would be both slimmer and cheaper. Now, according to Engadget, the newest rumor says the PS3 Slim may arrive even sooner than expected. Apparently, it seems that Sony has signed manufacturing agreements with both Foxconn and Pegatron to insure the new machine will be ready for a July launch date. The second part to this rumor is just too ridiculous to accept, but we'll inform you, anyway: it says that this new PS3 Slim will be the last iteration of this generation, and a new piece of hardware designed around the new motion technology will release in 2010. The biggest problem with this rumor is obvious, as noted by Engadget- the motion tech is for the current PS3s on the market; we don't need new hardware for it, and it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to issue a new console, especially after Sony's insistent "10-year lifespan" claims.
No, we just think it's a misinterpretation of some kind; don't put any stock in that latter rumor. However, might we see a slimmer, cheaper PS3 as early as this month? Yeah, that's right, it's July 1 so...

The delivery of finished product for end of July to Sony pending being sent to a seaport for shipment.
SHIPMENT of finished product to delivery distribution and sale points is 15 to 45 days after delivery date depending on where it needs to be sent giving an arrival date for CONUS on September 15th and earlier to closer geographic points like Japan.or so the delivery rumors go.
A quick check of seaships time tables for cargo delivery from Taiwan/China to CONUS shows 30 to 45 days.

now you want a ps3.. but someone were to say "wait till july, we'll have 1 for 299 plus it's way smaller and kooler)
now picture that every consumer knows that as of june 1st-5th... that would equal to a minimum (almost zero) sell ammount for june... alot of money lost for sony... because no1's gonna pay 400 for something they can get for 300 in 30-40 sum days... you see wut i mean? in a competitive market, disclosing info like this is like putting nails in your coffin...
this kinda SH!T is already happening in gamestops all across north america... and thats just dumba$$ employees spreading bs... imagine if there was an official press release?? it would give all those dumbsh!t game media doomsayers more crap to throw... "Ps3 Dips in sales for june, a 96% decrease in sales during this month, looks like ps3's dying, and fast"
im personally content with this rumor... makes sence to me, and also, even if its not true... i have a ps3, i have amazing games, a price cut and new model really doesn't affect me... i win both ways...

I stated this in a post below; If the information proves to be true, they would not likely release in July. Only ship units to retailers. Probably will be an August release prior to Madden10... if rumors are true.
**Edit: Although, after thinking about it you make an interesting point. They announce PSP Go! in June for a fall release. No announcement from them about a new PS3 that is likely to come sooner?
Does smell fishy -but- the market is different. While the Slim PS3 is likely for cost reduction reasons, phasing out the old model at current price would be easier without the public being aware of a cheaper one on the way. The PSP Go! is an updated version with new features and no price cut. Announcing the PSP Go! early would not likely affect PSP sales negatively since they will be priced differently and probably are being sold at profit by now.

for example:
sony wants a shot at the casual market to combat the wii but they dont want to upset there hardcore fans,
so what do they do
they have two seperate pieces of hardware in stores
one of them is the current hardcore gaming console and the other is a wii-like-ps3
but this is just what i think

I think this another mock up like the "PSP Slide," or something like the "Vii" (a Chinese Wii knockoff). And why change the PS3 logo?
I can see Sony creating a smaller PS3 with a lower price, but not something that looks like a Slim PS2 with a redesigned PS3 logo.

Upgrades I'm hoping for:
MULTI-MEMORY STICK SLOTS!
BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY (480P upscale would be best, no need to further enhance it) with region free settings
FASTER BLU-RAY drive
COLORS, different vibrant colors!
"Extra" USB ports at the back for alternate features like charging your bloody headset without disturbing the two ports at the front dedicated for 2 dualshock 3 controllers.

As long as unscrupulous mouths keep running like leaky faucets, it can only hurt Sony's sales, due to the fact that consumers keep hearing these rumors & then they wait, & wait, & then wait some more, before getting Sony's equipment. They should all just keep their ever flapping gums shut!
And another thought, I'm seriously wondering how much is really leaks, vs how much is Microsoft AstroTurf false Sony info everywhere?????

Having your media partners repeatedly run stories calling for a price cut and slating the PS3 for being too costly, and then following up with rumor and 'news' about the slim PS3 and price cut being just around the corner would seem to be a perfect combination designed to slow Sony PS3 sales...don't you think?

Unless there is another electronics show in early-mid August, expect a press conference called by Sony the day before release (ala PS2 Slim).
Wow, hard to believe that is less than 2 months away...

I worry about a slimmer model cause what would they have to cut out of the orginal model to make this one so special. I'm happy with my 20gig that i need to upgrade the HD for more space cause this bad boy is full.

Wouldn't Sony have announced something about that back at E3? Unless they think PS3 Slim isn't that big of a deal.
But why in the past did they think that the PSP 2000 was a big deal? The main point about that was it was slimmed down.
Yea this is just pure bullshit IMO. But if somehow something happens where I see a PS3 Slim sitting on the shelves at a lower price than normal...fine then - it was just a bad move for Sony to unexpectedly do it and not notify people.

As in ever.
As in ever anywhere.
As in ever anywhere here!
PS3 Slim: it's coming for sure, but it won't be in stores in July. It has to trickle down the production channels, and that includes shipping them slim things to all points on the planet that sell them. They have to have them made and ready, so they can distribute to regional warehouses, so when they announce it, it'll be in stores within a certain date. Armed and ready.
go sony.

I agree with you on all the PS3 extras, but the problem is that Sony doesn't do any marketing or hype on those extras.
But now, if Sony were to do the slim as a 160 or 320, that marketing would even be right on the box for all to see, and if they were to hype that fact too......WOW, JUST WOW!!!!!!.
Even with a 160GB, that little increase in hard drive couldn't up Sony's production cost too much more could it??? I mean, they've been packaging 160's for a while now, so why the lowered 120GB diff now?
It just doesn't make any sense to me, unless maybe Sony's trying to throw MS off their trail & is actually keeping a bigger HD than MS's Elite.
