Free Update Will Add Face Button Controls To Fight Night
Previously, it had been rumored that EA Sports was toying with the idea of offering face-button controls for Fight Night Round 4 via downloadable content.
Well, it ain't a rumor any longer. According to EA's official Fight Night website, a free downloadable update in "early September" will give players the option of using face button controls rather than the default analog mechanic. This is in addition to the first DLC pack - also free - that will drop early next month and feature "a new training gym, new gameplay sliders, as well as a host of new equipment that can be used for outfitting boxers." Said senior producer Dean Richards:
"The depth and variety of new content we have planned this summer is going to make one of the most critically acclaimed games on the market even better. Among the new content in development, our new button control scheme will give fans a choice for how they want to throw punches in the game. We strongly believe that the refined Total Punch Control is the most intuitive way to throw punches in Fight Night Round 4, but we also want fans of the franchise to have an option."
EA is pretty good about catering to the fans, and many have been clamoring for this face button control addition. Although many critics (including ourselves) remain firm in the belief that the default analog system is plenty intuitive enough, some members of the more casual crowd simply want to hit buttons to throw punches. In that respect, we can certainly understand the appeal. We'll let you know when we have exact dates for the first DLC pack and the face-button control update.

I should note that I didn't really have the same problem with skate, so it's not JUST that I suck.
And the dodge and counter mechanics are, well, dodgy. Hold this, press that, flick this direction, then let go and flick the other direction. Not fun.

EA actually listens to its fans. Nice to know they provide options rather than forcing people into a set control scheme. (cough, looking at you Killzone 1, cough)
