Modern Warfare 2 Officially Reclaims Call Of Duty Title
'sigh' You know, this is just way too much drama for a freakin' video game title. But at least the entire issue should be laid to rest, as Activision has finally clarified...
At first, we all figured that Infinity Ward's next title, which was indeed a direct sequel to 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, would be officially called, "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." However, when the first trailers and media arrived for the game, the "Call of Duty" part was curiously missing from the title, and Activision appeared to confirm the title's separation from the long-running series by saying "it has taken on such a life of its own." It also could be cumbersome to say, "Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2." And so, ever since, everyone has been referring to it as simply, "Modern Warfare 2." Well, the box art has revealed something quite obvious, and Activision's response is clear as day (again, finally):
"Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title's package. Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series."
Okay, so now everyone outside the hardcore gaming community knows: Modern Warfare 2 is definitely a part of the CoD world, and that's that. Of course, avid gamers already knew that, but the power of name recognition in this industry shouldn't be ignored.

Anyway, on topic did anyone really not know that this game was the follow up to CoD:MW when it was just called Modern Warfare 2? I mean I know they polled people about it but did they poll people who actually played the first game or just a bunch of people through some online survey to win points towards gift cards?

Then you can have Call of duty: Modern Warfare 1,2,3,4, etc..
Then Call of Duty World @ War, 1,2,3..etc...
That way they can branch out like the Clancy titles did to do planes, and other forms of warfare if they want.
Call of Duty: Battle over Britain anyone?
Burnout hasn't had a number attached to it since #3 really, they don't really need it. It doesn't matter what number it is, the name itself is going to sell. And in all honesty, I think a name like Call of Duty: ( Insert battle name here), sounds way better then Call of Duty 276: Modern Warfare 127.

The CoD franchise, as I said earlier, peaked at CoD:UO. And CoD2 could've followed suit, had they released a United Offensive-esque expansion, that they did for the first. Instead, they gave the PC base that made these games what they are, the finger. And created, CoD3, arguably the worst FPS since...um...shit, CoD4 came out.
I realize I'm in the minority, believe me I do. However, the stories of those involved in the European/Pacific theaters, did not end with Easy Company and the 501st. Even though, those were some of the greatest stories to come from that war (Vasili Zeitsev also).
As far as I'm concerned, the ONLY Call of Duty games in the franchise, that I recognize, are those based upon actual events, actual battles, recreated from those actually there. All others, are merely ways to milk the franchise name.

Maybe Resintance3... Its most likely going to be a Sony 1st,2nd or 3rd party studio.
That said, I still think MW2 will be worth the money, being from Rio de Janeiro Brazil, I can't wait to play on the Favelas, the closest I will ever get LOL

Who cares ? Come on by now pretty much everyone had heard of Modern Warfare so Modern Warfare 2 anyone.
I kept my COD4 Modern Warfare but got rid of WAW as i felt it simply wasn't as good as Modern Warfare.

i mean every one knows what modern warfare is because its the only popular COD title.
all the others are crap except for me i never liked COD4 i thought world at war was better.
meh from the e3 trailers im rely hyped for this, i hope what they said about the combat is true.
how you can either go in guns blazing or sit back at a distance and take a more stealth approach.
because it gets extremly tedious and annoying when you have 50 enemies shooting you so all you can do is pop and shoot.
gets boring its alot better when your able to move arround and use stealth kills.

Stop referring to World at War as Call of Duty 5. It is not.
Modern Warfare is far superior to World at War for one reason, the developer.
