Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition Priced: Hide Your Wallets

A few big-name titles have been delayed until 2010, so perhaps that will lessen the strain on your wallet. And with less strain, you might want to go whole hog on one of the hottest titles of the generation.

When Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling officially unboxed the super special Prestige edition for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, we learned of a "Behind the Lines" art book, a steel case for the game, a voucher for the original Call of Duty that will be on the PSN/XBLA (full online support included) and, oh yeah, night-vision goggles. Of course, everyone wanted to know how much this hefty package would cost...well, not surprisingly, it's gonna be pricey. But if you've got the cash and the desire, you can drop the requisite $149.99 when the time comes this November. Because it has a date assigned to it - November 10 - you can probably pre-order the bundle at either GameStop or Amazon.com, although unless you're a die-hard follower of the series, you'll likely balk at that price. We know there are millions who continue to play the original Modern Warfare online, and the game will most certainly sell many millions, too. However, with the holidays fairly well packed with quality releases and the country having not quite yanked itself completely free of the recession, it may be difficult to convince consumers. After all, you're talking about one game that would cost half the price of a PlayStation 3...well, you know, provided that $100 discount comes into effect before November.

But hey, maybe it would make for a nice Christmas present. Perhaps somebody owes you a big favor. Maybe you have a birthday around that time and you've got an extra generous spouse or girlfriend. Who knows? Don't you want your own pair of fully functional night-vision goggles?

Like I said before...this is exactly the reason that Activision is crying over the price of the PS3. Lower the price of the PS3 so that they can schill more of their own crap.

Some people will buy this, but consider it a pass for me...

You could probably wait a few months on this and the price will plummet. All of these overmade limited editions end up sitting on store shelves, e.g. Halo 3 and GTA4's.

Xbox 360 pics have been the default for pretty much any multi-plat this gen. Same as the last gen where you'd find ps2 covers as default on almost all if not all websites.

I know a couple of places where they have that Halo 3 thing with the helmet for $50 or cheaper so I'm sure the same thing would happen here with this. If you think about it everyone will pretty much the standard then on the shelves or the back room of some places the PE will be sitting there for months, and then that's when I'll jump on this.

sorry, I'm a die hard Modern Warfare fan but this is just ridiculous. "Sony, lower ur prices or else" then this.... no thanks.

Thats money better spent on other games. At least with the Tekken 6 controller bundle for the same price, you get a damn good joystick which can be used for other fighting games, unlike Activision's peripherals or this NVG which is bound to be a crappy model

I am getting this game period...now as for the prestiege edition, I will wait to see if the goggles are crappy or pretty good before I pick it up...and there is no way I would pay that much for that stuff even though it comes across as a decent deal to me, good thing christmas is so close to the release date lol

Not so much a complaint. More of a pointing out of the obvious hypocrisy in kotex's threats toward Sony for a price cut. This just piles onto the "they're one to talk" statement. They cry for a price cut yet they sell some of the most over priced games on the market.

My camcorder has nightshot so...not a requirement and I'd rather get some games for that money. But it would still look nice in my collection of crap I don't need or use.

I don't really see it that way, with all the stuff it comes with in the regualar special edition and the night vision googles it seems like a great deal...unless the goggles are crap...then it's a rip off...we'll just have to wait for the reviews to come it I guess...

Damn, as I was reading this, my jeans flew right off and dialed 911 for my local seamstress.
I leaned in real close, so I was able to overhear my wallet pocket ordering a zipper, and one very large Anti-vision pick-proof lock.

And now all my jeans are doing a victory march while holding up all their "Anti-vision equals Anti-matter" signs.

You also get a free download of Call Of Duty one... if it's not too limited edition, I'll see if there are any available around Christmas time and ask for it... I loved Call Of Duty, the whole WWII era times, not the modern ones, but after I tried Modern Warfare I realized it was just as good as COD2 and even better.

Lower the damn price or I will be obligated to not support your company anymore. You know Mr KOTICK...with $150.oo I can buy maybe the best game on the fall that is UNCHARTED 2, and there will be money left to buy MAG and Ratchet and Clank a Crack in Time. So Lower the price or another stupid comment on another stupid site about how PS3 players (at least the gamers ones, not the stupid who follows the trend) didn support your "prestige" edition and how the 360 fancrowd is better because they have nothing more ( I dont think so) to buy will be made by you MR KOTICK.

That's $300 over here in NZL.

That's also the price of an Xbox 360 Arcade (with 2 games).

And it's also $100 less than what I paid for my PS3.
Just one hundred dollars less.. I paid $400.

*And just to put this here* You can also buy a a good/decent electric guitar or amp.

I know they're "fully functional night vision goggles" but I think we're missing something. Look at that picture again. They fit that gray head. That gray head looks a lot smaller than a human head. A fully functional miniature more like.

Just grab a random cd and hold it in front of your head, and if you compare it to the dvd (and compare that to soaps head) on the picture you'll see that it would fit very well.

Nah forget it after what Activision said I will NEVER pay this much money for any of their products.

the only thing that is really cool is the Night Vision Goggles.... BUT they aren't the authentic pair I think.... The real deal will cost way more than this entire package. I think it might just be some cheap plastic imitation... So no deal...

bloody hell and i thought the MGS4 limited edition was expensive.
but than they did only release 4 here, i got it day 1 for 180 finished the game and sold it on ebay for 300.
its amazing what people will pay for things off ebay.

meh, i bought the gta iv SE (mainly because the normal version was sold out) and it kinda disappointed me;
- bag: zipper is broken, shoulder belt too: ps3 was too heavy
- locker: could be opened by sticking a knife in the lock, even using my thumbnail instead of the knife!
- keyhanger: even that broke!
- well, a cd and an artwork book are a little too hard to break, still intact, just like the actual game

so no, i have a too bad experience with special editions, even though night vision goggles are incredibly cool, but they'll probably be crappy
