Borderlands Announced For October 20
If you didn't realize it, Gearbox Software's Borderlands was in existence at this year's E3, and the developer said this "role-playing shooter" was on track for an October release. They couldn't, however, confirm that date at the time.
Well, now it seems as if the game will hit the desired launch target: as GameSpot reports, 2K Games has announced that Borderlands will launch for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on October 20 and three days later in the UK, mainland Europe, Australia, and other territories. Of course, this puts it within one week of the massively anticipated Uncharted 2: Among Thieves; Naughty Dog nailed down the release date for that bad boy just a few days ago. However, 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann isn't concerned at all:
"I don't think we have to be afraid of competition or shy of what's out there. I think this holiday season is a little bit lighter in triple-A games than last year. It's actually a good holiday to put something out. ... There's always risk and opportunity. The risk is you have a hard time standing out against established IP. The opportunity is you have a lot of traffic here and it can be a much bigger product at retail than it would be otherwise."
When we first heard about this stylish, creative title, it was a couple years ago and the only description we had was, "Mad Max meets Diablo." Supposedly, the game will have more weapons than any other video game in history; over 500,000 may be randomly generated throughout the expansive world. But the game went through some major visual overhauls and it missed its "late 2008" estimated release early on, so everyone began to wonder how things were faring on the development side. Well, things must've gone well in recent months, because it's now on track for that anticipated fall release.

I'm gonna be SSSSOOOOOOOO broke and inside the house this Fall/Winter and now looks like into the Spring too. The early 2010 line-up is getting crowded too.
FYI: Gearbox stopped by X-Play today. They did a hands-on preview. Check g4tv's website for 2 videos of live gameplay with 4-player co-op!

Aaaanyways, Borderlands is not a day one buy for me, but if the reviews start popping up with the kind of things I like to hear, well, I'll be testing those 500k weapons sooner than later.
