Follow-Up To The Darkness Confirmed But Starbreeze Not Involved

It was one of the first great games of the new generation, and the instant we finished it, we knew we wanted a sequel. But it has been a long wait for fans of The Darkness, as we first heard about the possibility of a second title way back in April of 2008.

Well, perhaps that early announcement was premature, but we can finally begin to anticipate a sequel. According to Top Cow Productions' Marc Silvestri, a follow-up is indeed in the works; he revealed as much during the publisher's panel at this year's Comic-Con event. However, we don't currently know who the developer is; Starbreeze will not be returning to handle the sequel, which will come as a disappointment to those who enjoyed the original title. As Starbreeze CEO Johan Kristiansson said to VG247:

"I heard that there were talks about a Darkness sequel, but Starbreeze is not involved in anything like that right now. We are busy on two projects together with EA."

Okay, well, Top Cow had better have a talented developer working on The Darkness 2 (if that is indeed what it will be called), because we have great respect for Starbreeze. On the good side, Top Cow has announced that the original game will soon be added to the Greatest Hits lineup for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which means you'll be able to snag it for only $29.99. We know the game came out early and it's unlikely that many of you had your PS3s yet, so perhaps you missed out. It may seem a little outdated now, but trust us, it's a damn cool experience.

I could not get into this game at all which was a disappointment because I enjoy the character and his "universe".

I loved The Darkness, though I played it on the 360 (I didn't have a PS3 at the time) and I thought it was 2007's most underrated game. Great gameplay, superb story and voice acting and little touches of humor made the game a fun ride. I'm all for a sequel.

Actually the anime came later, the original Witchblade is a comic in the same world as The Darkness. And I'm rooting for either it or an Angelus game, would be cool for it to be a series of games from other points of view besides Jackie's, although now that I think about it I'm pretty sure he's been the only continuous character there, the Angelus and the Witchblade have both changed on occasions.

What I can't understand is the love that people had for Riddick and the hate they had for this game. They both play very similar and also have slow periods in them. I still have my copy and will replay it as soon as I beat and or replay the following.
Red Faction
Street Fighter 4
Ghostbusters
Soulcalibur 4
Half-Life 2
Gears of War 2
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
and Prototype.

Oh crap......I never beat Silent Hill 4. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you

I rented it around the time it had come out and it's a wonderful game that unfortunately not many people have had the chance to play.
I would strongly recommend everyone pick it up before it becomes a "Greatest/Platinum Hits" I bought it about two weeks ago to add to my collection for $12, don't wait and miss out on this gem.
I can't wait to hear more about the sequel though.

its my favorite non exclusive ps3 title.
but it was way way way to short the next one needs to be longer and have a proper story line.
the last was pathetic, but the cutscenes when you die were creepy and cool.
more horror games should do that.
that and dead space death animations are classics, like when issac gets his head sliced off and runns arround headless.
thats 1 thing i dont understand dark sector got banned here because of limb chopping, but NG2 got through untouched and jesus crist thats the most violent video game ive ever played.

I'm not a big FPS fan, but I bought The Darkness when it first came out. I don't know what came over me, but I am glad I pick it up. Now, I am really looking forward to the sequel. Too bad Starbreeze is not involved this time, but hopefully the sequal will be just as good or better.
