SOCOM: Confrontation Is The Biggest Online Game On PS3
When a game is expressly designed for online play, that fact is often enough to propel it to immense popularity, even in the face of better single-player games that offer online multiplayer.
If we were to ask you, "what's the biggest online game on the PlayStation 3," you'd probably respond with Killzone 2 or maybe Warhawk. Well, it's neither, and it's not even the awesome 60-player Resistance 2; according to SCEA senior producer Mark Rogers, it's SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation. As reported by Joystiq, Confrontation has "the most simultaneous online connections on the PlayStation Network," and he says it has a lot to do with "the community's commitment to the franchise." Rogers also adds that such dedication will be rewarded with an upcoming patch, although we don't have any exact details on that update just yet. He did tease us, however, by saying that the "massive scale and scope" of that patch has prompted "an extended testing cycle," so Slant Six has been very hard at work in terms of preparation. On top of which, there's even more DLC scheduled, so it's fairly obvious that your support means a game will invariably get their support. Just the way of the industry, really.
Now, while we will certainly agree that there are better games out there, we'd like to remind you that we waited a bit for the team to fix a few of the crucial issues Confrontation suffered from at launch. We made a point of saying that in the review. And you know what? It's a pretty damn good game, and we're willing to bet that it just gets better with time...oh, and that big ol' patch oughta be interesting, too.

Joining random multiplayer teams and getting kicked cuz of your noob status is pretty tiring...
Also, not everyone likes playing with/against people they don't know.

John: Well, there you have it folks? SOCOM is crowned the victor. The judges came with a shocking decision there, Bob?
Bob: Yea they sure did, John. This means SOCOM remains the online champ after 2 generations! Staggering news, John. Just staggering.
John: Here's some interesting news. It seems that SOCOM has a new challenger for its next fight this fall. And get this...the fighter's trainer is SOCOM's former trainer, Zipper.
Bob: Really?! Whats the challenger's name?
John: MAG?...*whispers* (Really? Ok.)...MAG, Bob. That should be a great title fight this fall. Will MAG take the crown?

Tune in next time, folks. I'm John Bandicoot.
Bob: And I'm Bobby Kratos. Good night everybody!

I said it before on a previous post but for some reason in my mind when I think COD, I automatically think of Xbox. Maybe it's the way it was marketed because I know it's multiplat, I just don't see it that way.

the 3 most popular online titles are also the most buggy or repetitive crap ive ever played.
1st i was so excited for SOCOM Confrontation when it was announced than i found out it was online only and was like WTF.
i was pissed and refused to buy the game.
but since theres been 0 games out this month and it just came out here (another perfect example of sony giving us the finger and having to wait months after the US this is getting EXTREMELY ANNOYING!)i thought what the hell and bought it.
biggest mistake of my life, never have i ever played a game thats so unbalanced and unpolished.
its like its still in pre beta stage.
well i know what im doing tomorrow.
2nd COD4 i hate hate hate that game i cant see how people could possible enjoy that its so repetitive and frustrating.
3rd halo 3.
o where do i start with that?
well ill just say your at war and its sunshine lolly pops and rainbows.
wheres the atmosphere?
im 99.99% sure when your at war with bombs going off 2 cm away from your ear its not going to be sunny with a rainbow and birds whistling and angels flying buy to give you cookies.
