Price Cuts Confirmed "For PlayStation Family?"

The PlayStation 3 Slim, a Gran Turismo 5 release date, a price cut for the current PS3...what hasn't been rumored to explode at this year's GamesCom event in Cologne?

The latest news comes courtesy of PSInsider, who claims that a "very reliable source" confirmed that price cuts would be coming for "the PlayStation family of products." Obviously, we have to assume this will include the PS3 and in a recent update, that source apparently singled out the console. However, we're wondering if the PSP-3000 might drop in price, too, perhaps when the PSP Go launches on October 1. Many still believe the PS3 Slim will get revealed and it will sport a cheaper price tag than the default 80GB PS3 now, but there was no mention of that new model in this rumor. The source ruled out accessories as items that will be receiving a price cut, so at this point, we're pretty well limited to hardware and software. We suppose the PS2 could get another price cut although it may not really need one, and it's very possible that Sony is preparing more bundle packages for the holiday rush. We imagine such bundles would include top exclusives that have already released, or perhaps even exclusives that are set to release in a few months...what do y'all think about an Uncharted 2: Among Thieves PS3 bundle?

Anyway, Sony's conference at GamesCom is scheduled for August 18, which is only a few short weeks away. At this point, we just have to assume that at least one huge announcement is headed our way.

Everyone that picks up a PS3 at this point has a large backlog of must play titles to knock out. Good luck catching up, but well worth it.

I too want to watch this conference. Cannot wait for GT5 everyday seems to drag on. It on of my 3 first loved PS games (others are spyro and ff7) I want it soooooooooo bad.

I still remember the day I got a ps1 slim or whatever, the two games I got with it were GT2 and I think coolboarders. Since then I have been a huge fan of the GT series.

The whole playstation family? If the PSP-3000 gets a cut with the PSP launching in October at $249.99, it'll make the PSP Go! look like a warmed up turd - price wise. I wonder whether they'll bundle a game or some other extra for the $249.99 price and ship out at a lower number for a 'core' system?

Well I hope this rumor is true, I haven't gotten a PSP yet and I found the GoW:CoO PSP bundle at a couple of stores near my gf house, I wonder (if the rumors are true) if that would lower the price of that bundle even more. If so then I'll snatch that bundle up quickly.

know what would be really cool.
a uncharted 2 slim PS3.
decorated with the front cover of drake hanging from that train, with the giant statue and cliff covered in snow.
with custom buffed chrome.
now id buy that, but than the price would be through the roof.
than do one for GOW3, with kratos ripping helios head off with a giant titan in the background.
they should release those as skins, my ps3 is starting to look last gen compare to the skins on my 360.
anyone see that custom MGS4 PS3 signed by the legend himself?
now that was pimped big time.
bloody expensive though it went for 10K if i remember right.

i really think they need to start bundling the headset with the system or have a network package for sale (Headset and keypad bundle separately). i am soo tired of playing a multiplayer game that requires communication to really do anything strategically and im the only one that has a mic. Battlefield 1943 players im looking at you.

Hopefully MAG will have a headset bundle (that will be hell if it doesn't)

the gaming world can be soo lonely at times.

Hey,

Would anyone like to guess how long it will take - once Sony announces a PS3 price reduction - for one of the gaming media outlets to run a story bashing Sony for cutting the price of the PS3, claiming that they are cutting the price in a desperate attempt to boost sales? I'm gonna guess it happens within two days of the price reduction being announced - whenever that may be.

Perhaps that PSPGo also includes the GPS functionality and Sony simply hasn't told us yet? In which case, it's price at $249 would be right in line. I can't see any other way you could cut the price of the PSP-3000 (which would seem likely given the rumored cuts across the playstation family). If you cut the price of the PSP-3000 it leaves the PSPGo out on a very shakey limb. There has to be something else to it if that's how things happen.
