GameStop Plans New Rewards System
So how many of you have an Edge card for GameStop? You know, the one that gets you a subscription to Game Informer and additional money for pre-owned products...? A lot of you do, we're sure.
Well, GameStop is asking their customers to see how they might respond to a new rewards system and it seems a few surveys have been popping up around the Internet. There is mention of a "GameStop Elite" program that offers all sorts of savings and potential goodies for the price of $15. Right now, there seem to be two separate versions of the possible new rewards systems, and you can view them both over at Joystiq. Version 1 says it'll be FREE to join; all it requires is your e-mail address and you can begin "leveling up;" membership grants you access to sneak previews of hot titles, 3-day trials for pre-owned games and more. More incentives include birthday deals, discounted strategy guides, "power trades" (permanent 20% or 25% increase in bonus trade-in credit), $5 shipping on new titles (same-day release), and "guaranteed access" to exclusive in-game items and weapons. Many have taken GameStop to task in the past for not giving an appropriate amount of money in trade, and while the Edge card does help, it seems the customers want more.
Well, you can't fault GameStop for trying. If you've had the chance to fill out one of these new surveys, feel free to let us know what questions were asked, and what you would like to see from a new rewards program.

I LOL'd recently as someone wrote in quite correctly pointing out that the writing and editorial policy of Game Informer was somewhat biased towards Xbox 360 and more than a little against the PS3.
Naturally, rather than addressing the points raised, their letters editor spewed fanboy allegations at the person who wrote in. Ironic considering the level of bias they display routinely. Even my wife has noticed it and she merely skims the magazine since she hates all of the shooter/action/horror crap for the 360 that they review/preview. "They never review anything I like!" according to her, it's kinda hard not to agree.
Yes, I'll be sure to renew my loyalty program membership so I can get that source of unbiased and timely game news....

I don't shop there enough to make this worthwhile though, but the next time I go back I don't look forward to them trying to sell this to me.
