Gaming Growing Up, Movie Stars Adding Flair To Industry

As the gaming industry continues to grow and expand, it reaches new heights of legitimacy on a continual basis. It appeals to an older and more diversified demographic than ever before, and even movie celebrities have acknowledged the transition.

In a recent article by BBC News, we learn that film stars are becoming more involved with gaming with every passing day. As summarized by Jesse Divnich, research analyst at Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR): "Now we're reaching a mass critical point where video games aren't just a device for males aged 18-35...video games are now for everybody." As for actors getting involved, this lends an even more "grown-up" sense of professionalism to a game production; recent Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke is lending his gravelly voice to Rogue Warrior, for example. He still sees movies and games as two very separate and distinct genres, and people aren't yet comparing the two mediums. But Eliza Dushku, who voices Rubi Malone in the upcoming Bethesda game, Wet, has more to say:

"Videogames have almost become acceptable and cool for grown ups - not for people who are just in their teens. I know so many people - friends, actors, directors - who are older and used to maybe play in private, but who can now say it loud and proud."

Hey, Eliza! 'waving hand' I think I know people like that, too... Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter chimed in by saying that actors actually consider it "bragging rights" when they say to their friends, "I was a voice in that game." There's little doubt that the landscape of gaming is changing right before our very eyes, and although they still can't manage to make a decent game-to-film adaptation, we cross our fingers for the future and remain encouraged.

Say it loud and proud! Gotta love that.

Since when were female gamers or adult gamers required to hide their habit? Gods, it sounds like some kind of social disability.

I'm glad that the media is finally waking up to gamings far wider appeal than just kids, perhaps now we can begin to move the debate beyond this insanity that has every mature game evaluated as if it should be placed alongside the latest Disney video game?

To be honest most movie actors/actresses are crap imo. Don't really care 'bout today's movie world.

If anything it's cool to see more Sports players openly talk 'bout v-gaming.

Wait...but where DID you hear that actors/actresses make millions? Because...that only applies...to a very very very very very small portion of actors and actresses out there. In fact...actors and actresses is one of the least paying jobs in the film industry. Unless you're an editor, script writer, or a director...it's pretty tough.

Not every movie is a huge success you know and makes $100 million in it's 1st weekend. The actors that do get millions or more per movie...are those who have been in Hollywood for a while...and know how to get that amount of money and a salary that high.

It's extremely tough for the rest.

For example Matt Damon...Leonardo DiCaprio...George Clooney...they're experience in the world they're living in. As for the other 90%...it's crazy out there.

So no...THEY DON'T MAKE MILLIONS.

Eliza Dushku: One of the hottest and most talented television actresses out there. She also really seems to love what she does and interacting with her fans. If you are into Sci Fi I highly recommend watching Dollhouse the show is amazing.

The new Wolverine was a good "film" game.

While I'm glad to see the general public becoming more open to video games and I appreciate the popularity boost from big name actors and athletes, I wish Hollywood actors would leave all of the roles to dedicated voice actors who do a MUCH better job in games and animated films alike.

umm...Uncharted...Heavenly Sword...some of the best voice acting, done by non-specialists.

I do agree that actors with more experience with voice acting do tend to give more lively performances.

So this is what it has come to? Gamers need the hollywood elite to say it's okay before we can enjoy our day in the sun. Oh well, however it happens it's good that it does happen.

Eliza was smokin in Bring it On (Shut up, I tried to rent Kingpin and Bring it On was in the case so I watched it) and I watched her brief show Tru Calling, but I was kinda sad to see she has been relegated to B movies of late. She's got a great voice though and it'll be cool to hear her in WET. I'm one of the few looking forward to that game.

The first Bring it On totally didn't suck. All the sequels really blew though. I recently learned that she was in True Lies when she was 14. It's kind of eerie how much she looked like she does now back then.

Doesn't matter. I'll be considered a pedophile if I hit on any girl gamers. The ones that game who are my age belong in them as orcs or trolls. Not saying that looks are everything, but they're definitely something.

You gotta be able to roll over in the morning and smile. It's not shallow. It's a part of life. You have to like what you're looking at. Not saying that they have to be as beautiful as my wife, they just need to make you smile.

On topic: Interesting. Bragging rights, eh?
