Sega Teases New RPG

Okay everyone, it's time yet again for: Name...That...Game!

We haven't the slightest idea what it could be, but Sega is teasing a new role-playing game at a new site it just launched. Go ahead and check out the teaser website, and see if you can come up with some ideas. All we know is that they'll officially unveil the game on August 20, and there appears to be a female character striking a pose in the background. There's also a mysterious symbol that doesn't give much of anything away, unless you feel like perusing the annals of RPG history to see if that rotating symbol refers to anything in particular. Now, we're already aware of Resonance of Fate, which we think looks plenty exciting, but beyond that...we're at a loss. Sega could be reviving Phantasy Star in some capacity, or perhaps they're looking to bring back the popular strat/RPG series, Shining Force. Dreamcast fans will find another possibility intriguing; that of a sequel to the well-received Skies of Arcadia, which was one of the few RPGs for Sega's ill-fated console. If you have any other theories, let us know.

The RPGs are really starting to flock towards consoles this generation, aren't they? It took a few years for them to get going, but then again, that's normal.

Please let it be a Shining Force game!

Sega's on a roll! They're easily becoming the best rpg powerhouse this generation.

OH GOD, wait, fuck Shining Force, if it's a Skies of Arcadia I'll faint :O

Here's something strange. I looked at the website, it's 12:01 right now where I live, and there is another character in the background. Looks like a guy with a spear. I am assuming that they are going to show a different character every day.

Last time I checked the site(about three minutes ago) it was that girl.

There's nothing in the page source to help, it's a very generic page that pulls in the flash objects and images. Nothing else.

I think Scarecrow may be on to something with Skies of Arcadia. Didn't Eternal Arcadia 2 come out on Wii already?

Anyway the teaser site gave me more of a technological feel that a Shining force game would have, it seems perfectly in line with Skies of Arcadia. Not to mention that Skies of Arcadia was repeatedly mentioned in connection with the team behind Valkyria Chronicles on PS3.

I think Scarecrow is right, it's a Skies of Arcadia sequel.

Random searching on google turned up this rumor report from 2008 about Skies of Arcadia now being on PS3 as well as Wii, it was supposed to at least show up in screen shot form at TGS in 2008.

Skies of Arcadia had a floating pirate ship. That teaser looks like it has the wheel of a ship.

My money's on Skies of Arcadia.

Well obviously SEGA's not gonna go out on another limb with an rpg and hope it hits (valkyria chronicles being good and all was still a big leap for them) and Skies of Arcadia was a big cult hit plus the shadowed characters have the same feel from an artists perspective so my moneys on something in the sky pirate field lol (^_^)

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a Popful Mail or Panzer Dragoon rpg sequel. Those games have untapped potential.

Nice to see all the RPGS finally on the PS3 :) can't wait...

It would be one hell of an awesome if they made a console version of Phantasy Star come back. Maybe they could actually dig those old Master System carts out of the pile and remake the series from the beginning. It definitely could use it. It was a great series.

You just reminded me I have the old sega collection on Dreamcast, I should try to play the only Phantasy Stars. I'd play the online one but they took those servers down ages ago.

What worries me that it might not be a ship's wheel is that dreamcatcher-esque bunch of strings inside the wheel. No clue what that could mean. The image is back to the girl today.
