MGS4 Fans Pining For Trophies: "You're Being Heard"

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots launched at a time when it wasn't mandatory for PlayStation 3 games to include Trophies. But that doesn't mean they'll never show up.

Granted, it has been well over a year since MGS4 graced store shelves, and although many other developers have gone back and added Trophies to their older games, it didn't seem as if Konami would do the same. Given the length of time, many fans have already given up hope. Well, according to Examiner.com, Kojima Productions has indeed heard the request of MGS4 lovers everywhere and have responded in their latest podcast:

"Just to address one issue that we’ve been getting a lot of comments about. And this is, of course, about trophies.

I just wanna tell everybody out there right now that your voices are being heard and that we’re not ignoring you. We hear everything that you are saying. It’s just that we can’t say anything just yet.

But as soon as we have something to say, we will announce it. So, if we can just ask everyone to just be patient, we will give you an answer. But right now we can’t say anything. So we just ask for everyone’s understanding with that and just ask for everybody to remain patient and we’ll let you know."

So basically, Sony's philosophy of "we don't announce anything until there's something to announce" has rubbed off. Essentially, statements like these are typically thinly veiled confirmations, so we're just going to assume that Trophies will indeed be coming for MGS4, although we have no further details at this time. In the meantime, we'll keep our eyes and ears peeled...

You didn't need trophies to play MGS1-MGS3 did you?

It shouldn't be the sole reason to play the game again.

That's the only reason why I haven't dusted off my copy of MGS4 and run through it again. For the fear it will get trophies. They have to know that patching this for trophies is a smart and logical business move. For one, it will get people to play it again, maybe even get some people to buy it for trophies alone. Two, some of those people playing will inevitably play some MGO, some of which will get the expansion packs. Everyone wins!....Especially trohy whores like myself :)

lol, i'm in the second act on my first playthrough... too bad the trophies didn't come out about a month ago, lol...

ohh well, i'm sure i'll dust this game off in a few months if they do release trophies because, i'm having a ton of fun playing it right now... i can see myself playing this again for sure... and maybe i'll check out MGO someday...

Its annoying, Ive already done everything on this game even the Big Boss Camo, so if they release this i'll have to go through that hell again :|, but i do agree a game of this high standard should have trophies.

Trophies aren't needed but would be a nice addition. I replay this game now again without Trophies. Trophies would just give me another reason to play this master piece for the 100th time.

Talk about a weird announcement. Why would they say this only to say "no trophies for mgs4" at some later date? As you point out, it's not likely. So why not just say "hey everyone, they're coming! Please be patient."

If this turns out to be the MGS4:supersubstanciation edition is getting trophies and not the original then i'll be ticked.

Yeah. If a couple of trophy/achievement whores get round to finding out what this epic game is all about then trophies are a great addition.

Trust me I've got a mate devoid of taste that will only play games for the baubles-he spent a two week period getting all the gongs for Lips on the 360! It was only afterwards that he got told you can get most of them just by playing static into the mic! Point is it might even lead to idiots like this getting a gaming education!

Why is MGS4 trophies even a discussion? Who did Sony let one of their "Flagship" games go so long without trophies?

I'm a Sony/PS3 guy, but this is something that can't be defended.

Well it was third party so it wasn't Sony's decision even if trophies were out when it released (which I don't remember)

I originally thought achievements or trophies were just gimmicks added to the gameplay.

Now, I'm interested in getting trophies as it does reward you for trying to utilize the game to it's fullest instead of just railroading through the game like most people do nowadays. Some trophies require such skill like shooting a Genado at the head while he's jumping in RE5.

The good thing about it is that it stores the data in the servers so you can always go back and view all the cool things that you did. For MGS4, I will absolutely re-play that game again just for the trophies.

Shooting the Majini in the head while he jumps happened by accedent for me. I thinks it's pretty easy to obtain with the shotgun.

You guys are lucky, I still haven't got that trophy yet. Although there are times where a Majini did jump and I performed a headshot (no trophy). Another case is when the trible Majini performed a super-jump to which I headshot perfectly with my Magnum (still no trophy).

What's wrong with trophies? -Some- are hard to obtain and show a bit of skill, like Wipeout HD trophies.

It's been awhile now, so I really don't think trophies are necessary anymore... I mean for me personally, I've already finished MGS 4 five times. I've done anything that could possibly done so I think even they come out with trohpies, I probably won't play the game again... but you never know.

i still cant believe it dident have trophies.
this was the biggest release for PS3, most people who bought a ps3 bought it for this or FF this has to be the best no second best game on ps3.
if they patched it in late june to late july i would of bought the game for a 3rd time, but since wolfenstiene batman AA and operation flash point are coming out they will do me.
