Yamauchi: Unlock Car In GT PSP, Get It In GT5 On PS3
You know, we at PSXE always knew we were excited for anything Gran Turismo. But the more we hear, the more our hearts pound and our palms sweat; will Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo PSP be the best combined racing experience in video game history?
When GT PSP was first announced, we learned that there should be over 800 cars in the handheld iteration, and it stands to reason there may be some that won't be featured in GT5 for the PS3 (and vicey versey). When asked in a recent JVN interview about if - and how - the two games might communicate with one another, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi responded as follows:
"If [the user] unlocks a car in Gran Turismo PSP, it will also be available in Gran Turismo 5." (Source- GTPlanet.net)
Obviously, the translation could be a little loose and we're missing something vital but on the surface, the good news seems clear. Furthermore, we've learned that Polyphony has ramped up the car sharing and trade aspects of GT PSP (a new feature); likely for the sake of added realism. For example, if you trade a car, it's gone and there are some cars that simply can't be traded at all. This ought to make sharing plenty interesting, don't you think? Yamauchi also didn't rule out the possibility that GT PSP may have hindered the progress of GT5 just a bit; when asked about this, he said:
"I will not contradict you, because all versions of GT are developed within the studio Polyphony Digital. If a person works on an item, it necessarily prevents him from doing anything else. So yes, there is some truth in what you say."
Well, considering what we'll get, we can live with that. And like we just got finished saying, everything new we turn up about the new and improved GT franchise has us literally shaking with anticipating. ...okay, maybe not "literally," but I think my pulse is a little faster even now...

Was gonna get it anyway
But this is even better!
This could also mean that GT5 will at least have some 200+ cars, which is a lot considering the quality and realism and the fact that it's the first GT this generation.
Would be freaking amazing if they actually have close to 700 lmfao :D
Anyway I will so unlock all the Vipers (favorite cars since the first GT)

Thank you Polyphony, now can we just apply this to Square Enix?

its kinda pointless unlocking a car in GT PSP than being able to use it in GT5 months later.
no one would care it has to be recent, if there trying to suck in sales (which they clearly are by having both games cross compatible) they need to release within 3 weeks apart.
otherwise its pointless.

Also, I think when I get GT5, I'm going to start completely from scratch, even if cars or money transfer from prologue...I love working my way up from almost nothing...
To me it just adds to the realism of being an up and coming racer....buying a cheap used ride, win a few races, get some mods, and win some cars. Oh how I love GT.

I wonder if the 'all-inclusive' version of GT, will have all of the unlockable cars from GT5M, for those who don't own PSP's? And then the regular version, for those who do? Anyway, food for thought. Definite buy. Either way.

Wouldn't it be fun if one of the links between the two games was for the PSP version to act as a side mirror or rear view mirror for the full game? Remember that the F1 championship game was originally to include this as an option, but for some reason didn't.
All it would take is the appropriate code, they can link wirelessly. just place the PS3 in a charging cradle or other stand to the left or right of your screen and voila, instant rear view. I gotta say, that would be awesome, and I have a feeling it would sell a lof of GT for PSP and PSPs to play it on. Heck I'd consider a second PSP if the game could give me two mirrors that way.
In any event, the PSP GT is a pre-order certainty for me, and the PS3 version is too.
