GamesCom 2009: Sony Conference Live Updates
Update 11: Closing speech? No PSP price-drop? No GT5 release date? Awww, come on.
Update 10: PS3 Slim looks identical to the leaked images from May. Also, standard PS3s get a price-cut, as well.
Update 9: $299! 120GB HDD! 32% smaller, 36% lighter, 34% less power consumption.
Update 8: YES! PS3 SLIM ANNOUNCED! OFFICIAL! First week of September! WOO!
Update 7: Kaz talking about the enormous expansion of gaming scene in Europe. Stop stalling! Give me the goods! I NEED IT!
Update 6: KIZ HIRAI IS ON STAGE!!!
Update 5: Great, nothing on the Sony Motion Controller at GamesCom. Probably being held off for TGS...why? TGS is so dead lately.
Update 4: Even though I was late to this, we didn't miss much. This has been very boring so far. Just give us the guns already, Sony.
Update 3: Lots of emotion pegged for Heavy Rain.
Update 2: New Uncharted 2 trailer was shown. PSP lineup for remainder of 2009 looks amazing. Now, Heavy Rain is being demonstrated...
Update: Crap! I'm here. I'm here. Okay, Sony just said register your PSP Go! with 10 days of owning it, and you will get Gran Turismo PSP for free. -Arnold
So they've finally kicked off Sony's press conference at GamesCom 2009, and of course, they've started with the relevant statistics.
SCEE president and CEO Andrew House has informed us that the PS2 has topped 140 million units sold worldwide, while the PSP has passed 50 million and the PS3 currently sits at 23.7 million. Worldwide PSN registrants has now hit 27 million, and there have been 7.5 million total PlayStation Home downloads thus far. They have also announced a few new spaces for the ever-expanding Home, including a new SingStar area and an all-new cinema space for Audi. Yes, Audi. Not sure exactly what they'll be showing in there, but you can probably guess; this is only another branching development in Home, and House says it has "infinite possibilities." Oh, and Sony has finally revealed that PSN voucher cards will finally be available in the European region, which should come as good news to all our buddies across the pond. These cards will come in 20 and 50 Euro denominations, and as more good news for the Euro gamers, they'll be receiving VidZone (although there was no mention of the US). VidZone offers music videos and other video media through the PSN and it sounds damn sweet.
The conference rolls on and we'll be bringing you the news minute-on-the-minute...
