Looks good, but looks cheaper than the glorious current big brother. I would of liked it to be piano black, gathers dust I know but its reason for giving it a good rubbing.
Do I get one, well I have an excuse now, as I can give my current PS3 to my brother.
Price? They never seem to give a UK price anymore, I've seen it for pre-order for £250, available sep 4th. The conversion for US $299 to UK is £183. So in the US you are getting it very cheap. I think we in the UK should be paying £200, its only fair?
Kinda put me off getting it now seeing that conversion rate.

Don't worry, the "screw port" is now on the bottom of the machine and the HDD slides out of the front of the PS3.

@ nonsuch

The firmware on the "slim" apparently doesn't contain the option to Install Other OS. I guess the farmers will have to stock up on current PS3s.

I'm happy with the price drop now the user base would catch fast the 360 one so not put titles like Splinter Cell on the ps3 and ignore that big user base would be stupid .

but I'm really sad no BC =( so I must buy another PS2 and a old TV to play my dusted ps2 games.

European prices tend to include taxes already (and the taxes are higher).

I think retailers will have to drop the price of the phat an additional $50 to get them moving--

You can still pick up a Phat PS3 that will come bundled with games. Also, you can upgrade the Phat's hard drive.....not sure about that with the Slim. The Phats will fly off the shelves, no problem.

i actually think it looks amazing...

ps1 to psone = same overall shape, smaller size

ps2 to ps2 slim to ps2 slimmer = same overall shape, smaller size

psp to psp 2000 to psp 3000 (minus GO!) = same overall shape, smaller size

ps3 to ps3 slim = same overall shape, smaller size

so IMO mission accomplished for Sony... I've been saying it since day 1, ps3 slim and "Boomerang" controller look absolutely awesome...

There's something about that curved bit next to the disk drive that just looks wrong to me. Also, the buttons look cheap.

It just looks cheap compared to the gorgeous original. Still, it could have been worse.

No MS won't sit around. Actually am liking how their making Sony work hard. The 360 Elite will be dropped in price. We have MS to thank for all this, the PS3 Slim, price cut, all the upcoming PS3 exclusives, everything!

Maybe if our PS3s break down, then we all get the Slim.But for the meantime I have to say this; I'm not hating or bashing the Slim but I must say its just not nice. I'm surprised its the same as the Philippines dealer's own,no change,same font, same everything. Hope sales go up now.

dammit, the only thing i wanted to hear coming out of this conference was backwards compatibility... i already own a PS3 therefor a price drop and a new model means nothing... i don't plan on getting the PSP go either... and more stuff added to home isn't important since i don't even use home... this conference had nothing for me... good thing i wasn't anticipating the news...

now there is indeed a PS3 slim with cheaper price, i will get one when it is on sale during the holiday season for my other computer room, to play it on my 24" sony all-in-one VAIO hdmi screen. and still leave my 80G fat for my main living room ;)

I wish Sony kept that spiderman font, the glossy paint, & the chrome trim. The spiderman font was what inspired the original design! I also wish Sony would make some different colored systems to go with all these different colored controllers that won't stop coming out.

Naw, If the new slim comes with a 120 GB 2.5" SATA, There's got to be a way to change it. I'm pretty sure that's a feature they won't do away with anytime soon. It's just not evident yet where the HDD will be located, but unless the slim is smaller than 2.5"s, you'll be able to swap hard drives.

i've looked at the 360 degrees of pictures (top bottom, all 4 sides) and theres no flap, door, or anything! the only place I see is right underneath the disk drive is a little plastic cuttout peice that clamps 2 the unit with the DVD Bluray HDMI Dolby logos on it... could that be the mystery spot??

If you look at the pics of the front of the SlimBeast3 you will notice that around the logos HDMI,BLU RAY, DOLBY DIGITAL, ect you can see a line around in a rectangle almost as if it's removable. This is where I believe the Hard Drive location has been move to. I'm on my PSP now but as soon as I get to a computer I'll post a link to a hi res pic of the front so you can see what I'm saying.

Two things that I learned that can cause YLOD is dust getting into the system, and overheating. As long as you have it in a cool area and get one of those computer dust cleaners you should be fine.

There's a huge difference between the launch systems and the 40s; mine makes a fair amount of noise (not 360 loud, of course), whereas my dad's is silent, even when the fan is running. Not sure which one you have.

I live in the uk, so I only know the uk price but not the american price. I did research and the price varies. Some source says it costs $199 while the other says $299.

OMG HELLL YEAAAA!!!!! That was the final nail the the xbox coffin. This is freaking EPIC. We all waited and hear it is. soo cheap and the best games for the system still haven't been release, a la GOW3, Uncharted 2, GT5, Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian, Vs 13, ff14 and soooo much more! GOOO SONY it a fu**ing celebration. woot woot!

I don't think it will, but I hope it comes with a game. I think it would be cool if it came with Batman Arkham Asylum, but there were rumors before saying it would come with Madden 10.

1. It doesn't yet exist, so it doesn't cost consumers anything.
2. It is probably costing Sony quite a bit to develop it, but I doubt that's what you meant.
3. When (if?) Sony adds it, it will likely come as part of a firmware update, so it probably won't cost anything, but there's no guarantee that it won't be an add-on widget to the XMB that could be sold.
4. Sony would be able to sell PS2 games on the PSN (and some discs), so they don't need to charge in order to make it profitable.

www Sony's bravia hdtv are not faulty just the best. cost more but like the ps3 is worth every penny. My nephews play all day so I need a new hdtv to play. A 32" is good enough, wish it was bigger. :)

299 euros = current trade £1 = £1 its that crap here so still £300 for a console with a double the size hd of mine 60gb with b/c, this new one has no b/c.

Thanks but no thanks, being slimmer and lighter is not really for me either as my shelf is holding my PS3 and 360 together with my Stereo too. The only other thing is the power consumption.

Oh Wait I have the original PS1 and the original PS2 so I dont think I will get the slimmer PS3, just never bothered with the slimmer consoles for some reason.

What happenes if your one crashes YLOD do they give you a new slim one now or will they refurb the bigger model types ? I'd want my 60gb back cos of the extra ports and slots and things.

Good for new consumers though if they want to get a slim PS3 that is though.

well to be honest, if you already have a PS3 the only benefits are the personalizations and the reduced power consumption. so unless you are loaded, there isn't really much point...

I want to get the Go though... especially when you buy the PSP Go between 1st October and 10th October and register it online, you get Gran Turismo PSP (in digital format) for free. and my birthday is the 2nd :)

erm, cant say i love the looks of this great machine, i loved the old 'playstation 3' sign on the front of the current console, i like the old on/off and eject touch thingys, i dont like the buttony looking things, not at all. i just think they should have changed those 2 things and this would have been the console for me!

Dude that is friggin awesome for me cause my 60GB just died :( But now I only have to save a little more since I have some extra money at the moment. Though I'm not sure if I wanna get the slim or go with the original? Anyway it's good news, it should heat up the competition and hopefully help out Sony.

I am getting one for sure! I think the way it looks doesn't really matter cause you don't look at it when you playing the BEST GAMES! I want a BLUE one though if you can choose colors. The HD is upgradeable through the bottom slide slot. The only thing lost is Linux operating system which to me is no big deal. 1 opertating system is more than enough. We will probably have B/C by the launch of GOD OF WAR 3 by PSN download! I wonder if they're going to do any bundles before the end of the year?!
