Guitar Hero 5 DLC Not Backwards Compatible
It's not surprising to learn that Activision will have some downloadable content ready for the week after Guitar Hero 5's release on the first of September.
But it may be disappointing to find out that such DLC will not be compatible with last year's Guitar Hero: World Tour. The compatibility issue between software and peripherals has always been a complicated one concerning the music franchise, but even if this isn't great news, at least we know the score going in. An Activision representative very specifically stated the situation to 1Up:.
"Guitar Hero 5 downlodable content will be compatible with future Guitar Hero and Band Hero games...however the advancements and innovations made to the franchise do not allow for downloadable content to be backwards compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour."
Now, before you start scoffing, you should realize there really are a few upgrades and enhancements in this year's Guitar Hero iteration. As the article went on to say, such advancements include "band moments, Expert+ drumming, and the new vocal star power." Also, bear in mind that any DLC you've already paid for is compatible with Guitar Hero 5, and you will be able to "export" tracks from World Tour and Smash Hits so you can try 'em out in the latest entry. So basically, the upcoming DLC designed specifically for GH5 will only work with GH5. Clear now?
