Sony Prepping Huge European Ad Campaign For PS3
After last week's GamesCom event, many people will look at Sony and say, "yep, all the pieces are falling into place." But many of those same people will add a disclaimer: "that is, if they can promote the goods correctly!"
Well, we haven't heard details about a major North American push yet but after viewing this announcement, we assume it's on the way. European gamers should soon start seeing a definite media blitz that is focused on the PlayStation 3 and just about anything that has to do with the system, including the recently announced PS3 Slim. Sony plans to launch an £82m pan-European marketing campaign for their console, which should put them in a good position for this year's holiday rush. Oh, and if you're wondering, it seems that the TBWA Agency, which is in charge of the TV ads for this campaign, is doing away with those crazy "esoteric and dark commercials." This is a good sign because SCE hasn't run a significant ad campaign for the PS3 since the system arrived in the region about two years ago. This time, they're really going to show the consumer what they're missing if they don't own a PS3; the Blu-Ray, downloadable TV and film content via the free PSN, online gaming, and of course, the games. Screen Digest predicts that Sony will sell 4.3 million PS3 units in Europe in 2009, which would bring the total to 11.16 million in that region.
You can bet we're going to see the same type of thing here in the US; at least, one would hope so. It has long since been the Achilles Heel for Sony - especially this generation - and it's about time they did something about it.

this is what killed the Gamecube, poor marketing. Thank god the PS3 is superb lol, but seriously, Sony have to improve their pitch in Europe.

Proper advertising is all what Sony needs - after the latest great announcements - to widely promote the black behemoth and push it to the expected selling rate.
If everything moves as planned by SCE, then by the end of the current fiscal year (March 2010), PS3 might sell a total of 32 million units globally.

They need to have ads like THIS:

Okay, minus the profanity, and showing only exclusives, but you get the point. Then they can have those smaller adverts to talk about PS3 features.

I don't know what channels/shows you all are watching, but I see WAY more ads for Sony products than 360 or Wii commercials. "Chuck" alone was two or three PS3 ads each week guaranteed.
Maybe things are different in Canada than the U.S., but here PS3 ads are plentiful.
I will say that I find it infuriating that Microsoft sells multi-platform games as if they're exclusives (I hate it when Sony does it as well, but that's less often).
Jump in? F**k off.
p.s. They may not sell the product, but those European ads are hilarious. Does anyone know where to find HD versions of the This Is Living ads?

Now how come psxextreme.com doesn't work on the ps3's browser? The ads cover up the article.

It was the first time a new console on TV made people go "wow" and want to buy it.
Here's a new tip for Sony and Polyphony digital. If they start work on GT6 right after GT5 comes out, it might be finished in time for the PS4 launch. Imagine the launch sales of that!!!

im sick of seeing bloody nintendo DSI adds.
honestly ive seen it so many freaking times i could recite the whole add.
surprisingly M$ have backed off allot, and since that pathetic threat of activision dropping sony, all ive seen is activision adds with ps3 at the end of them.
with prototype, transformers 2 and now harry pot head.
if sony market there games 1/10 as good as activision U2 would sell bucket loads.
i wouldent be surprised if we see allot of MW2 adds with PS3 on the back of them too, looks like that threat scared sony and decided to fund some adds for activision to keep them happy.
